They changed the lfr loot system so everyone gets an independant and hidden roll for loot which may give you an item, gold or nothing, and you can't trade it. It's still easy mode, but it's designed for casual play with complete strangers of any skill level.

Someone was talking about vanilla PvP. So I dug out the old Francis and Mantrid PvP videos. Oh, the memories..... I also have some videos of the first 5v5's put together by Vhell. It's funny watching how unrefined the strategy and coordination was at the time.

Definitely great memories. Vanilla WoW PvP was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game. Otherguy, Saerdna, Vurtne, and Francis (who showed frost was viable when everyone was fire) immediately come to mind when I think about great vanilla PvP movies.

Nurfed's 5v5 vids were unrefined compared what PvP would later become, but at the time they were the height of competitive PvP. Vhell's vids were excellent, so were Uro's.

I just wish they would improve pvp.

If they could just reintroduce consistent factions, and make them all relevant across expansions instead of leaving them to rot at the base of whatever game they were introduced (Current AV situation). These factions give flair and funk to the battleground settings by bringing their different themes to bear on the environment of the map. One faction could even have multiple maps. After all war is a complex set of engagements across multiple locations. It would be a shame to miss out.

Repeatable pvp quests handed out at the starting areas from lore based people that disappear once the game starts, and get these factions gear-vendors to help with gearing new players. By shifting some of the natural daily gain away from the honor you would gain anyhow you would discourage botting, and maybe even help alleviate loosing streaks.

Chief rewards "Could" be conquest points and reputation rewards in similar fashion to how MOP dailies work right now, except they would be PVP focused, and compared with asking in battleground chat or following the zerg these dailies could even help guide players to objectives they should be doing (such as protecting a bunker).

It could be cool if these factions had vendors and tiered gear for every tenth level. Thus giving new or veteran players a different path of progression from whatever level bgs would pop up in, but it would also be giving people who put in some effort a fighting chance against heirloomed players with naturally brought gear that would then be superior due to their pvp power and resillience(This would only be possible if the gear provided was extensive enough).

They should also separate the battlegrounds, yet unite them under the banners of 10 / 15, and 25 man.
This is important, as each battleground could then be providing a different feeling in similar fashion to how in PVE: Normals, heroic and raids do not have the same level of expectation put into them.

10man could be the fastest paced, with individual classes bringing their might to bear and turnarounds would be hard.
15man would be moderately paced bgs that while capable of lasting for a small while could at least give you repeated chances at turning things back into your factions favour. (2500 point AB).

And above them all would be 25 man pvp. The game within a game. or how one could go about improving Alterac Valley.

By removing 25 Man BGs from the rest you can add expectations to how large scale they can be and how long time a player can count on spending inside of it.

You could even call them PVP Scenarios, but instead of it being a 3 man optional feature like the pve one that takes about half the time of a heroic. You can extend and expand on them to forge epic maps that hold the possibility within to last for hours. These places could have expanded dailies to rival Klaxxi, or golden lotus, and they could have the different factions strut their stuff in the forms of npc reinforcements, group wide buffs, constructible terrain, (arcane bridge, arcane tower, arcane wall, etc.). To make what would essentially be a gamemode within a game.

Note that most of this can also be possible if you separated things in game modes too. Battlegrounds should matter. They should be a priority, and right now more players have come around to the idea that they should just bot them.

This would seriously improve the bottom line of players, and help players with starting out. Because currently you can only really do this from 70-80 with the brutal glad gear being so cheap.

Edit: If they did all of this then maybe the pvp side might not be called an afterthought.

When they make AV last for days again is when it'll be improved.
Friend once started a game of AV, went afk on friday, came back Saturday afternoon and the same game was going on. now thats what it should be!

Yeah I've been a part of some of those games too. Kind of made the 4-5 hour queue times worth it.

They'd have a hard time making AV go back to that even if they wanted to though, even if they removed resources and put all tower/bunker elites back in again, just because people would still just run past everything and go for as quick of a win as possible.
They'd have to do all of the above and give drek'thar/vanndar a buff that increases damage/health by 10%, and starts at like 1000 stacks, which decreases by one each time a player on the other team dies, or something like that.

