lol what is this? There has been no game ever made that gives you the freedom to do what you want. It is always within limitations of the game design. There has been no game either, ever made that doesn't have optimised character builds. It's actually pretty impossible due to that game developers priority for some reason is never balance. Skyrim actually gives a very good stab at it, making it so that all characters are fairly identical at the start, the only differences coming from what race you have chosen.
As for that lvl 91 Smithing guy who has been leveling smithing, whoop de doo, how long have you been leveling smithing instead of playing the game? Or you have been playing and leveling naturally and got your deadric weapon normally. So you have to be at least lvl 40 to get that deadric weapon. Or you went looking for deadric heart and ebony. Is it broken? No it isn't, you are only doing as much damage as that lvl 91 Destruction guy who is merrily shooting at range.
First game I played, I went for double handed, armour, smithing, with a side of archery for range. Seemed overpowered right? Then I played a new game using conjuring and destruction and alteration. That too seemed overpowered. Then I played using achery and stealth. Seemed overpowered too. It all seems overpowered but that's because games are designed to make you feel powerful, otherwise you'll die to every dragon that you meet outside of plot armour.
And yes, nearly everyone I spoken to who has played Skyrim (unmodded) think it is an excellent game. You call it bad and unplayable. Compared to everything else on the market, it is a veritable work of genius.
|
I don't think anyone who's played the game unmodded after the patches can call the game a pile of unplayable shit. I am guessing a lot of the stigma attached to the game comes from the fact that once you play the game modded, it becomes incredibly hard to justify going back to it being unmodded.
|
Even in the retail-version the game was great. Obviously now with SkyUI and all the other Mods Vanilla with no Mods feels umplayable, but it was still alot of fun.
|
Skyrim was amazing when I first bought it on the Xbox 360 day 1 without any patch.
Skyrim is still amazing. I don't understand all the hate for it tbh. Next to Fallout, Cod4, and bioshock...Skyrim is in this gen's top 5 imo

The problem for me is the combat system and everything immediately around it (perks, smithing, enchanting and alchemy to a lesser degree). You out scale your enemies stupidly quick while your combat skills remain relatively low. My last character for example was level 14 and I was already doing over 100dmg per strike with my sword (not sneak attacks) and I only had 52 One-Handed.
|
I still enjoy playing the game casually. Mostly moved to playing from the couch on the xbawks these days, play other things on the computer. My only gripe is with the scaling, as others have mentioned. Seems challenging at low levels (I play on the highest two difficulties) but becomes a cakewalk somewhere in the teen levels and above. This is without picking up everything and selling it, not abusing smithing and enchanting (only use what I actually find), etc. Trying to make it consistently challenging but the scaling seems problematic at times.
|
again, installing the scaling version of "high level enemies" takes a minute.
Is almost impossible to scale the enemies so that everyone is happy. But Part of Skyrims development money was spend to enable everyone to modify it very easily.
I consider mods a part of ES games. I think they dont even disable achievements.

I love Skyrim and have played over 500 hours, but have never installed any mods that significantly change any mechanics. New weapons, quests, cahracters, and little conveniences (like the one that makes citizens run inside during dragon attacks), but no graphics or gameplay overhauls. I find the game by itself to be very fun. Sure, mods might make it better, but I don't believe that they are in any way required, nor is the vanilla game "shitty" by any means.
|
When I found out how to 1 shot a dragon with a dagger I gave up.. probably over a year ago.
I just started playing it again, and in the beginning its tons of fun. I'm going to try not to overlevel and make everything OP this time around.

It just hurts me when people play skyrim on pc yet have no idea about modding or don't want to mod their copy. It's a completely different game, visually it's just gorgeous and you can adjust the various gameplay elements to fit you better.
You want a mod that removes mob scaling? Done. Another that fixes the retarded vanilla stealth? It's there. You want dragons that are seriously challenging, not by mere hp/damage manipulation but by actual gameplay redesign? There is one. How about a whole new continent with an epic 20 hour long story to run through, fully voiced, very immersive, with pro standards yet done by modders in their spare time? Have at it son.
An admin must write a PLAY IT WITH MODS bulletin like in lr's on top of this thread, lol.

yes i have this played with like 650? hours. I love the immersive mods that i have on my game. and thank god for Gopher to be able to teach on how to install them.

A small piece of advice that made me enjoy the game much much more: don't powergame! Don't try to min-max your character, don't plan much. It's all about immersion! Get in your character's shoes for a few moments and avoid meta-gaming. It will become much more enjoyable. Turn that damn compass off and start exploring! I highly recommend Requiem to undo the level scaling and fundamentally change mechanics in a realistic way (you will probably die a dozen times in the starting dungeon and another few dozen before you get accustomed to it).
Ever since Morrowind, TES games have been about much more than the base game. True, TES 3 was a gem straight out of the box (but I could never find the will to properly role-play it... the skill system just begs to be gamed hard), but the real value is in modding. You play the game on release, you come back after a few months when you discover an awesome mod, spend another 100 hours and so on.
Damn, if only it had proper multiplayer...

So Installed that dragon mod and fast traveled to Skyborn Altar.
I kill the basic Dragon there, noting the new combat AI and mechanics. It seems nice, but beatable.
Then FOUR MORE DRAGONS fly in in formation and absolutely demolish me with regular attacks and that meteor storm that only Alduin usually has. It was like that scene you see of the Dragon War at the Throat of the World. Glorious.
|
are you sure that wasnt deadly dragons?
it has an option that makes dragons cast all kinds of evil spells. And elder dragon that is about to die usually casts inferno for example.
|
No, It was definitely Dragon Combat Overhaul. It's the first and only mod I installed from Nexus.
|
Does anyone know of any mods that allow for more movement options in and out of combat? If any of you play Minecraft, the mod Smart Moving is a good idea of the sort of thing I'm trying to find for Skyrim. Obviously there are engine limitations and such, so something as featured as Smart Moving isn't too feasible in an Elder Scrolls game, but if there's anything that at least opens up more movement options, that'd be pretty cool to see.
I know there are a couple of dodge mods on the Nexus, but they're all either pretty buggy or have pretty severe input lag so as to make them more of a liability than anything else.

I love deadly dragons, first time I had an assault was the battle of whiterun. Fighting a three way battle was insane
Does anyone have suggestions for non-performance impacting enbs, or something that functions like an enb? My setup is pretty bad in the first place

You could try things like lighting mods or things that affect saturation
I use Immersive Saturation Boost, and it's very lite on performance hit, and make things a bit more vibrant. Might suit your need. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32064/?

Hey, just started playing the game, I bought it a few months ago, and didn't enjoy the vanilla version too much, i tried out installing mods, and i have no problem whatsoever but installing SkyRe is proving to be a pain in the ass. It's just not working, i installed the 00916 as i was told, the 1301 just to try out but nothing, everytime the game crashes at the startup. I arranged the plugin order etc, and i tried out withouth any mod. I am currently playing on spanish, is it fine this way ?
Hell i wanted that perk system

Hell i wanted that perk system SkyRe is very finicky when you don't have Dawnguard and Dragonborn installed. If you want to use SkyRe, I would recommend buying those so you can have minimum fuss with conflicts and CTDs. Besides, the pre-Dawnguard version is very unstable when being used with other, more recent mods.
