The only reliable way to get power charges is to use Power Siphon which requires a wand. Otherwise, you'd need to hope for a particular unique item drop which is very unlikely.

Hoping the combat gets a lot better but right now that's the biggest weakness in the game for me. Still seems like a better game than Diablo 3 but not quite better than TL2 but I might change my opinion if it picks up in later levels. Also, no complete skill respec?! Da fuq!

You don't really need complete respecs unless you want to play a completely different kind character, in which case it makes more sense to re-roll. As long as you take at least 50% defensive passives, you should be fine. Combat does get absolutely better when you get your build and gear together. I always link this video when people say combat in PoE feels too slow: + Show Spoiler +

I'm curious for those who have played it for a long time -- how does it stack up to torchlight 2 and diablo 3 overall? Is it a better game?

I like a lot of the features of the game, like the town/party system, being able to grab people's loot after it is timed out (i think that timer needs to be a lot longer though), and a few other things like socketing skills. I do think that (from my level 1-10 experience so far) the game is really slow and sluggish though. I don't really like the combat so far, I felt in D3 and Torchlight 2 the combat was more exciting early on. The 'skill' tree also seems disappointing, I wish it less about increasing stats slowly and more about gimmicky abilities every few levels. Hoping the combat gets a lot better but right now that's the biggest weakness in the game for me. The combat definitely doesn't pick up until you have fleshed out your skill/support gems to your liking. The progression of playstyle is definitely based mostly on what skill/support gems and keystone passives you choose and then to a lesser extent your other passive skill points. I think they've done a good job of balancing general stat passives that may not make an immediate impact but help shape your character to be strong at what you want him to be strong at, high impact stat passives that you notice immediately but maybe aren't as exciting, and keystone passives that can dramatically affect your playstyle, gear, and skill choices. The build of the week video that the guy ^ linked is a great example of this, and I would recommend that series in general as good examples of the depth of playstyles in this game. Some of the older videos are probably out-of-date and not completely relevant, but you can still glean some good ideas from them.

Extending from this, I bet 10 bucks that no matter which bandit I help, he will backstab me after I kill the other two. Such is the pattern in this game world.

The total amount of blue items dropping just seems very large compared to the number of scrolls you get :S You have to get used to mostly not identifying items unless you can potentially use them or if you have extra Wisdom scrolls lying around. You can trade unidentified items to the vendors just the same as identified ones. If you don't ID absolutely every magic item that drops, you'll have more than enough Wisdom scrolls to go around.
