Are there any good places for PUGs that you guys know of?

Nope, they are very much alive. The server is just usually empty during the day but as evening comes, the mumble fills up and you get 7v7's up to 14v14's most of the night. Another place for PUG's is quaknet IRC #Tamixed. Type !add to add yourself to the mix there, but these tend to take a while to fill up and usually no more than 1 per day happen.

They merged with ART(an reddit tribe). So we all moved to their server. Games are always going on post 7:00 EST.

Not sure if that Brute update will be a welcome addition, considering how hard multiple Raiders are to deal with when they all have plasma guns. I like the first gun though, oddly enough.

New weapons, live stream integration, if only we could get proper balance patches as well, like, actually making the game more esports. Some of the top EU teams haven't even signed up the ladder which tells you the grim story how the game really is. Guess I'll just keep playing for first win of the day and hope for better.

Another issue trying to get fixed by perks, which was supposed to be in last patch already, or maybe I remember wrong. I just can't comprehend how nowadays issues seem to get fixed by some band aid slapped over instead of spending time in development to change and improve the game. Guess this is how things are done nowadays, release game, move development to new game, keep releasing patches to generate income? I'd like to believe not but if T:A and Nexuiz are supposed to be the latest and greatest competitive FPS games I don't even want to know what we are going to have in 10 years.

Seriously... I have 310 gold left on my account, and today i get a discount on the doombringer mines which brings the price to 315 gold so I can't buy it... Seriously that's one of the thing that i HATE with this gold system, you will always end up with unused money.
Also i'm not really interested by unlockinga 310 gold item, i would much rather use it to unlock a big weapon but I can't buy an item with XP and gold at the same time...

Considering a lot of people here are complaining the game has huge flaws, balance and game design wise, I was wondering if someone would take their time to write up what those flaws are? It would be most appreciated. Also, what is the element that would make T1 worthy of being an esport if it was released right now and not T:A?

Im asking out of curiosity, being a newbie at the game, and not having played T1 and 2, I really cant see anything wrong with the game... except maybe snipers being too stronk...

Also, Ive read a lot of posts (so Im not just spoilt and asking to do my work for me, at least I hope) and there were a lot of valid complaints from the start of the beta to now, like inheritence, pysics, then pricing model, shrikes, chainguns, chasing, etc. But Im not sure exactly which one of those would make the competitive teams not participate in ladder like the person above pointed out.

Though tbh neither game is worth being an esport but both are worth being competitive games.

I think Hi-Rez is just trying to squeeze as much money from this game as possible until people realize that it is actually quite a bad game. At first i give them benefit of the doubt for the Jackal and Plasma gun but now i think it is intentional.

I'm a noobie so I won't comment on the competitive aspect, but I want to make sure that eventhough there are a lot of things to complain about in this game ( biggest problem is the business model for me) it's still a very entertaining shooter, I've sinked in more than 100h on it and I still enjoy it.

edit: concerning the patch.. 4% damage nerf on Jackal. Lol that's certainly going to change everything.

I don't think base T1 as-is would be very good as an esport to be honest. If you want to go down the "base" gameplay road, T2c is a much better game in terms of overall gameplay breadth and equipment balance, and would offer a better base on which to build a new title on.


I don't see why something like T1 LT (5v5 spawn-in-loadout CTF with light armor, epack,disc,chain, nadelauncher, hand nades) OTOH couldn't work. Small team sizes, fast pace, with much emphasis on individual player skill and player coordination. I guess it could be somewhat repetitive from a spectator point of view, but then again I don't see how that's much different from say, current form T:A or CS.

Why T1 and not T:A 5v5 pathfinder-only CTF? Because the movement mechanics and physics are miles better in the former for the type of game.

I think the main issue people have is that of all the gameplay and mechanic changes in T:A, very few have actually improved it or imbued more depth into the game, where as quite many have changed the game for the worse.

The reason why the community is pretty sour in general though is that T:A could be a lot better ( - if different from its predecessors) game than it currently is if the developers weren't so stubborn about some of the design choices.


Shortlist of what's precieved as a problem or part of a bigger problem with the game:
- physics are needlessly limiting and a terribly unintuitive mess of corner cases and special rules
- health regen is plain bad and fucks up a lot of things (chasing, offensive base turtles) in the gameplay
- two weapon limit and slow weapon switch times makes for boring and simple combat mechanics and weapon balance, problem is further exacerbated by the physics/movement model

- air control (+regen) is a huge boon for cappers and opens up essentially limitless route possibilities
- game lacks a reliable method to stop cappers cold on stand
- snipers are overpowered because they need to be because of ^^ and no chasing
- spotting mechanic is stupidly abusable

Increased damage on Soldier’s Proximity Grenade by roughly 3%. For those wondering, nades in this game are already really strong and pretty easy to hit with, proxies are just even easier to hit with.

And with changes like these I wonder more and more how much they play their own game, and if they do what on earth are they doing. And new weapons, let's see if they actually have play tested these weapons this time

The game is probably fun in pubs sure, Nexuiz is pretty fun on pubs too if you like killing the whole enemy team when you've the power ups. However both games supposedly were aimed to be competitive "esport" games but the thing is both devs didn't really seem to go all the way to make this.

Im not sure but afaik a proxy hit was ~420-430 dmg. So basicly there were some rare occasions where a capper could get out alive with the flag after 2 hits. 3% increase should make it a sure kill. Dont nail me down on those numbers. I could be completly wrong since i got them turned off, but thats actually the only scenario where I do see the 3% increase have any effect on gameplay. After all the proxy has a really low dmg output compared to other grenades.
