Depends on what you're doing, but anti-magic is an amazing brand and if you have 20 polearm skill you're at min delay for bardiche anyways. Later on there will be fewer things that you can drain with vampiricism and more things that cast spells that will make you glad you have the anti-magic weapon.

I'm not really sure FDA is a "lightweight" armour but it provides more GDR than MDA I think, and the rf++ is much better than napalm immunity. Do you have some way to deal with the rc-? How's your EV in either armour?

I currently just got a mottled hide, but not sure if I should use the enchant armour on it now or later. I've never played a pure melee char that doesn't choose the highest AC armour, so it's just a general question as to what armour I should aim for.

I guess I'll switch from the vamp. glaive to the anti-magic bardiche late game. Probably after vaults?

I think you're best off with FDA, if you have points to spend in armor and got some rc+. Otherwise I'd stick with the best leather armor or ring mail available.

The weapon? I'd switch immediately.

Well, your EV is looking pretty solid. Even with the hit to EV from getting FDA you'll still be above 30 which is good enough, and FDA should bump up your AC a bit. The Devil's Advocate and the gauntlets of war together mean you pack a pretty decent punch, too.

My initial thought is FDA is good but find something that gives you rC+ if you can. With some points in armour you'll be able to hit 30 AC 30 EV which is what you want. If you're down in vaults the anti-magic weapon should be good, and it deals more damage anyways.

Crate probably knows better than I do though.

As mfbe you should wear mda or something heavier ... mda is certainly good enough and if you don't need resistances then you might as well make and enchant one since you have it. If you have a fire dragon hide already then that's an ok choice too, or plate armour is probably fine if you want also.

Vamp glaive is better than antimagic bardiche for general use but you should 100% carry the antimagic bardiche around also because when it's better it's much better and you should have it around so you can swap.

Alright, this is one of my best shot at winning the game so far, and I don't want to waste this one like the last...
Any piece of advice is welcome, and I have some questions as well. I'm planning on a 3 rune win, hopefully.

Should I keep the same gameplan 'till the end ? Evocation + Nemelex is ok for ranged/magical fighting or should I add some magic and/or a ranged weapon ?
I got a good amount of enchant weapon scrolls, not sure what to do with them. Use them on the lightning rod ? The great mace ? Wait for a better weapon ?
Does magic resist works for all elements or just "pure" conjuration spells ?

for me i had 2 very promising vpsu that i killed off (one stupid by 2round death from 2 elephants,1 by getting banish and bad luck in abyss). super funny class ,maybe too "easy" for the pros but if you get a bit lucky with books the lair - orc and lair branches part is mostly a joke.

after them wanted another tabber and went again with migl, this time with staves. stupidly powerful btw if you find a lajatang reasonably early (acquirement gave me a +4/+4 venom artifact midlair).

cleared spider and shoals without big trouble, did orcs and elf,d to 26 and vaults down to 7. feel quite powerful vs almost evrything. boris is annoying after killing him 3 times already but the real problem is that im terribly short on scrolls. blink,teleport etc without a telewand. lack of conservation did cost me a shitton.

other then that i have most of what i wanted from oka. latajang of speed recently and a +16 plate armor.

what is best way too approach now?

thought about maybe taking my first steps at more then 3 runes and maybe ditching oka for tso(even worth it given how nice finesse is)? but with the lack of escape consumables im a bit scared. i have 2-3 teleport and 1 blink stashed away but thats it.

can i go further this time? when to switch?

/ have a acquirement, blow that for a wand inhope of teleportation to atleast have some "reliable" escape?

LOL Chief of Staff. I've never seen that title before.

What I'd be concerned about pressing into endgame is your lack of resists. Since you're pure melee, you've basically got no shot with just rF+ and rC+. I usually use lategame acquirements on jewelry for this reason and the high % of a randart, however, you should check your identified items to make sure you don't have a bunch of unID'ed crap jewelry, or else it will weigh towards those. I honestly don't think you need a teleport wand very badly, scrolls are so common and you don't have a way to control teleport. Requesting jewelry can give you conservation and solve the consumable problem too.

If you're switching to TSO, best way is clear Vaults and Zot (or at least Z:4), then switch and get your piety up in Crypt, and move on to Pan or whatever you plan on doing.

Um, it's hardly uncommon to only have one (or sometimes zero, if you're using MR plate or something) pip of resistance from your armour. You never need more than 2 total pips of resistance outside of a zig, and thankfully that is the exact number you can get from non-artefact rings.

(well I guess you might want rC++ and rElec for Lom. Potions of resistance exist.)

Anyway I would suggest hitting things while using tactics because you don't need any more items or xp if you play smart enough.

