Game mechanics wise, everything except the actual combat mechanics in this game are much better (better from a standpoint of what is generally accepted as better. E.g. the skill tree is objectively much deeper, and ability combinbation possibilities are much deeper, but you can't objectively say that it's better since some people may prefer more simple skill systems) than the respective aspects of both D3/TL2. Graphics wise, it depends on what you like. I found the art direction of D3 to be a lot better (I think the monster design and animation quality in PoE is especially terrible), but then again they have hords of artists working on that stuff for 5+ years, while PoE probably has one guy for models/animation, one guy for textures, one guy for effects and misc stuff (I think the total team are just 19 people). Sound wise the game isn't very good, but you can't expect much with that kind of low budget.
I definately like the graphics and art style better in PoE. Didn't care for the cartoony style of D3 (and TL2) and prefer dark, gritty, gothic style for this type of game. I like the sound and music, but it gets monotonous after a while- just needs to be more (liked TL2 music the best).

Magic Find does exist yes. I don't think it plays quite as large a role as it did in D2 but thats just from an initial impression of playing, I'm no expert.

I was curious how it works with group dynamics. The thing is, the game is more focused about the insane grind to max level. That's unlike Diablo where max level is easy and the gear grind is the biggest drive in the game. So, in the level grind, it's most important to get the most amount of maps and the highest level maps in order to level faster. That's more important than getting the sweetest rares.
If an organized team really wanted to drive for max level, I wonder if it's best to have a couple people in "magic find" gear to help out the group while the "racer" is getting funneled. It would slow down your clear speed, however, and magic find doesn't help you get more maps, so it's a mixed bag whether or not it's actually useful.
I'm rambling a bit but the TL;DR is that as I understand it:
- Magic find gets you more/better gear - Magic find does not get you more/better maps - PoE is more about leveling than the gear treadmill - Magic find gear may result in slower map clear times and therefore less XP/hr - It might make sense to have some magic find characters in a group for better gearing, but not to the point it hurts your clear times.

there is item find and magic find mods on gear
item find increases item drop rate
magic find increase the chance of an item being magic, rare, unique
if farming, a decent amount to have on a character is 100+ for both mods.
however, the most important mod is actually the item find roll on a map. maps are end-game content that drop randomly and players will want a constant pool of them and higher level versions of them. the item find roll on a map can be rerolled by players in attempts to increase the item find roll.
the item find roll mod on a map is important because it can affect the drop chance for maps. the item find or magic find mod on gear has no effect on map drop rate. higher item find rolls on a map generally indicate a higher level of difficulty to run the map.
also, when grouping, I think item drop rate increases by 50% (does not effect map drop rate) for each additional person that is in group, so if you can constantly do map runs in groups, then doing runs with item find gear isn't as important
people generally consider 1% of item find to be more valuable than 1% of magic find. don't know by how much though

Item quantity is significantly better because you get currency drops. Rarity is fine if you're trying to get a bunch of rares, but quantity heavily outweighs rarity if you're just going for mass amount of drops.

damn and i thought i wouldn't have to worry about magic find in this game.

personally i love magic find type stats

Do not worry about magic find until towards the end game. Once you hit Merciless and can sustain in a farming area such as Felshrine, that's when you need to worry about item quantity/rarity. Focus on survival first.

If its not specific then yea it applies to everything.

Is there a Path of Exile channel on TL's ts3 server?
|
ok, followup question just took a passive that says "25% increase critical strike chance for spells"
does this mean that the 8% on my wand now will make my total crit chance be 10%?
and if thats the case then where can i view my total critical strike chance in my character sheet or wherever?
and slarder, thanks

Increase means it is additive, more means it is multiplicative.

more questions lol how do igo back to town easily, i don't see a way at this point im considering just dying so it puts me back in town. is there any punishment for doing that?
edit: ok i found a waypoint

ok so then i should have 33% critical strike chance?
i don't understand.. isn't that the most op passive ever then?

I feel that your dps endgame is always really high even without good gear. So you just want to focus on defense(resistances, life, ES, armour and evasion) and MF. And try to avoid as much deaths as possible because it will set you back alot in the high levels.

You can use a town portal scroll. In normal you get no xp penalty, but in cruel and higher you do.

Post your build Travis, and if you haven't done so use the skill calculator to plan out a build (with 60-70 points invested to be realistic). I'll help you theorycraft around.
* - I'm aware of that, but open the skill calculator and start experimenting. Fun and planning is required since you get only a few respec points - rest comes out of your hard earned cash.
