i wasn't really interested in it at all but got it anyway since i had some money to spend and was very pleasantly surprised
haven't played enough of skyward sword yet to make a call on that one
anyway... just want to throw Minecraft in here.
But it's been out already. I know technically it is coming "out of Beta" but it originally came out in 2009. So, yeah...it's kinda in a loophole.

Heh, my problem with it was that it dragged. Well that's one of the problems I had with it.
My GOTY is The Witcher 2, no contest

Agreed, I dont understand how it isnt in the first list??
My grouping is: Witcher 2 > Skyrim > World of Tanks
(yes I know most here havent played world of tanks and it may not be your thing, but Im a tank nerd and I play way too much of it to not consider it top 3)

Bastion hands down, doubt itll win because games awards are a joke.

Because the two websites I visited didn't even list it for major releases of 2011.

Deus Ex, hands down. As much as i love Skyrim/The Witcher 2, no other game so far has gripped me in the same manner as DXHR had. The gameplay was spot-on, scoring the right balance between stealth and action, and I loved how you had so much freedom as to how you approach the game itself.
And, no other game this year had made me play it until 6am in the morning when I had a school test at 8am. Epic game.

Uncharted 3 was good but it was exactly the same as 2nd, with less epicness. Some good candidates would be Gears of War 3, Skyrim, etc.
I tried and limit to # of poll options and websites that don't list a game as a major release are getting me some serious flack, lol.

Of the Games i've played I'd say Batman Arkham City. Hands down the best game i've played in years alot of good games like Skyrim , DXHR , Witcher 2 but Arkham City is just so much fun.
|
witcher 2..? really? It got so immensely boring when you get to the city that I just couldn't handle playing it anymore... graphic is amazing and amazing atmostphere too but i don't know... story wasn't that catchy and interesting.

Arkham city, Skywar Sword and Skyrim. If any other games be choosed I'd be really surprised.
|
Skyrim hands down....I played most of the games on the list. Dark souls, Witcher 2, Deus Ex I would vote for runners up but I already spent more hours on Skyrim than all of them and still playing. People will hate cause its the new and popular thing but the poll speaks for itself really.

Skyrim wins it for me. I am super looking forward to SWTOR after playing the beta, but there's very little else.
I will never vote for Call of Modern Battlefield Duty Warfare, because they're the same game. For the last 3 years.

No one mentioned Amnesia the dark decent yet? It should be one of the contenders. Minecraft was also officially released a couple of weeks ago.
Off those I've played:
Best action fps: Battlefield 3 (Deus ex: HR) Best RPG: Skyrim (Witcher 2, Bastion) Best puzzle: Portal 2 (orcs must die) Best indie: Amnesia the dark decent (Minecraft, Bastion) Best strategy: WH40k Dawn of war 2 (Tropico 4) Game of the year: Skyrim

i didnt play many games this year, but i think Dark Souls was a fantastic game

I mentioned it in passing.
It's disqualified because it released in 2010.

Witcher 2 is my GOTY *by far*. Skyrim is good, but it suffers from the same problems previous installments have. Plus, the PC users got screwed, again. I've stopped playing and intend to resume once big mods come out. Deus Ex is the best shooter this year.

IMO I'd have to say Skyrim no other game had me shrugging off work and staying up days on end playing this one damn game... it stole my entire life XD
