That's simply a fanboy excuse. Just because they do other things right doesn't make this not wrong. You can't condone bad business practices - ever. If they want $20 for their skins they should charge $20 and be honest with the customer. Not this shady way.
Would you be fine with a supermarket that doesn't give back change? I mean, it's optional, right? Nobody has to buy their stuff, right? There's a reason there are laws against this in the normal world.

I do agree but you should probably take this to their forum in the suggestion section. They are always listening to the community and I am sure if enough people complain they will either change some of the prices or give additional payment options. Anyone who reads the PoE forum regularly will tell you the same. It has been less then a day since the new shop has been available and the game is not even fully released. Give them a break.

Diablo 2 is a terribly boring game, but that's once you've at least gotten a character or two to beat the game on nightmare (or hell). I couldn't see leaving after act 2.

Defeatist stance. Even more so since the makers of HoN, LoL, etc. don't pride themselves in being white knights of the gaming community. By the way Dota 2 doesn't have that kind of stuff afaik. If you want to purchase something for $2 you can as far as I'm aware just buy $2 in store money.

I understand the complaint but we can't do anything about the price on items in the item mall go to the PoE forums and try there. But as already stated most micro-transaction games do this as above stated LoL, and HoN are great examples. I don't agree with it personally but I also never purchase anything on these games.

Quick question:
Can you change where your passive skill tree points are allocated after you place them? I'm wondering, because I like to make up my own builds in games rather than just doing some cookie-cutter build to start, but if I can't replace points later, I'll have to weigh that against potentially playing a character and then hitting a wall when I get to the point where I either can't survive or do enough damage. Will this be a problem?
So I guess, to split it up:
Can you replace points after you've placed them, or do you just have to make another character to try different builds? Can you still be effective playing the game if you haven't maximized your build and have something sub-optimal instead, or will you hit a wall where you can't continue?

What I want isn't even being discussed here. You missed the point. This is about the fact that they try to pull psychological shenanigans to make the customer pay more than he wants to. It's dishonest.
That being said I just wanted to bring this problem to everyones attention and replied to some answers. I don't want to clutter this thread so we should probably not keep going (I'll post something on the support forums later when I get home from work).

You can respec some points per play through. With orbs of regret you can theoretically respec all but that would be insanely expensive. Dont worry about your build too much. You will have Problems with weak builds in the late game. But i guess almost every build can beat the game atleast once.
One note : dont try to build super glass cannons... You need some defense ;-)

Bring up any game by Valve when it comes to "free-to-play" isn't really relevant. Their business model basically comes to bringing more people into steam. The game itself doesn't actually have to pay for itself (relative to other companies).
