As someone who hasn't really played much CS before, I just can't kill anybody because it seems everybody playing CS has been playing for years. I generally go about 1-6 then leave the game. I really want to be able to enjoy the game and get into it, but the learning curve is just shitting on me and I'm not getting better at all. It's hard to get better when you get headshot as soon as you see anybody. Any advice CS pros? Play against bots for now, and practice your aim. I was a fairly decent CS 1.6 / source player (cal-main) and working on being able to strafe shot, and aiming for 1-2 bullet headshots was a big part of practice. The other aspect is knowing how to play different parts of the map. If you are familiar enough with in game situations, you can be somewhat pre-prepared for enemies. Being able to have your crosshair at head height, in the right spot as someone comes out or around a corner will help you tremendously.

Like, I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to play 1.6, if they've never played FPS extensively or CS before, just because the community is so hard. It's kind of like telling someone "Oh you like RTS? Go play on Iccup Brood War" Even the bad players will mostly have years of experience on you. What the other posted was basically true, it's like any getting when trying to get better, you need a good mindset. I think most importantly in CS, you need to find good people to play with so it's more fun.

like: Matchmaking in game voice maps aren't cluttered like in source centered player names flashes dislike: ak feels awful models are hunched over I cant tell where my bullets are going when I spray guns are huge and dont point at crosshair crosshair is tiny and if I make it big then it still has the same center space size it's not 1.6, so I guess I was destined to not like it. 1.6 just needed a graphical update and some bugfixes, like what Valve is doing with DotA 2, IMO.

There are issues with this game at first glance, but research and patience solves a lot of them. Spraying is awful at the moment, but a strong offset is how accurate/deadly tapping and bursting is. CVARS to fix the weapon placement, to mimic CSS and 1.6, also removes bobbing: viewmodel_fov "65" viewmodel_offset_x "2" viewmodel_offset_y "2" viewmodel_offset_z "-2" cl_viewmodel_shift_left_amt "0" cl_viewmodel_shift_right_amt "0" cl_bob_lower_amt "0" cl_bobamt_lat "0" cl_bobamt_vert "0" cl_bobcycle "2" Happy Crosshair Time: cl_fixedcrosshairgap "5" I also fix the hud scaling: hud_scaling "1"

The difference is that Valve announced DotA 2 as a DotA update, but CS:GO as a new CS game, so it's not their intention to release an updated 1.6. They took a really long time to start listenning to 1.6 player's feedback and still, they are trying to make the game a mix of 1.6 and Source so they can attract both player basis. It's sad, but I guess that's the way that eSports is going right now. Games are picked by big companies because they are popular, not because they are hard or have a high skill ceiling.

(not exactly begging for a beta key. I'm fine playing my CS:S. Just feel like this game is extremely underexposed even for a closed beta)

Lets make a deal, I'm very new to the CS genre, I'll give you a key if you teach me on voice chat some of the basics. I'm about to go to work, so I'll respond when I get home tonight if you say yes.

If you have CS: Source or 1.6, play on some deathmatch servers for a bit to learn the guns and improve your aim. Deathmatch servers give you more of a chance to play than regular servers because they have instant respawn, so they are really good for learning the game. I think arms race would be a good alternative if you don't have css or 1.6, but you only get 1 kill per gun in that so you can't practice the important guns like the m4, ak, and deagle.
