Ye i did write it feels smoother but that was generalization, and due to lack of play before patch i could not pinpoint it. Before i had small fps drops in various places, etc. For all it is it could be simple fix so that my current graphics drivers work better. Or it may be a placebo effect dunno.

A lot of small/medium changes to the game and a large amount of sounds has been added since last beta-weekend, so it is all about perception. Act 3 and PvP will come out this year so have patience and have mercy!

In theory the next large content patch should be the last big patch before open beta. Maybe they cut it in two and let the PvP-patch get some further feedback and balancing before opening the show, but they are getting there pretty fast with the agressive patching they are doing at the moment.

Also: For all of us using 32 bit windows, the patch 0.9.11m was a significant improvement. The patch improved responsiveness of the mouse while holding down a button and made a change to how textures were treated. It has helped my computer a ton in avoiding toasting (someone measured a 6 degree drop in temperature over GPU and my improvement has been even more after cleaning my fan!), the load has improved noticeably between areas and the game is more responsive! It should also fix some crashes, but I never had those anyway.

finally got around to playing the early game again and it does seem a bit more polished and fluid than I remember

It is just disappointing that it was slated for August and now my open beta email for this weekend said "in a few months."

Well would you rather they rush to release an incomplete game or keep it in beta til they feel it is ready? Look what happened with D3 being released at a barely beta state, they lost over 70% of players in under 3 weeks of release and this is a f2p so they have to keep players around to get paid.

This isn't even the release of the game though. Maybe I'm just not well versed in these matters, but going from closed to open beta doesn't seem like a significant change. They probably need some additional infrastructure for the wave of players that will try the game out, but other than that...

Open beta, is their "release" as it's f2p, there will be no more wipes after the OB starts. It's just considered "open beta" still because the game is still an on going project currently planned for ~10years of new content patches.

There still is no attack animation canceling(something I'm against in games), but it feels a lot smoother than it did

This is an issue that is mentioned a lot of times, which is inderstandable

You have to remember some things though:

- At medium-high levels your attack, cast and movement speed are a lot higher, which makes it feel more smooth, try to watch some high level footage on youtube for example to see the difference.

- GGG has said that they will add custom animations in their cosmetic cash shop, since this is a free to play game without pay to win they will have to monetize a lot of extra fluff. Every type of attack has only 1 animation, which can easily become monotonous. People often complain about the bland look of items too, which comes down to the same issue.

- GGG is gradually refining the combat, it looks a LOT better than early alpha, and even a lot better than a couple of months ago. As long as they get a steady income, they will keep refining the game for years.

- It might never feel as polished as Diablo 3, a New-Zealand based indy studio vs the mighty Activision Blizzard consequence that is hard to overcome. Path of Exile currently has no physics engine for example, but they might add that in a future update. However, I sort of like the raw feel of the combat and especially Heavy Strike with a big two-handed weapon gives you a nice blut force trauma effect

When the game gets to Open Beta, maybe you could give it another try, at that stage GGG is ready to show the game to the big audience.

I tried this game yesterday and I actually had fun playing it, something I never really did with Diablo 3 or any other games lately. It's so great to have a real skill tree again! You can actually *gasp* customize your character! This consequence-free bullshit of D3 can go suck it, frankly. Items in this game seem to have other stats than +dmg also, which is great. I was happy to play a summoner again, but it was a bit too active for me (skeletons decay after 20 seconds and I don't think you can increase that time), and there are no ranged summons. I still miss Necromancer.

Anyway, it's nice to see some developers actually try to make fun games. Playing Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 and all that crap has bored me close to death. This might just revive me!

I arrived a bit late to the party and only got a couple of hours of play, but I must say that so far I am really impressed. The only way it's going to be bad is if they mess up the microtransaction part, but I doubt they want shoot themselves in the foot in the long run. Wish I had a bit more time to see how higher level characters behave (only got to lvl 7 or 8), but so far the game looks great.

I've always thought ARPG's should be built around the characters having extremely high (relative to where they are now) base movement speed and attack speed simply because it makes it funner and it looks and feels more fluid. Imagine if in D3 your average 2H has like 1.2 APS while the faster weapons were around 1.8 APS, making the average 1H like 1.5 APS (about as high as it gets as is). On top of these you could use your IAS to make it even better. Also if base movement speed was 15-20% higher I think these games would be immensely more fun

I often opt to not use 2H in ARPG's even if it would be statistically better for me as I hate being so sluggish.

I managed to get to level 40 with my witch during the Public stress test weekend and i absolutely love it so far. Gotta resist buying the Beta acces as i need to get busy, can't play POE all the time this month.
This really seems like the real Diablo 3 and it is one of a few games that are not dumbed down so braindead cry kids can play it. I've watched a few developer interviews and the approach they are at is the right one to get the game we all (ARPG fans) expect. I just hope they won't ease up under the crying kid's pressure and the game stays on decent difficulty even when playing normal. My hat is down to the devs as they are doing great job with such a small resource.
Brood War is the best RTS that has ever been created.

If you have the money I'd suggest buying beta access anyway just to support the devs.

TBH everyone who will manage to dive deeper will sooner or later need those stash tabs anyway
