I'd assume it'll be something like League of Legends (and HoN) are doing, where you can buy costumes and whatnot. Maybe you can buy maps, different chasis of specific mechs, announcer voices etc.
I clicked this topic because I remember Incontrol saying on some of the podcasts that the Warhound was made because Dustin Browder played Mech warrior 2 weeks before making the Warhound xd
I saw this and registered and was lucky enough to grab a name. From the forums and dev blogs and ISN news flashes this games look like it's trying real hard to get as many if not all the mechwarrior fans together under one roof(with the exception of Mech Assault screw that game).
I am looking forward to this about as much as I can to a point I found my old mechcommander 2 cd sadly, it doesn't seem to want to run properly on my comp.
Mechwarrior 2 was one of my first PC games and I spent a very happy summer with it and three and eventually four. I can only hope this game is as amazing as I hope it will be.

No it's the same game. MechWarrior 5 = MechWarrior Online. They changed the name, this is where development ended up. They were originally planning on going single-player, but changed it to an online twitch F2P when publishing became problematic due to Microsoft trying to stop them from developing on PS3.
The reason the game is coming out so soon in Summer 2012 is because most of the work is done already, supposedly.
I added a note above the video in the OP to clarify this, thanks for bringing it up
SCST they actually arent the same. MW5 is with smithandtinker and MWO is being done by a different developer. you can check out www.mechwarriorleagues.com forums for more info on it.

This is pretty much all wrong. Plus, MWL's not exactly the most reliable source in the world.
S&T are not a game studio. They've licensed the IP from microsoft and are (arguably) one of the driving forces behind games on their pet IPs, but they're not actually working on the game's code. S&T has linked up with a studio called Piranha games (who admittedly haven't done much of note at all thus far) for MW5/MWO.
It's worth noting that Piranha has been involved from the very beginning; the original MW5 trailer was their work. Since that was released, plans for the game changed (largely because they struggled to find a publisher and realised how difficult it is to publish cross-platform as a small studio) and they switched to an F2P game on a slightly different timeline.

i dont follow development of these new MW games because they are usually fail. I just know that trailer was made years ago and for a completely different game and they havent been pitching that trailer as MWO.
Also MWL has the best players left playing MW4:mercs still and if there will ever be any info i need on it it will be there. Also its likely to be the center for leagues once it comes out.
I am so excited about this. I reserved the name Terran :D. I tried flash, and lightning. I hope that it's well made, because mech games such as mechwarrior, and armored core, front mission and ring of red to a lesser extent have always been exciting to me. If this game is all that it can be, it'll be one of my favorite games for a long, long time. I'm looking forward to the TL clan that will inevitably come to be.

Thanks for bringing it up but I think Belisarius pretty much answered for me already. This is the same game, made by Piranha Games (developer). The video belongs to the same developer of MechWarrior Online. Originally, they we're planning on going for a single-player game. However, since that was not possible due to publishing issues they are utilizing all the time and money they put into MechWarrior 5 and instead making MechWarrior Online.
It's from the horses mouth if you read the developer interviews with Piranha's CEO.

If you don't know, don't present information as if you do.
EDIT: and, the MWL propaganda's pretty unnecessary as well. MWL didn't have the best teams when the title wasn't king of the desert; I can't say now as I don't play anymore. Nobody can say where the good players will go when they come back. Plus, with a persistent world format, we don't even know if we'll need leagues.
Starting to cringe seeing more and more games go F2P. Even if they try to avoid pay to win, they always manage to make the game a pain in the ass to play without spending lots of cash on it =/.

Read the F2P article. Sounds like they are avoiding Play-To-Win like the plague. Only time will tell, however.
