Some recommendations if you're reading this and haven't gotten this far: Grab the armor off the altar at the far end of Ceaseless Discharge's room, and the dragon shouldn't be tough at all if you got the Shadow armor in Blighttown (the armor with +poison resist). The dragon is guarding a weapon that I heard can perma-kill some resurrecting skeletons later in the game. Finally upgraded my sword (Drake Sword +2 now) and my shield. Any complaint I had about this game's open world not being as good as the first game's hub world system are gone at this point. The sense of scale is really incredible, and the levels still feel completely separate, but with some neat shortcuts that make them all interconnected. Started Sen's Fortress and got down to the part where the floor appears to be made of tar or something. I killed one of those big headless things below the blacksmith on the way to the forest way back before I even killed Capra and thought it was a one-off miniboss. Apparently not. I saw at least 4 of those down there. Fml.

My question would be, how hard is it actually? I ask because these kinds of games have gotten beyond simple for people willing to create an optimal build, and I'm wondering if the claims of difficulty come from this newer gaming generation.

The first time through your build isn't going to make you OP ever. Sure the drake sword is good in the beginning, but it doesn't turn you into god. Same with the lightning spear late game, it's still difficult. If you liked Ninja gaiden you'll like this. The weapons simply dont scale well enough for someone who boosts lets say one stat to become OP.

Ive beaten ninja gaiden and ng2 on master ninja. This game is at least on the same level difficulty wise the first time through. Of course unlike ng you dont depend as much on skill and a lot of the difficulty comes from going in blind. If you were to plan out an optimal route and look up boss strats ahead of time it would make it a lot easier. So I would suggest going at it without doing that. Im about halfway through the game and so far Ive died a similar amount as going through master ninja. The games are similar in the way that you have to do a lot of trial and error and dying to get through sections from one save to another.

That's because PVP can happen almost anywhere, anytime. The conditions for basic PVP are simple. Both Invader and Defender have to be in human form (Reverse Hollowed). The Invader then uses an item called a "Cracked Red Orb" to initiate an invasion. Once started, the server picks a random human player for you to invade. So why invade then when we can all just be friends? One is that when you invade, you can take someone else's humanity and souls. Humanity determines drop rate. The more, the better chances of drops occurring. The second reason is that it is just for plain fun and pain for others as well. The Defender can choose to summon 2 other companions as allied phantoms, by invoking their summon signs. To place a summon sign, you must use the White Soapstone and place the summon sign on the ground. If the Defender wins the Invasion, the Defender and allies split the humanity and souls from the Invader. There are other ways for you to initiate PVP. As you mentioned, another option is going through the forest covenant scenario, but I'll leave you to figure that one out. I don't want to waste you learning experience. Have fun! ![]()

Defeat Ornstein & Smough in Anor Londo and enter the princess's chamber afterward - you don't have to join her covenant. Edit: The chamber is just on the second floor of where you fight Ornstein & Smough, just talk to her and you'll get it.

I was fortunate enough to find the Black Knight Sword which scales C STR and D or E DEX which nets me easily 300 base damage.

When you enter Darkwood Garden, below the smith, you run along the path that is basically a cliff in the mid section; The path with 4 bush mobs, before reaching the bonfire beside the seal gate. On your immediate left side of the screen, the other side of the cliff, there is a dead body lying with loot. How the eff do you get there?!

Look around there carefully, friend, and you may find out :-) I always wondered that, then one day just stumbled across the answer and nearly shat myself. Go wander around some more before someone tells you the answer, it's worth it :-p If you can't find it me / someone will post later I'm sure.

Is dark hand a good shield? Only shows stats as an attack. ![]()

Even around 58, I was two shotting everything with +5 black knight sword. If you really want to know how to get there + Show Spoiler + Go to the path towards moonlight butterfly. Right when you reach the open area, look to your right and see a tree you can attack to reveal a hidden path and from there, its just killing everything and going foward. You'll see the treasure at the end. It's the wolf ring which is very useful in situation where you cannot afford to get staggered. @Kamais_Ookin: The dark hand can be used as a weapon or shield. If you use the R2, it unleash a special attack which "drains" the soul of the enemy. Shield quality wise, it reduces every damage source by 80% so it's useful as an all purpose elemental shield. I found it more useful as a shield than weapon, though, it might be more useful in PvP.

How does Dark Souls direct you in the correct path to complete the game? I know there are no quests in the game and that its a very open world. So let say you exit the starting area do you just free roam area's? If so are there certain area's where the enemys will be a much higher level then you? Thanks to anyone who answers.