You underestimate the amount of NPCs the old AV used to have, just running past all the things did not work, you died. If there was anyone defending, you died even faster. One frost mage who rooted your raid between towers was sure to get a few kills out of it just because the archers and roaming NPCs were actually a genuine threat especially when upgraded.

Running past the things started when they removed most of the NPCs and nerfed the rest to a point where you indeed could simply ignore them.

I don't miss old WoW. Rogues were OP as shit... before they normalized weapon speed damage. BARMAN Shanker anyone? Stunlock the shit out of people... cheap shot-> kidney shot -> blind -> restealth... repeat until you die. Back before there were pvp trinkets.

It got worse when they gave Warriors mace spec stun and all their retarded Crowd control BS. Paladins never died... original paladins with their divine shield / blessing of protection (when they were on separate cooldowns... holy shit >,<)

I played Hunter (Rank13) and both Warrior (Rank11) and Rouge (Rank11) in Vanilla and have to disagree. Warrior > Rogue > Caster.
Vanilla WoW was just not balanced for 1v1. WoW was never ultra-competetive, PvP can never be 100% fair. But WoW was so much fun back in the days. From Sorrow Hill to Tarren's Mill into Month of AV/WSG Farming. I even remember doing open PvP with my MS-Warri and my Holy-Pally infront of AQ. We "two-manned" complete 10-man AQ-Grps, Warrior with support (Blessing of Freedom/Dispell) was just unstoppable!
I only played Random in the Vanilla-Bgs and I have no idea how many WSGs I won by myself with my hunter. If there was a somewhat good Drood or Pally in the WSG, we won already. In Vanilla you could show your Skill and Experience. If I would play now again, I would just get roflstomped by People with Heirlooms at Lowlevel and by Casuals who farmed 1000 BGs for their Epic-PvP-Gear with 32432423 Resilience.

Vanilla and TBC was just the most fun I had ever in a Videogame and its so sad what the MMO Genre has become now.

We dominated Warrior/Paladin in season 1-2 with Affliction Warlock/Shadowpriest. They just couldn't handle all of the uncleansable DoTs and if we ever LoS'd the warrior from the healer, they were just dead.

Yeah well, Affli/Shadow was the complete anti team to all Warrior teams in TBC... of course, Druid/Warrior could win, but Druid could always win in 2v2, so whatever. We played Shaman Warrior in S2 and S3, and Affli/Shadow was basically unwinable, I still remember the hate

Got Warlock/SPriest to 2k with Blue Gear. My teammate still had greens :o
Fear, Dot,dot, dot, dot. My team-mate priest was dead, but didn't matter when, cause the dots still ticked.
More OP was only Season 4 after the CasualKing Patch with Ret-Pally being able to cast Wings+InvulShield at the same time. Together with a Whirlwind-Warrior it was just hilarious. :D

All thats left are memories.

Just reactivated my account and really love what they've done with talents. I actually get some pretty cool things to choose from as druid and it's not all cookie cutter. Love it!
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

Yeah, I'm finding the talent decisions to actually require some thought.... and even checking wow websites don't give you a clear answer which is the best choice.

I carry a stack of Tomes of the Clear Mind on me for raiding because the talents I choose for each fight vary so differently sometimes. Glyphs, too.

Yeah man, I remember seeing videos of those people. I never had all those trinkets but it was crazy to see how easily people got gibbed in PvP vids. Elemental shaman could be pretty nasty too with TOEP + ZHC. I remember this ioneye guy would tear through people with the 30% zerking BG buff.

Now after the 10 Day Pandaland Trial is finally available, I tried it with my Holly Pally and got bored after ~60min. I've "healed" (aka AFK'ed) the two Level85 dungeons and done ~4 Quests in Pandaland.
The only thing I got from this sessions was that they removed Auras WTF?!?!?!?! Was it too hard for the casuals to use Auras or what?
Thats exactly why WoW is so terrible, because Blizz removed all the fun stuff with no reason at all.
