Hey , I would really like to have a CS:GO beta key , I love counter strike and played it over 3000 hours http://steamcommunity.com/id/dafnay/home but even if i signed up the first day I'm still waiting for a key... The only thing I can offer is a Tera account which still has 1 week of gametime and a +50lvl charachter on most popular pvp uk server , so if anyone is interested contact me... edit : Or if you prefer I can trade it for a sc2 account since I've 2 of them and with HoTs coming I wont buy the addon for every account...

Edit: wrong thread. oops.

Thats a new type of ban! :D

So I sort of overlooked this cause I was excited to get a beta key, but I actually got two of them so I have an extra one that I could give out. I'd like to give it to someone who's had a good amount of experience with CS:S and/or 1.6 though, so PM me if you're interested and fit the bill as it were. (edit: it's out :D)

OK, so now that I've had about 17hrs to play around GO here are some of the things that have stood out right now. Please understand that I have played very little CS over the years, so my comments are hardly as informed as some seasoned veterans of the series for a few items.
- Sound localization is bad, as it ignores pretty much all surface absorption properties (propagation of waves/surface reflectivity/reverberance does not behave properly). Tracking footsteps, bomb placements, and other ambient noises like gun fire is very poorly implemented at this stage. VERY poorly. As a musician I am hyper sensitive to this stuff but it's really bad at this juncture.
- Headshots seem a little too easy to hit based on my play time. Smaller hitbox maybe?
- Jumping into the game automatically lowers windows volume settings. I've been listening to NASL or Pandora and all of a sudden my web browser volume consistently drops to about %13 once CS:GO starts. This is annoying.
- Hostages are like concrete, they do not move when following you. I've been in firefights where I want to jump or move out of the way and the hostages are basically walls that I smash into (and then die bc I didn't move where I wanted to). They need some ai to tell them to move out of the way when you collide with them.
- SMG's seem less useful as weapons in general. Maybe it's the new spray patterns but I am not liking them terribly much.
- AWP...well it's the awp...I dislike that the awp is a 1 shot kill, makes me feel like it is a skill-less gun but iirc it's always been this way right? (ok ok, /endrant)
- Flashbangs are suuuper long. I don't like it.
- Bullet paths are very indeterminate to the player. I'm not saying that they are random but it is very difficult to see where you are shooting and the mapping of the spray pattern is not explicit to us. This results in trying to adjust our aim difficult.
- Does the movement still feel a little swimmy? maybe I'm used to that from CSS?
- Higher up machine gun fire distorts the audio and are quite unpleasant to listen to when spraying, or when some idiot is spraying next to you.
- They need to clean up the pathing on maps, I've gotten stuck on walls or props (railings, boxes, walls) a more than a few times which is a little frustrating.
- I've had a few bullets go through walls and kill opponents where that probably shouldn't have happened.

Sound is being fixed, nothing to do with your "hyper" sensitivity due to being a "musician".
Jumping in game lowers your volume? That's something conflicting on your PC, never heard of that one before.
SMG's are less useful, that's the point. AWP is a one shot kill, and should never change, welcome to CS.
Flashbangs are slightly long, I believe they are adjusting them.
Spray patterns are constantly being changed / updated at the moment.
As for killing through walls, I would check your interp values.

I had the same annoying thing with lowering the volume when a game starts. You need to change a windows setting to fix it. This Link explains how to fix it.

I've sunk around 200+ hours into ESEA pugs in this game. It's in a "decent" state for what it is: a beta. From a competitive viewpoint, it's playable, but still has a ways to go to grip out the 1.6 community from their elitist foxholes. (speaking as one of those people)
Yes, sound is bad, but honestly after playing as long as I did, I got used to it. I was able to spot people based on sound accurately and I was no longer looking the opposite direction, as I did the first week of playing. It will be fixed though, it's a common issue and gripe among the community. Funny how I got used to it though, I don't even notice it anymore. *Although I do feel superhuman when playing 1.6 or Source though*
Headshots do feel easy, but I can't say much as a 1.6 player, as it feels the same as it does in Source. Aiming is just a lot easier, with toned down recoil on bursts/tapping but punishing spray patterns.
SMGs? Amazing after winning a pistol round, 900 dollar a kill with shotgun/SMG concretes your avalanche lead until they hit buy round, in which you amassed like 9000 dollars in the bank. Broken money system.
AWP? Really strong, insanely strong. It's also expensive with a 50$ kill reward. Kind of makes sense.
Flashbangs? Yes, really strong. You only have one. One strong flashbang vs. Two medium flashbangs? Makes sense.
Spraying is bad, I've gotten used to spraying with a lot of things, there's issues with registry when opponents are crouching though. *Still better to just burst people down*
I can't comment on hostages as well.. I don't put any value in hostage maps.
Overall, I hate the money system. There are imbalances in the game that exist within the MAG7, P90. Most of the other issues go away once you get used to the game and stop playing it like its a clone of its predecessors.

Not sure where to post this but does anyone still play CS 1.6? I recently dl'd it and am finding a good WC3 mod server to play on
|
I still can't find a beta key for this... If anyone wants to trade a key for some dota 2 items I'm down =D

I really really hope this game turns good, I was playing since CS beta and left sometime in 1.6. Was VERY fun, but I felt I had to customize so much stuff, Hz on my screen, resolution etc. Hope it doesn't become super advanced to tweak CS towards a competive level, although some internet tweaking is understandable.
A question, how do the maps feel? Is it like CoD series, where there are tons of ways to hide (almost making you invicible)? I feel CS is not suppose to be real life realistic at all for it to be enjoyed. I did enjoy CoD 4 though, so I guess I can be flexible, but CS was much better (nostalgia is a lie?).

Haven't played that much but some of the maps seem way to dark for me and its kinda difficult to spot opponents in train for example.

The game is awful , a total disgrace to the counter strike title and players , it will fail way more than css and even cscz.
|
AWP is the ultimate skill gun because using it means you trust yourself to hit every shot, since you usually only get one or two attempts before you're dead.

I don't think it's as bad as Source was. Obviously it's nowhere near as good as 1.6 though.

CSGO is a console version of source , nothing else , sad but true.

The hitboxes are WORSE then Source. I swear its amazingly bad.

I really wanted to like this game, but all I can say is that it just doesn't feel as "fun" as 1.6 did... I can't put my finger on the reason.
|
Oh no :s This is sad news for me indeed, as I was really looking forward too a new era of CS.
I just dont understand making videogames these days, are they incapable of finding out WHAT made the previous successor so good and keep it in that direction? Its like they find something good, and do the opposite. Maybe the customerbase they are trying to nail, are indeed the opposite of us. Who wants to make a game that lives on for 10 years

As someone who hasn't really played much CS before, I just can't kill anybody because it seems everybody playing CS has been playing for years. I generally go about 1-6 then leave the game. I really want to be able to enjoy the game and get into it, but the learning curve is just shitting on me and I'm not getting better at all. It's hard to get better when you get headshot as soon as you see anybody. Any advice CS pros? If you have CS: Source or 1.6, play on some deathmatch servers for a bit to learn the guns and improve your aim. Deathmatch servers give you more of a chance to play than regular servers because they have instant respawn, so they are really good for learning the game. I think arms race would be a good alternative if you don't have css or 1.6, but you only get 1 kill per gun in that so you can't practice the important guns like the m4, ak, and deagle.
They have DM servers for CS:GO as well. Here's the IP for an NA DM server I use, 64.94.101.58:27015
