Is it just me or is Hugo's recovery too fast and damage too high on normals? Like for example his jumping HP does as much damage as the 360 grab, what? And the 360grab whiff, recovers really fast. He can also combo a bunch of weird normals that he couldn't do in 3rd strike, like jumping HP,LK. And he has some others longer combos (like 5 hits plus?) And of course he has all those upgrades since 3rd strike, like EX meat squasher etc. It's kind of ridiculous how hugo compares to other grapplers, they seem like shit compared to him because he has grabs and attacks. His only real downside is his walk speed and his hurtboxes, but considering his ridiculous range on pokes and shit it's not even bad. They need to patch him methinks. PS- post more of your USF4 matches, or stuff like MikeRoss/Gootecks clips.

Comparing Hugo to other grapplers is tough. Its been a pretty even match up vs Geif for me but T.hawk is really hard. I also think Hugo has the hardest time with fireballs compared to the other grapplers. Don't think I've seen a single Hakan online yet so no comment there. His range on pokes is amazing yes but there recovery and speed is sub par. Its not hard for good players to wait you out and counter poke your slow ass normal's (why Bison owns me so hard). You have to be super patient and really mix it up.

IMO the problem with grapplers is that they have weak combos and don't actually deal more damage than other characters. In fact, it's often the opposite. It's stupid how a character like Hugo has less than 300 damage BnBs while a fast, nimble character like Akuma for example easily deals 300+ off anything. Hugo has very weak / no tools against fireball zoning. Zangief who is far better against fireballs gets destroyed by zoners all the same. I think that Hugo's only viable because people are unfamiliar with him. When they become more familiar, he's going to be practically impossible to win with and is the worst character in the game. By the way, Hugo's considered the worst grappler. You are way off.

Here is a match that better represents a typical match for me. The first 2 vids are more rare where I'm able to take full control. This is however a little bit of online delay vs Elena who has stupid good uppercut, overhead and slide. Plus awesome walk speed. I need a little bit of luck and crazy good reads to pull it off.

He has no mobility options and all his normals have super slow startup, meaning he gets bullied easily by zoners and rushdown characters alike. He does really good damage with his combos, though. General consensus among the high-level players is that he's low tier though, possibly the lowest of all. Hey I'm curious, among you experience players, what's the current breakdown in tier looking like for the new characters?

So far, people saying Elena and Decapre are the best ones of the new. Rolento is a bit gimmicky, Poison feels mid tier ish because she's very honest, and Hugo is low tier for sure, even tho he has some really good tools.

Poison seems like one of those basic/mid-tier characters, a lot like Guile, where there will be a small handful of players that play ridiculously well in the zoning game and frustrate everyone, and end up doing well. Decapre is solid but I think people will learn to play against her fairly quickly, high-mid tier at best. I think Elena is VERY good, but only a tiny number of players will really take her to full potential with the mind games and fundamentals (case in point, Justin is already doing very well with her) I'm still wishy washy on Hugo. I think all of his matchups are going to be polarizing. Against zoners and anyone with a long-range button or two, ridiculously bad matchup. Against other rushdown-style characters, maybe very very good matchup. No inbetweens, no 5-5's. Just seems like the nature of the character.

As for the best new character, it's probably Elena. Nice high-low game and powerful hitconfirm and punish combos. I don't like Poison or Rolento, and Decapre's moveset just seems extremely gimmicky. Still, Decapre has very good japanese voice acting and I still think she's the second-best new character.

If you're starting with the overhead it might make sense, because the attack is connecting later in its animation (on crouching opponent)? Though his hits twice so I'm not sure if it'd make a difference or not. I'm curious to try it later myself. Guess that's a good thing cuz f.MP is gonna primarily hit crouching opponents anyway ![]()

The overhead is forward+hp, and it can't be comboed from (at least in practical match situations) Oh you're right, let me fix my face. Sorry! So used to f.MP being the overhead for many chars. In that case I'm really not sure. As was mentioned, there definitely are normals/specials that do different amounts of hit stun depending on stand or crouch, but to my knowledge it's inconsistent and usually not the case.