Couldn't disagree more, jewelry definitely gives more frequent and more useful randarts than armor. It's nearly always a randart if you have most everything ID'ed. Armor also has a much bigger chance of being something that you just straight up can't or won't use. I know we're comparing to wand here but jewelry is definitely not terrible "on average".

lol'ed a bit at the comment about the dump being unreadable. There's nothing unreadable about it.

Well yes I could copy the dump and then put it in notepad to read the % information but that's awful and I dont want to do that. (Not using code tags also makes the display of your current viewport unreadable, crawl uses fixed-space font for a reason...)

Anyway I just went to wizmode, identified every piece of jewellery, and then acquired jewellery 24 times. The best item I got was either a non-randart amulet of faith (well, ok, my character already had one so I guess this is not good), a +5 ring of evasion, or a +4,+5 ring of slaying. I got 6 randarts total and they were all basically useless (the best is a stat-boosting rC ring). Jewellery acquirement is usually not very useful unless you are a felid.

Armour acquirement also gives a lot of junk but I did 24 armour acquirements (at 14 armour skill) and got at least 11 items that are probably better than what my character already had. Best was a +10 artefact plate with other stuff, or +2 rC gloves, or a +2 acc+6 helmet. This is much better than 1/24 items being better than what I had. (Disclaimer: a reasonable portion of those 11 were shields, but I think if I had more weapon skill I would get fewer shields since I am pretty sure that acquirement takes that into account; I had 14 long blades/0 shields when I did this.)

Weapon acquirement is hard to judge in wizmode because the real benefit of it is that you almost always use it when the basetype you want is one you haven't seen yet, so I can't just do 24 acquirements in a row and look through them to get an idea of what it normally gives. Nevertheless I did 24 weapon acquirements from 14 long blades skill; I got 4 non-artefact triple swords, Doom Knight, 2 demon blades, a double sword of slicing, a -4,+6 artefact double sword of pain, and then some trash. Realistically this would be more slanted toward triple swords, double swords, and demon blades unless you've ID'd them all, but in that case you're not looking to acquire weapon anyway.

Too lazy to test wand right now, it is by far the most likely to give you an item that is useful, though the ceiling is obviously lower as well.

so cleared v8 now,got 3rd rune and am lvl 27. tried slime but the royal jelly always retreated behind his spawns when low and fighting 10+ acid blobs and azures is not cool. gave up after burning through 4-5 permafood and quite some piety. guess fast weapons are bad against him anyways so my 0.2 delay doesnt help..

now go for more runes? clear zot first? do abyss rune or pan first?

you could clear zot:1-4 if you want to find some stuff. leaving with 3 runes is fine, too.

If you're low on permafood then don't go Abyss. Clearing Zot and Crypt would be fine, then you can go to Pan from there, or Dis. Pan will give you a lot of food and random consumables, but the only problem is that I really don't think you can fight Lom or Cerebov at the moment. Crate seems to think you can, so I guess trust him, but personally I'd want at least rF+++ and rC++ before going in.

That character can certainly kill Cerebov if you play right but it most likely involves not killing him in a single encounter (Cerebov is actually pretty easy to kill as long as you're willing to repeatedly teleport away and come back once you're healed up). You could also just blink scroll past him and grab the rune and then teleport away, which is almost certainly simpler.

You never have to kill Lom, especially if you have apportation. He likes wasting time doing things that aren't dangerous, like casting blink or cbl. This character can probably kill him anyway.

edit: I'm assuming you have a ring of protection from fire (or a ring of fire) somewhere when I say you can kill Cerebov.

Gloorx is more dangerous than either Cerebov or Lom for this character, by a sizable margin.

well i still have over 20 rations and honeycombs (found like 3 bee vaults) so food shouldnt be a huge problem for now. have rmut.

so plan is clear zot till4, switch tso, then do crypt and pan or abyss?


/edit can get to rf++ / +++ if needed. just short on teleport etc

That should work out pretty well. Crypt is a great way to pump TSO piety, and if you have plenty of permafood and rmut, you'll find you'll be gaining piety as a TSO worshipper in the abyss also without any major risks. Abyss is, well, abysmally boring, but the rune itself isn't terribly difficult to get if you don't have food problems and can deal with the occasional 2.

sounds good :>

did zot till 2 then the constant burning and shattering and annoyed me. went to drop oka for tso and did crypt. now entered abyss where im wandering around.

is it worth making a lajatang holy and ecnhanting it? my speed lajatang is at +8 currently.

also found another acq scroll and used it once for jewelry,once for wand. gave me a amulet of rage (gotta be like the only thing i havent id yet...) and a 2nd heal wand so meh.

/edit got the rune. dont think i took more then 20-30 dmg overall while i was down there. lost1dex cause i forgot to put on rmut, gained scrolls,pots and think even gained food. considering running a bit more around to get more stuff...
