It's Lycia and Caterina at the end of the video. I could see them updating syndicate a bit, especially since we already know they're going to be itemizing a bunch of things this league, but I don't know what they'd do to Sanctum. Maybe those two just became BFFs due to their shared love of spelunking.

Affliction is not staying core, correct? I'm unfamiliar with what that means traditionally - does that mean charms etc will be ripped from the game entirely, or just that it'll become a part of the Atlas tree and like abyss etc where you only encounter it if you intend to?

If the latter I'm curious how it'll be implemented. Obviously every build will still want either charms or tinctures, because charms currently don't cost you anything and are just more stats. Not using them would be like not using an inventory slot.

Usually it means the content won't be accessible any longer and you can't generate any items which belong to the league, with the exception of Uniques, which might get added to certain drop pools. Already generated items will usually be transfered to Standard together with the league characters.

Ah good, so we just have to 'worry about' getting a well rolled It That Was Taken for some builds, and not having to grab 4x 10% spell suppression charms for every build.

Historically, very little carries over to the very next league. Sometimes the uniques get re-homed, like how trial of the ancestor uniques were added to the global drop pool, but not always. In some cases the uniques don't come back or come back several leagues later. Most recently, Hinekora's Lock (currency) and omens also stayed around, which was a bit unexpected.

Down the road (usually a couple leagues after), GGG reviews that league's content and decides if and how to move it to the core game. Sanctum coming back as a tome drop containing a full run (rather than banking 1 room per map like in the league) is an example of that. If they do bring back the wildwood in the future, it'd probably be greatly nerfed and work similarly to Delirium Mirrors with how it has a low chance to spawn each map and there are ways to force it onto maps. Given how broken its effect on drops were, I would expect them to let it die.

In terms of transferring to standard, most things usually stay around and become legacy items. Typically all equipped items will persist, but sometimes the uniques will be changed down the road. Sometimes your item won't change unless you Divine Orb it, sometimes all items are affected. It's a bit hit-or-miss. For Affliction, ripping a hardcore character to standard currently deletes all affliction ascendancy classes from your character and I believe also deletes charms (as they're unusuable w/o the ascendancy). I expect that will be true for characters migrated to standard at the end of this league.

GGG has made the mistake of bringing things back too quickly in the past and regretting it, so nowadays they tend to take a more measured approach to if and when things come back.

Roger. Thanks for clarification.

I didn't play around with it much, but I know tinctures were build-enabling for some builds, so I'll kind of lament them going missing in the next season. They at least had an opportunity cost of a flask slot, which made it -something-, and as much fun as it was playing around with charms and loot explosions from wildwood, I'll be okay with something different next league.

I think this'll be the first time I'll ever actually play back-to-back leagues. I normally play one then sit out the next five xD

(E- also zero mention of the dead body mechanic is kinda intentional)

Catarina, Lycia and the Abyssal Lichs - wonder what kind of necromantic shenanigans are in store (is that Cadiro speaking in the trailer)?

I really liked all the lore / voice acting etc around the Wildwood, but that doesn't mean it'll return (thinking of all the Synthesis lore that's gone) ... can't imagine Scourge/Sentinel/Crucible/Lake of Kalandra coming back, either. Didn't play enough TotA to know if that'll come back.

After taking a break, in that pre-league reveal/patch notes "daydreaming about potential starters" and trawling poe.ninja etc for things I haven't played and their SSF viability ... Maw of Mischief Elementalist? Corrupting Cry Jugg/Champion? Boneshatter of Carnage mace stun Jugg? Shield Crush Slayer? Dual Strike of Ambidexterity something or other (Frostbreath + trauma as actual build, Cameria's Avarice for the memes)?

TOTA feels like it'll come back in some capacity. Silver coins were already a pretty good mechanic for engaging with it and could easily just become a bit more rare but last for an entire tournament. The main issue to solve is progression since the ranking system would be awful in the core game if it wasn't extremely accelerated, but at that point I'd rather it just not exist. The solution would probably just be making it something that only drops in 80+ zones and just being a set difficulty. Option two would be a couple different tiers of coins (e.g. bronze silver gold) the correspond to a difficulty matching white/yellow/red maps. Hopefully they pick a scaling more along the lines of ranking 600, not 2000. If it's 2k level then it might as well not exist for how unenjoyable it'll be.

