Also I still can't believe people are trying to compare Hawken vs. MWO in this thread lol. They are totally different games. It's like trying to compare Left 4 Dead with Day Z or something. The only thing they have in common is that they have zombies and you shoot guns. Same thing with MWO and Hawken. Only thing in common is they have mechs and they are first person. There's literally no other comparison because of how different they are.

I can barely put out any damage every game, only got one kill (and I barely clipped the guy anyway), and the two mechs I own are apparently useless (and the trial mechs overheat like motherfuckers). My team usually loses; and when it wins I feel like I didn't contribute anything. I barely get any credits per game anymore also; went from getting 200k per game to getting 25k... Is there something I can do to improve my efficacy? You ran out of the rookie bonus on credits. When I last played, everything was dictated by your ping. Over 100? You might as well be rolling dice as much as your aim when it came to actually damaging things and ECM was totally pants on retarded back then, don't know how they changed it now. Don't go solo around, patience and moving as team is how you'll start winning.

Although the Hunchback is fucking gooooooood. Hunchback 4SP with 4 med lasers, 2 arty SRM 6 just fucking rips through mechs. Only engage when your heavy buddies and engaged and when you start taking fire then bug out. This damn mech just bursts so hard and has pretty decent heat management. I can still see the backs of mechs before I lay 12 SRMs into it and watch it explode. I also bought a Dragon but that was kinda hard to pilot and my next purchase was gonna be an Awesome but I stopped playing. If you're having trouble, get a brawler (short/medium range + fast, like Hunchback 4SP) and just get in there. All you have to do is engage smartly, poke in, poke out and do as much damage as you can without taking it. Most matches my poor Hunchy either has one or both torso parts blown off. Even with half my weapons destroyed, 2 med lasers and a SRM 6 can still dish out some hurt. Die a little on the inside and don't even download the installer. I'm absolutely sick of all the crazy nickel and diming, and paying for power in the PC gaming industry. Why? It's not even that bad. I never had premium and I bought and fully upgraded at least 5 mechs. Those bonuses aren't really that big of a deal, especially short term. People aren't going to get better weapons than you or anything, it just allows you to unlock shit faster.

I barely even play, and haven't paid a cent for the game, and I have basically everything I want anyway (or could easily attain anything else within a couple days of playing). It's not really that bad. They gotta make money on the game somehow. On a sidenote, I'm looking for new people to play with, since my friends moved onto other games right now and I've been wanting to play again. Anyone want to play sometime, or any groups I could tag along with?

You can save some money by switching out engines and weapons from one mech to another, might not be as efficient as the engine you're saving up for but most likely it's always going to be better than the standard engine/weapons you get.

The champion 'mechs are just as good as any optimized build, and they're free. And, a fully kitted out commando costs like 5 mil, which is like 4-5 games with new player bonus. And it's just as good as any assault. Edit: Also, it's a great game. Very MechWarrior, way more fun than 4. As to the difficulty, yeah, it can be tricky jumping in. I usually have people start out in LRM boats (a Double Heat Sink/Endo-Steel more ammo+HS Catapult C1 is a good starter) or Atlases with everything to have them figure out the mechanics. Then move on to a brawler, like the Hunchback 4SP or a 2xAC/20 Jagermech. But you will pick it up and it's rewarding, like StarCraft or Dark Souls or any other game that seems imposing to beginners. Also, on upgrades: Always get faster engine than stock Always max armor -No exceptions for lights. But for mediums/heavies/assaults, only 3/4 or 1/2 armor on legs is ok -Front/Back ratio should be 2:1 for scouts, 3:1 for most builds, and 4:1 for snipers Always get Double Heat Sinks (DHS) Usually get Endo Steel Almost never get Ferro Fibrous, unless you have everything else you want and need more slots. It doesn't increase your armor cap, just slightly reduces your weight. XL engines vary by 'mech. They are expensive, so get a 300XL and use it for everything that can fit it (swap it around, dont' sell it. only a handful of 'mechs can't take it.) With an XL, you die if you lose a side torso, but the XL is much lighter than the standard. Good Mechs for an XL: Any light: Commando, Jenner, Spider, Raven Faster mediums: Cicada, Trebuchets Big 'mechs with small side torsos: Catapult, Dragon Bad Mechs for an XL: Atlas, Awesome, Stalker (deceptively large side torsos) Build Dependent Mechs: Centurion: SRM focused should get fast XL--note: cannot fit 300 except in CN9-D AC/Laser focused should get fast Standard Cataphract, Jagermech Really better not to go XL, but some builds, like the 2xAC/20 Jager, require it for function. Cataphract 3D with XL and lots of sniping weapons and jump jets is popular now.

Lovin this game! A cicada is not a Brawling mech, its more of a Fast scout, hurrasser mech. Brawling mechs are hunchback,Centurion,Cataphract, highlander 733C, Atlas. In june the next Brawler mech will be out and that will be the Orion a 75 ton heavy mech (being the highest tonnage int he heavy bracket) Which basicly has same hardpoint loadout of the Atlas and runs at 64 KPH with a 300 standard engine. Back in the Day i used to brawl in the Catapult K2 but you need to learn that its biggest weakness is its Big cockpit.

This game gives way less advantages for paying money than comparable games (WoT, War Thunder, etc.). Actually there is almost no advantage other then getting stuff faster. But there is much less grind than in the aforementioned games anyway because there are no tiers you have to climb through. You can buy the biggest mechs right away if you want to. You also dont have to pay any ingame currency for repair and rearm, so that you will always make money. I never spent real money on anything in this game other than more mech bays. That was maybe 10 €, which was clearly worth it for hundreds of hours played. The only thing this game lacks is some kind of ladder. Or at least they show your Elo rating. Because they dont there is a lack of motivation to play on after you have all the mechs you want. The best thing about MWO is that you have so many possibilities to configure your mechs. Results in more versatile gameplay than comparable games.
