Also I cant even see how this will be better then living legends, especially if they throw microtransactions in.

Most start this way but you can never be sure about the future. A clear direct announced like: No microtransition we ever sell will get you an ingame competition advantage. like "Path of Exile" did would be nice. Than they are committed and know they get alot of shit on the day they try to break it. This will get you much more players at the start, because many a scared that they play for a month build up a char only to see that you can buy all this now. EDIT: i really enjoyed the singleplayer in the old mechwarriers. Hoped for a sp game come out one day again. Perhaps they have CO-OP modus. that would be awesome.

They pretty much do say that, for the record. As a card-carrying member of one of the most crusty, hardcore, battletech-based school of thought, I'm surprised at how impressed I am by Piranha's take on this. The only thing I'm scared about is how influential the XP system will be. And they've also pretty much ruled out co-op.

PC Gamer article: Ekman also promises that while players will be able to buy items with real money, nobody can buy anything that will confer a tactical advantage. “Anything that would affect or give you a tactical advantage, you can’t purchase with real cash. You have to earn that by playing the game,” he says. pretty much word for word.

I didn't want to open up a new thread but I thought this game could fit here since it's a similar concept.

I'm not sure I'd dared hope, but there's been media reveals and playtests going on all week at GDC. Not a whole lot of meat, but the game is unquestionably present and playable in alpha. Game sites like Escapist, IGN and games.on.net are starting to put out coverage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EDIT: the heck with website coverage. Interview with gameplay footage: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-2012-mechwarrior-online/727870 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/9466-GDC-2012-MechWarrior-Online It plays like MechWarrior 4 and looks like Crysis 2. I'm kind of tempted to end the preview right there because, if that description doesn't make Piranha Games' upcoming resurrection of the franchise a "must play," nothing else I say is likely to matter. On the off chance that you're still not convinced, maybe I should also mention it marks the series return to the PC as well as its entry into the free-to-play market. More sites: + Show Spoiler + http://games.on.net/article/15087/Live_from_GDC_MechWarrior_Online_Preview and http://au.pc.ign.com/objects/018/018954.html For anyone more interested, the developer blogs over at MWO's own website have a surprising amount of info, especially the most recent one. http://mwomercs.com/news/2012/03/155-dev-blog-5-mech-warfare-part-i Welcome fans to Mech Warfare month. This is the month you’ve all been waiting for where we finally spill the beans on the BattleMech combat systems and experience. With a combination of simulation controls and specialize terrain modeling, Mech combat is about to take on a whole new movement mechanic and means of acquiring targets. As discussed in previous Dev Blogs, there are various systems in place that will affect your personal gameplay style but they will all lead back to the core of BattleMech combat. The core of BattleMech combat encapsulates 3 base principles, Mech Operations, Target Acquisition and Engagement... I'm not a big fan of the way they've handled their PR up until now. It felt like vaporware, all promises and hype and big announcements for stuff that turned out to totally not be worth promising, hyping or announcing. Now, though, it looks like the game might actually be what a whole lot of people have been waiting ten years for, and I'm suddenly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

But I'm SO HAPPY Mech is coming back! The dev team seems to really love the universe and so far I'm happy with every decision they've made. P.S. Fully customizable MechLab CONFIRMED!

I've always liked the universe more when the Clans have arrived, featuring my favourite Vulture Mech, but still this is going to be huge. I hope they make a great game, i really hope. You're in luck! The game is set in 3049, and the devs have said they're keeping a 1:1 time ratio with canon. The clan invasion happens in 3050!
