like i said, nothing to do with how its coded whatsoever. don't try to undersell the overall AOE nerf by comparing it to their basically removal of the reave gem from the game. the math is there plain and simple and will be apparent when you actually play the game with AOE skills thats not called RF or static strike.

any link that uses increased aoe gem got a huge nerf
meanwhile projectiles are fine
ggg, nerfing build diversity patch after patch
i wouldn't mind if melee skills got a damage buff to compensate for the loss of aoe but as of right now there is zero incentive to go melee unless it's BF and that's getting nerfed too

Keep in mind people tend to picture AoE as radius in their head. It's not losing 30-40% radius, not even close.

people are talking about 30-40 % AREA NERF, not radius
stop trolling if you have nothing to contribute.

You accusing me of trolling and having nothing to contribute is pretty ridiculous. If you don't understand what you are talking about and can't read don't get aggressive with other people.
Anyway, here's a mockup of 1 cluster + gem.

picture shows 1 cluster +gem which is 26% aoe nerf nobody just takes 1 cluster so picture is pointless (just look at how small the aoe is still for general endgame mapping!), you want much aoe as you can.
2 cluster+gem is 30% aoe nerf with (unchanged) dying sun i would expect it to be close to 40% nerf.

Yeah, I take mace notables on my Flameblast builds, too.
Carcass Jack? Nope. Despite the AoE it's not better than a Vaal Regalia or even a Cloak of Flame.
Divinarius? Nice joke.
The radius helm enchant? Probably, but it's not so uncommon to prefer the damage for boss killing.
Actually as much AoE as you can? Pillar of the Caged God. One Flameblast to cover the whole screen! Yeah! Except no, it's not worth it either.
Two cluster + gem + Dying Sun is the formula because it's considered the best tradeoff between AoE and other things right now. For pizza sticks, for example, it's extremely easy to find situations where the pseudo-AoE of more totems and cast speed beats out getting more actual AoE at the amounts we can get them in the current climate.
Yes, a patch aimed specifically at changing the effectiveness of stacking increased AoE might change the optimal amount of AoE to take. Yes, Flameblast is getting worse overall because the evening out of the options is being done by making the best option worse. Is it now unplayable? Well, compared to what? Animate Weapon? Blade Vortex? If that is your standard it wasn't playable this season, either.

??? who mentioned mace notables?

Hmmm... do I spot another sunder buff in: Sunder gains +1 radius every 3 levels now?
i guess curses / blasphemy will be fine. BV probably fine as well. Contagion got a small increase to base, so ED/Contagion builds also prolly still fine. small hit to EQ radius. FB will probably have a smaller radius as well, but I am not sure how much of a difference it actually will be. Might hurt the quality of life/clearspeed of sticks though.
didnt even know static strike had a variance in the base size of the aoe effect... the more you know.
Dunno overall I don't see that changes doing too much?
edit: eh according to:
the difference isnt that much. so *shrugs*

Actual patch notes come in two days.

Might be the league to run BV, before double dipping gets nerfed then. The FB stuff looks quite a lot smaller though. Thanks for the links.
edit: another redditor posted this: http://i.imgur.com/1HUZav0.jpg
so i am not quite sure now. instructions unclear. dick got stuck in mixer.

Ok, that is a huge nerf to FB...

Also seems with Righteous Fire radius buff and legacy Kaom's Heart there might be a lot of those builds :D

I would consider playing selfcast RF if it wasn't so restricted by map mods.

Yeah, it's very cheap, can run any map mods and is pretty strong if you play a good build. But it's incredibly boring imo (and I generally like totem builds). Plus annoying when monsters run out of totem range, but that will be less of a problem with more AoE.
