What's the deal with Gaping Dragon?
+ Show Spoiler +He like, eats the ground and then I do what I normally do with my terrible cleric, I shove my Morning star (+4!) up his ass. Sure it took awhile but...I dunno, was happy for the souls

I just have question: Im only level 10 atm, should I spend souls more often to level up my character? I died a few times with alot of souls... Dunno what char you are playing. But imo get a heater shield for 100% block if you dont have a shield that has that allready. Also get a repair kit and a short bow w/arrows. Make sure to have some firebombs aswell. After you got this you are pretty much set to level up, you might want to get a few spells also if your a magic user. But basically items is more worth than levels in this game. But its no point runniing around with alot of souls to lose Thanks, Im playing as a Wanderer. Do you mean I should get the "repairbox" (god thats expensive) or just repair powder when needed?
As long as you are clearing around the Firelink Shrine or the Darkroot Garden, you'll have a blacksmith on hand to do your repairs (the firelink one is close to the entrance of the londo ruins). You don't really need a box until you want to set your bonfire to something further, but when you do it will be insanely useful. Repair powder is mainly for oh-shit-my-weapon-broke-and-im-mid-boss moments otherwise it sounds crazy expensive to buy that stuff whenever you want to repair.

PvP is pretty difficult. Most of it happens in the forest area. If you're really wanting a lot of it I'd suggest joining the forest covenant as they give you a thing that summons you anytime there's someone there. Most people have the fog ring (doesn't allow you to lock on to the character) and will stab you in the back then switch to the lightning spear and ram it down your throat. I've also been ganked by 2/3 people spamming soul arrow a few times. Not fun either.

Haha... Since I'm a "Mage" I've yet to use the Divine Ember. I accidentally gave the smith my Large Ember, but nothing happened. Tried google but no go; I'm at lost here.

Giving smiths embers just unlocks a new ascension option. So if you give them the divine ember, then you can turn a +5 weapon into a divine weapon at the smith; then you can keep upgrading yourself to +10. Large ember should let you turn a normal +5 into a normal +6 at the smith; then you keep upgrading yourself. If you don't have a +5 weapon already then you won't see any weapons listed under the ascension options. I think.
Also, I was pretty disappointed with divine :-( I don't really understand the holy / unholy damage modifier. I made a divine spear that was supposed to have more attack overall than my regular winged spear, but the winged spear actually did more damage. I just used the divine spear + Show Spoiler +in the catacombs to keep the skeletons dead... Though they stopped coming back to life at some point, maybe after killing the boss, not sure.

So basically you're saying there is no point keeping embers, and should just give them all to the smith? Speaking of which, how many smiths can take embers, and if yes, are they all the same or provide different types of upgrades?

Divine weapons prevent skeletons from reassembling in the Catacombs.

Yes, hence the spoilered part. My point was that my divine did less damage than it looked like it should, so (I think) after I killed the boss and the skeletons stopped reassembling anyways, my divine weapon was pretty useless.
@Fishball -- there's no reason to hang on to embers. Certain smiths do certain upgrades, so if you have an ember, you just have to find the smith that will take it to unlock that upgrade path. If you read the item description of the ember, too, it should tell you exactly what upgrade path it unlocks.

Have you even upgraded the divine weapons to +5 yet? The damage for the ascended weapons should reset to their base damage when you upgrade them. You should have been able to see those stats when you were upgrading.

I summoned 2 guys and promptly destroyed him.

+ Show Spoiler +I summoned Knight Solaire for that fight and I was so utterly disappointed... he got owned in like 15s and did no damage. Good thing Gaping Dragon is so easy though.

Am I the only one that died a lot on Gaping Dragon? + Show Spoiler +As long as he just did the thing where he pulls up then slams into the ground and lets you hit him I was fine, but after a few goes he would start doing other stuff, like chasing me around really quickly, swiping at me, and one time he did the acid puke thing. I don't know -- it seemed like if you kill him quickly it's easy, but if he starts doing other stuff I found it pretty difficult at the time -.-
But yeah, Knight Solaire was useless. He helped a lot on the gargoyles, but did nothing here.

For me, I just kept strafing around its side shooting Heavy Soul Arrows and Soul Arrows. The only damage I took was the tail whips, which I literally stood there and took the hit. The Gargoyle(s) boss didn't last more than 30 seconds, and I didn't even get hit.
A lot of people say magic in Dark Souls is somewhat inferior compared to Demon Soul's, but I strongly disagree. More of a hassle by splitting out the Fire Spells, but it's still very viable. Still somewhat early in the game for me, but I intend to bring my Demon Soul's build over and see how it goes at the end. I really wish the game would promote a bit more PvP though.
