I got two of these on actually decent rings.

what are the good options? back in the day it was reave or cyclone... and then sunder... or frost blades? what about double strike, does it have enough AOE?
thanks in advance!
edit: guess i have 2nd question. are there other reliable sources of impale? dread banner? anything else?
edit2: final question. is it better to go for fortitude, or first to strike / last to fall ?
Lancing Steel and Shattering steel are projectiles. So GP and LP would make more so you can hit more. LS only impale on first hit so chain and piercing doesn't work. Maybe totems would work.
SS can impale more with hit and does more damage with travel so it seems obvious to have it pierce target.
Other sources would trigger the impale damage already so a cast on crit would trigger the imapale.
One thought is that impale isn't a melee attack jut attack, has anyone tried it with bow build?

Finally swapped from my mega-budget Tabula + crappy Vagan weapon CoC setup into Cospri's + Lycosidae, and moved my Frostbolt out of my CoC setup into Cospri's.
Damn it feels good. I see why people are hype about these builds.
Somebody was selling a corrupted (but not bricked) Cospri's for 1 ex (others were at ~1.7 ex), so got a steal on that. Maybe they didn't know you could socket craft corrupted items, or didn't realize the 3-socket recipe was coming?
Also there was somebody trying to sell a Resolute Technique corrupted Cospri's for a few days, didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I did gluttony flicker jugg in Incursion, using the self-damage to feed myself regen via Unbreakable. It was pretty good.

Well since it's a movement ability it should trigger Gluttony right? or maybe it doesnt since it's triggered. shit. That was the idea anyway, to feed a lot of cwdt. I've gotten so sidetracked though, currently have a build that does bodyswap damage with RF active for +dmg and slayer overleech (yes its shit).

Most "when you do X" mods in PoE don't work when X is triggered (e.g., Lightpoacher doesn't cast Spirit Burst when your CwDT setup goes off). I'm not positive this applies to Gluttony, though, worth testing.
I 100% support developing overly complicated shit builds, though, they're the best thing about PoE.

Why do syndicate members deal more damage and have more health than each boss at the end of the map? It's fucking stupid, a fortification in a hard t16 map shouldn't be harder than uber elder.

During leveling I had more problems vs some fortress encounters than vs act 10 Kitava :D

My friend is trying to get me into POE but I'm looking for some help. Right now I'm level 12 or something, but he told me to save all of my passive skills until I've picked a build. Any suggestions for a beginner-friendly build for a ranger? Something that isn't crazy difficult to get items for, to get me started.
I checked the POE forums but I couldn't make heads or tails of which build would be good for someone who has no idea what they are doing

Oof, you'd be better off at least putting them in things that look ok and just making a whole new character later once you have a better feel for things lol. Those early passives can help a lot.
Rangers are good at bow stuff. Frost Blades is also solid. Sunder is good on almost any character. No specific recommendations on a build guide though, but make sure whichever you look into that you focus more on one that has a solid leveling section/recommendations. It can be daunting and misleading to look at a build designed for level 80+ but they never really tell you that as a new player and you just try to match their passive tree and gem set up even though they are probably very suboptimal for leveling.

Most builds focus on only 1-2 skills in the endgame, but can be adjusted slightly to change those few abilities among 6-10 different. One thing that is similar a lot is life. so picking passive nodes with %increase life is a good bet. While leveling, it can be hard to get enough raw ability stats (str/dex/int) to use and level up your gems, so you can take good nodes for that (for example, as a ranger its hard to get strength and intellect). Similar with resistances.
Most of all, try to pick up a lot of different skills and try them out, see what you like. As a ranger, you can't pick up all strength and intelligence gems until later in the game though.

An exception I found was Enki's Arc Witch build, it has a very detailed leveling section you can follow all the way to end game. You also don't need any expensive gear.
In my experience, good ranger builds tend to require some investments, probably not the most beginner friendly class.

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I'll just go with Duka's idea of not really worrying about where I put my passives to until I get to know the game better, then make a second character. Basically, % life, and raw stats can help me as I'm leveling and try out lots of skills to see what I like. Thanks again!

The damage they do with additional damage map mods is completely batshit, and they're also really damn tanky. If I valued leveling more (I'm on SC), I'd definitely skip them.

I mean, its basically the same thing every league. Incursion stuff was more difficult then the maps they appeared in. Same with Bestiary. Same with Abyss.
And yes there is way to much going on on screen, can't see what is happening, especially Fortifications.
