I have no problems with a club like manchester united building a team over a 25 year long period and increasing their income and thus their possible expenditures through great management - having some teams that are consistently good isn't necessarily a bad thing. the problem arises when a team becomes good because a billionaire wants to play real life football manager, because 1: once/if said billionaire stops injecting money, the club isn't self-sustainable, and 2: that much money being artificially pumped into some teams, means that other second-tier teams that want to become first-tier teams have no way of accomplishing it without teaming up with billionaires of their own.
Madrid also got a huge inject of money via "mafia" Florentino-Madrid government, selling some grounds for a much higher price than they are worth to try and solve their huge debt. Some years later after that they still owe the biggest debt in Spanish football and one of the biggest in Europe.

Ridiculous and uninformed comment from a Barça fan. While RM used the housing bubble to make a huge profit out of their training grounds, FC Barcelona was proudly announcing how they never will do so to protect their tradition and value, only to sell them 6 years later by a ridiculous amount of money.
For your interest, some figures on debt, income, and such in big teams:
Forbes most valuable clubs list 2011:

Official stuff and numbers can tell all you want, but everyone with half a brain knows there's more than that in real life. Hence the "mafia" reference. This shouldn't be surprise to anybody knowing other cases like in Italy or the Di Stéfano signing case, just to call a few.
The fact that madrid government helped hella lot to the club by overpaying for some training grounds still remains. Like around 250mil for some grounds that were not even worth 100 (numbers might be even worse, I'm going safe mode because it's all from memory). Also, Florentino used his own money because he loves the club and it really needed the funds. Catalunya government didn't overpay Barcelona for his grounds (as the spanish people say, we don't give our money easily) and that's why they still have a debt.

Well, you call it mafia, I call it selling when the most profit is going to be made. If you sell in the middle of a financial crisis, of course you still have your debt. Everybody with half a brain understands that. Anything else are fairy tales.

He's won like everything in spain and italy so taking a fat sum of money to see out his career isn't a bad move for himself

He will be the highest paid player in the world, he also has already won every club trophy and is 30 so understandable imo. Nasri deal expected, Hazard seems to be staying. Zarate and M'Vila more likely. If that article tells the truth, then it's unfortunate Wenger remains a "company man" and thus takes the blame for all of Arsenal's transfer faillings. Though whoever leaked all the info must've wanted the public to get on Wenger's side and pressure the board. It's nice to see Wenger knows what's needed to improve the squad and will even refuse to buy lesser players like Dann/Jagielka even though they fit into Arsenal's wage structure. There really aren't that many bargains anymore, it now seems a miracle Wenger was able to buy anyone at all let alone Gervinho.

Thoughts on Mata making an impact in Chelsea? I hope he can bring that creativity and flair that's missing from Chelsea's midfield. And if he does, hopefully that can rub off onto Torres because he certainly needs someone who can feed him well.

Eto'o gives like half his money to Cameroon every year, so I'm happy he gets that absurd high sum.
