edit: disregard as plenty of people had already said this exact same thing

my vote's for skyrim. bastion was also amazing. unfortunately i haven't played a lot of the other games in the polls so my opinion is not likely worth much :p

mario kart 7 gets my vote!
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Actually, I think between our two polls we covered the majority of them.

Put in Witcher 2 into the list and you might have.

Man how could they miss that when even Obama has a copy of the game??

Skyrim by a billion miles. No other game comes close, people are saying portal 2? Are you out of your mind? Portal 2 is pretty fun we get it but I've never seen a more hyped franchise in my life. Hipster Portal, /shudders.

Skyrim should clean this up if there is any hope for PC gaming moving forward.

Except that Skyrim isn't a PC exclusive, nor was it developed primarily for PC. Bethesda said that they planned for the 360 to be the primary system, and the PC is a port of it.

If you want PC gaming to move forward, you'd support Portal and Valve, one of if not the biggest PC developers on the market.

While you're correct it was developed first for 360, the PC version is miles and miles ahead of the console versions. Sure the UI is a bit clunky for a PC interface but that's about it. The game runs better, looks better and feels better on the PC. Once the mods start flowing in after the Skyrim workshop is released through steam the game is going to be even more incredible. And yes, modability and replayability should factor into this decision, no game released this year will end up as customizable, or as deep as Skyrim.

LOL the UI isnt just a "bit" clunky it's complete trash. and the game isn't really that deep the world is just really big lol

I'm really surprised that none of the discussion for next year's GOTY in this thread even mentions Bioshock Infinite.

Anyways, Skyrim wins. Quality of game + lack of anything similar this year + massive sales.

What is really interesting/annoying is how many of these games are sequels. LA Noire gets my vote because it was a new idea, a full game, and not a rehash.

The current sequels in the top games are:
- Elder Scrolls 5
- Battlefield 3
- Dark Souls (Demon Souls 2)
- Portal 2
- LoZ.... 16?
- Deus Ex 2
- Modern Warfare 3
- Uncharted 3
- Batman Arkham City (Asylum 2)
- Gears 3
- Infamous 2
- Witcher 2

Current original IPs:
- Bastion
- LA Noir

I miss the times where new games were actually new.

I diden't play that many new games in 2011..

My pick would either go to Rift or LoZ:SS
If I based it on hours /played, Rift would be my pick(50+ hours on my first session)..

But I haven't finished LoZ:SS yet, so maybe i'll it enjoy more. It is a zelda game afterall, a amazing one.
What is this I don't even

Skyrim/Bastion/Portal 2/Terraria/Limbo

Can't pick one over another though, they all deserve accolades for various reasons.

Lots of other games missing from these polls too, how about Shogun:Total War? Or Dragon Age 2?

Skyrim will win I guess just because it's fresh in peoples mind, good game, but I wouldn't give it goty simply because of it's horrible interface, everything an interface could do wrong, it did wrong.
Portal 2 practically "perfect" as far as games go, although personally I didn't like the reduced difficulty compared to the first game.
Bastion is totally under-rated, best story of any game I've played this year.
Terraria was just fun, plain and simple, everything I ever wanted from a sidescroller when I was young, and that 16-bit feel really took me back to those days.
Limbo just had great atmosphere, best way I can describe it is braid, but turned up to 12.

So yeah, all good games, hard to pick one over another. Played many other games of course, but these just stood out for me by far. Like, in 5 years time I think I will be able to look back and remember these games (and probably LA Noire) and remember them very fondly.

I don't know about City 'pooping' on Asylum. Asylum has better atmosphere & holds up pretty well in other aspects.

I would vote for minecraft if I could - the ongoing updates will allow players to (hopefully) enjoy increasingly complicated and interesting worlds. Also the music is beautifully done

my top 3 would be

1.portal 2
2.dues ex
3.skyrim

i picked portal 2 because even though it was short. i had probably the most fun playing it.

Deus ex had a very intriguing story and love the gameplay.

Not even finished with skyrim so i cant tell much about the game. Its so huge that its hard to finish and i like exploring.

i think many people are voting skyrim not because they think it's the best game of the year, but they think that everyone else thinks it is going to win because they think everyone else thinks it's the game of the year