Tattoos could also come back in some form. There are lots of things they could do if they wanted to nerf them a bit, like further limiting the number you can use, removing some of the most broken ones (e.g. more proj), etc. Tattoos' effect on builds was the most interesting thing they've done since Sentinel, so I hope to see them again in some form.

tattoos and tota in general were some of my favorite content. it was really nice fixing stuff like shock immunity, or a few stat points, with a tattoo. I would be fine if they heavily nerf / limit tattoos as long as they keep the multi reward nature of the tournament and the build flexibility

yea the scaling should, at most, go to 1000 imho. preferrably 600-800, and feel free to balance the rewards so its less rewarding than mapping or other content, considering how it is cheesable and low investment. its just a fun change of pace I would like back in the game

I didn't really play much affliction - is it something that people would like to see back? or is it mainly the rewards (e.g. charms, wisps) that people liked. I could see it be adapted as an Atlas Memory tbh

The actual mechanics of Affliction? Nah. The Wildwood feels super undercooked - essentially it was exploring a shrouded map with a limited amount of distance you could travel, and once you knew what you might find in maps it wasn't that interesting to actually run. It quickly turned in to just getting as many wisps as you could from a map (which was, more or less, RNG) because wisps would provide your actual map with a whole bunch of juice, eventually leading to the currency explosion screenshots I'm sure everyone saw. If you didn't want wisps or to juice your map, you'd just ignore the mechanic entirely.

It felt undercooked because there were three different colours of wisps, and at least amongst my friends group we never got to the point of there being any meaningful difference between the colours. It was "Yo I got 9.5k wisps!" not "Yo I got 5k blue wisps!". It just turned into "Juice your maps, try optimize how many wisps you get, hope for good RNG with lots of wisps, repeat.". You don't even care what you find in the wildwood unless it is 1) The King of the Mists bossfight or 2) something that gives wisps.

Not a lot of depth or exploration or interest there. Very one-dimensional mechanic.

As for charms, tinctures, and corpses, I think tinctures have a place in the main game with some tweaks. They were build-enabling in some cases (Like "All Damage can poison" allowing elemental poison dot builds) or interesting QoL and generally just a welcome alternative to flasks. Charms were only +stats without any opportunity cost, so I could live without them, and corpses were awkward to use and maintain, at least according to the few people I played with who even tried to use them.

Tinctures were fun, feels like the easiest to fit into the game. Being Attack only (and OP for bows) has some downsides tho. Would it be a problem if there were Spell tinctures? or at least something for shield attack skills would be nice

It That Was Taken would probably be another fun chase item, though IDK if it's too flexible. could be annoying if every build wants one tho... it feels alright with Watcher's eye but you can't add too many of these items or builds become like a checklist

A bunch of trade QoL is coming this league, nice to see that they are still incrementally upgrading the QoL, partly in response to outside competition xD

I'm not really sure why they felt compelled to make them attack only in the first place. Warlock ended up as the "spell" option, but was so hyper-niche that you just went Primalist even before you had good charms. Maybe it'd end up being extra strong for builds that use both attacks and spells, but that's mostly just COC these days and the attack portion is just a 1dps enabler.

I'd be down for them returning without the attack-only restriction.

Strongbox Minimap icons, Uber Elder fragment swapping, no more invitations and Anarchy scarabs? SSF eating good, just wish we could Horizon Orb Conqueror/Elder Guardian/Synthesis maps.

What's the fastest way to get a Duelist to and through normal lab these days? Spectral Throw with a decent 2H and the 2H mastery for more damage against rares and uniques?

I'm happy with most of the changes, especially a lot of the atlas/mapping stuff. Should be a lot nicer to choose content with the deletion of sextants.

Not happy about more mana cost nerfs and my league plan of storm brand being turbonerfed. Thinking about trying to build around that new flask charge belt, but not sure what I want to do yet. There's obviously some good synergy with pathfinder or ascendant here. It doesn't feel like it should be costly to get one early league.

Essence acquisition seem nerfed. Notes read that shrieking is the highest tier available even in reds, the node for duplicating shrieking is gone, and the other node only adds one of the "highest tier," which seems to be shrieking. It sounds like deafening can no longer drop naturally.
