With the mental hit all these players took from losing the match (and an unsatisfying season in all regards), Germany's chances for the cup may have been seriously diminished. Its the best way for them to "get up on the horse" again. Germany definately still one of the huge favourites, I think they are better than all the other teams bar Spain and Holland.

2012: Germany loses Euro 2012 Final ?
Germans aren't clutch any more, can't get the job done.

I agree that they're probably the third best team in the Euros, but it will be interesting to see how they play there. It must have been a huge hit for them and it'll be hard to just pick up and play well.

You should also add World Cup 2006 and 2010 both times getting 3rd and loosing to the eventual winner. Anything else than a title going to Germany in the next 2 years would be kinda ridiculous imo.

Tremendous scenes in Ligue 1. PSG have won their final game meaning that Montpellier need a draw or win to win the title for the first time in their history. They are currently tied 1-1 against Auxerre in a match that has been delayed due to crowd troubles (mainly flares) with roughly 20 minutes to go.
|
It got suspended... anyone from France that can shed some light?
|
Its back on - security had to clear out an entire stand. Montpellier scored again from an Utaka goal so they look likely to win the title.
|
Ahh sad for PSG. But Montpellier really deserved this. Fantastic displays from them!

You guys are forgetting that Bayern is not the entire German national team. Yea, there are a lot of them on the Bayern squad, but Dortmund had 5 internationals starting in their German Cup win against Bayern, and they just came off of winning a Double. There are also several other players coming from different squads. I highly doubt that Bayern's losses will affect the national team in any way.

Absolutely right, and of course we've had such stellar players as the German national team the entire time....oh wait. We never did, and nobody thought so, unless they work for the Sun or the BBC.
Germany has been a hell of a lot better than England for a long time. Our so-called Golden Generation was saddled with a title it could never live up to because people seemed to think we should walk the 'weaker' teams and beat the larger. All it should have meant is that we had an above average team with one or two players who were world class. Hopefully now we can concentrate on qualifying for competitions and trying to get out of the group stages like our past performances say we should be aiming at.

Germany's Golden Generation pretty much with the WC 2006. Ballack/Kahn were the only reason Germany got to the final in 2002.

No you'd rpobably have to look back to 1992 Euros to find the last sort of great German "Golden" team. World Cup 2006 squad was like a pretender to the 2010 one, young players who turned out to be good (Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Podolski), those who didn't turn out too good (Odonkor, Huth, Hanke, Jansen) - I don't think Mertesacker is really any good either, but decided just to leave it here since people tend to think he is.
Gerald Asamoah.
Remember him Germany? Never scored more than 10 goals a season for Schalke and still managed about 50 caps. No, those were still the dark days.

Gerald Asamoah is now back to the Bundesliga, he lead Greuther Fürth to the promotion.

Löw is not going to field more than two Dortmund players - he usually relies on a core of players, adding one or two surprise picks. Of Dortmund's five internationals, Götze and Bender have been injured for a long time (Bender may or not make the cut to the final 23), Gündogan hasn't made a lot of appereances yet (and will probably not make the cut to the final 23) and Löw usually prefers Boateng over Schmelzer (who didn't have too great a season, too). Only Hummels has a real shot at a spot in the starting eleven, even though Löw admittedly doesn't like his style of playing long passes to the strikers (which works with Lewandowski, but probably not with Gomez) - maybe Mertesacker will take his spot instead. We might see Bender or Gündogan - if they make the cut - occasionally replace Schweinsteiger, or Götze be substituted in for Müller/Özil, but I don't really expect them to be fielded from the start.

i lol'ed so hard :D
i think germany improved so much the last 10 years (you have to remember most of the pros that won 1996 were old/close to retirement) and its likely they will win a cup soon (maybe not this but the next one)

international football is meh, it is second rate compared with the domestic leagues and the european cup, most footy fans in england would rather their team did well than the national one

germany won't have a chance of winning the euro 2012, not with 8 bayern players just having experienced one of the worst losses in football history. how the hell do you expect them to play a focused, motivated cup? not gonna happen.
yes, there are other players on the squad, but the most important players are from bayern. you're not going to win anything this year. it could have been a beautiful summer....

Hmm, who are the favourites to take the Euros then. Spain?
