If he runs 5 aura's it doesn't seem wasted to me? ![]() he runs them mostly for his minions though, and the buff effect nodes only affects buffs on your character. It's mostly for the Discipline and Purity what results in a quite big buff for myself. | ||

Like, what if you find awesome swords? or is it because there are awesome axe uniques? Just curious. I'm aware that there are skill-tree nodes that give you axe-specific bonuses, but don't those exist for swords and maces as well? | ||

Like, I get why you would have claw-specific nodes because claws are class-specific so you can "specialize" in them, but I've never really understood the idea behind Axe/Sword/Mace specific stuff, because anybody can use those... ![]() | ||

Swords, rapiers and axes are essentially the same with a little difference in accuracy and damage. You have a lot of possibilities for building a character of your choosing. Ranger in this game is not the easiest character to start with since it is easy to create a crappy character with very low chance at normal Vaal even. Marauders are easier to build powerful and dual axes is a fine build to use since cleave is a fine starting aoe. | ||

As for Dual Axe Marauder, I must say that while I like the style, it is actually pretty bad. The reason is pretty simple: Axes have low critical chance, so you want to use Resolute Technique, but most axe passives are heavy on accuracy, which is wasted. If you don't take Resolute Technique, you can get maybe 90% to hit, and 15% crit chance if you commit heavily, which barely makes up for simply having 100% to hit. Then, there's the question of skills. Dual Axe uses cleave + dual strike, which requires a lot of Dex. If you go two handed axes instead, you get Sweep + Heavy Strike, requiring Strength that you do have. But then, if you start planning a build, you realize that none of the Axe passives are worth it. So, you can pick any 2h weapon, but you have access to 7 really good mace passives; might as well pick those, go 2h maces, and get Ground Slam and Glacial Hammer as a bonus. You end up with something like This. I don't think Axes can ever be optimal right now. Swords or Maces are always better, and the small base damage difference doesn't make up for terrible passives. | ||

It was really sluggish, felt unresponsive and bleh. Game design PoE is fucking sweet, game play wise it leaves a lot to be desired. Sounds like you played a marauder and was having dex problems. That was actually my first impression of melee as well, until I played a melee ranger and realized I needed dex on my marauder for some sorely needed accuracy. Running around with dual strike and flicker strike I realized melee was in fact very responsive actually. I still think melee has survivability issues, but we'll see what OB brings. | ||
