James Neal baby! Looking much better playing with Malkin than he did last year playing with Staal.

Ales Hemsky has the physical talent Crosby does (although lacks the hockey IQ), and Gretzky has said all kinds of ridiculously good things about him as well ("He is a much better passer than I was... I think he is one of the slickest players that has ever played the game.").

That being said, Gretzky throws out praise like PC gamers throw out console hate... At this point it might be Lindros 5 or 6.

EDIT: Speak of the devil, Hemsky left in the first period with a shoulder injury tonight.

Aaron Asham scored the knockout of the year in the second week of the season:

His celebration A+ as well

nice to see him stick tap after murdering that dude's poor face

Puck Daddy linked their two hockeyfights.com profiles which was pretty funny to compare. Good for Beagle sticking up for his teammate, but that was a brutal brutal mismatch.

Not sure if the Canucks realize it, but this is the regular season. You know, the time where you get points in order to go to the playoffs. Play some defense!

Good Game Wings! Sad I didn't get to see it but 2 shutouts in 3 games GJ please keep it up. While Detroit was high in offense last year they really slid defensively. One thing about them is they tend to ease up in games, I hope Babcock as found a way to get them to play a game for the full 60.

I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't even watch the last 6 minutes because the way the wings were playing, I knew there was no way they were giving up the lead. Howard had to make a handful of nice stops on D. Sedin, and at the end of 2nd a puck trickled through him but didn't cross the line before the horn. Other than that though, the canucks didn't bring much.

That pisses me right off. That is just a lack of respect for a fellow player.

A more skilled guy that has the balls to stand up and fight you, then you mock him after you win? Regardless of whether he is injured or not, as much as I like fighting in hockey, that crap right there removes the fight from the game and turns it into a side-show. Not only does that piss off the other team (effectively negating all the momentum your fight garnered your team in the first place) but it is totally unnecessary because your team and the fans are already fired right up because you just KTFO'd a guy.

For example, when MacIntyre knocked out Ivanens, the crowd was roaring. Within ten minutes the Oilers scored three goals and carried play for the rest of the game. Not only that, but you know when you are a fighter that in any given moment that could be you getting caught with a punch and put to sleep... you don't need to give every other fighter in the league some extra oomph in their punches.

In addition, it just looks bad on Hockey as a game. The contest between the Pens and the Caps is all over the headlines, but I have no idea what the score or the final was. All anyone is reporting is this fight, this fight and Asham's crap will spread like wildfire through the internet.

The NHL is a hockey league, not a fight club on ice. Complete and utter side-show.

Asham afterwards in the dressing room...

"It's unfortunate the way the fight ended. I obviously want to win but I don't want to go out there and hurt anyone. My gestures after it was done … I was into the game. It was uncalled for, classless on my part. I think that those guys over there know that I'm not that kind of guy to be going off.
"But it was a big game. I wanted to get my bench going. Classless move on my part."

He seemed pretty disappointed in himself after the game.

it was a rough ending, i dont think he would have wanted it to end that way, obviously it ends up giving the other team pretty fired up. i was glad to see the caps win it but id love for them to finally finish a game in regular time...can't wait to see have a full strength penguins team play the caps....and lose

Jesus! Hemsky is made out of paper-mache. I've seen wet paper-towel hold up better then that guys shoulder.

I say hes out 25 games :/...

Oilers now 0-14-3 in Minnesota. Last win was in 07.

Totally disagree. It would be one thing if he hurt the dude, he knew and still did that. no way he knows that the guy's face is mashed in like that. all he knows is that he dropped him good. And he said and did all the right stuff after when he realized he didn't just end the fight.

furthermore, virtually all fighters have celebrated in some fashion, most on more than one occasion, whether it's whipping their arms around like Carcillo, doing the quiet thing like Talbot, or just raising your arms up a few times, telling the home crowd to get up after they smack around someone. It's pretty common place. Can't really be sitting there, cherry picking which taunts are ok and which aren't over something like that. And as pissed as the other team was, look at Asham's bench. I'm sure the effect isn't mitigated by that.

The bottom line is that his taunt after wouldn't even be a discussion of the dude didn't pull his tooth out. That was not Dr. Recchi out there, he had no idea and did everything right after. Unfortunate the dude got hurt, but that's hockey

WTF is Beagle doing knocking an oppponent's helmet off his head while he is behind that face shield?
and then getting into a fight with the visor still on?

When u wear a visor you are making a statement that you do not engage in extra-curricular activities.

Beagle should not have face washed and de-helmetted Asham before the fight began because he is wearing a visor. By wearing the visor he is admitting he is not willing to absorb the negative consequences of activities that fall outside the games rules.

Then keeping the visor on during the fight... whatever man. If you wear a visor you have to back off early in the pushing and shoving contests and often "take 1 of the team".

If you do not do this you are seen by other players as a total idiot.

its clear Beagle can't fight... what is he doing trying to drop right hand bombs onto the side of the guys helmet any way? i guess he never learned in junior that he can't fight so he had to be taught a lesson in the big leagues.

meh while I agree with that stuff about visor wearing idiots running around like toughguys, it is possible to flip the lid, even in the heat of the moment. I dislike when peple fight with it, but I don't think wearing one is a sign of being a pussy so much... Bryan Berard, Malholtra, Stevie Y's eye shot... maybe a visor wouldn't 100% save them, but that shit helps.

But yeah, I agree, if you're gonna fight, don't be a pussy—take it off. Ryan Callahan has one, plays tough and generally when he gets into fights, he drops his lid. That's how it should be if you're gonna play like that.

Wasn't there talk at asome point about tear away visors for shit like that?? It probably wasn't practical

Yeah that's what I thought too, but I think the damage here was more punch and the visor helped that fall. Kypreos' was baaaad

I don't know how I can respond to this without seeming like a massive homer...but, here goes nothing. I don't see a single thing wrong with what Asham did. It might have been a little douchey, but whatever. Beagle picked the fight. Beagle was throwing blows before Asham even drops his shit. The Caps announcers were flipping out and wondering why Asham didn't get a game misconduct for instigating. Are you kidding me? I don't even see how the 'taunting' thing was any different from celebrating when you score or anything. You have a small victory, you celebrate. I think it's great. I don't want to see players running around stone faced and not giving a shit, it's not entertaining. As long as it doesn't get to Trevor Gilles level of bullshit, I don't have a single issue with it. Asham didn't cheap shot him or any of that shit. It's a hockey fight and Beagle got worked.
