If you intentionally disrupt this server your actions will be reported to TL staff and action may be taken against your forum account. |

I agree with you pal. All of these buildings happen to be forming around spawn but nowhere else! Eventualy you are going to run out of room at spawn so you will have to build somewhere else anyway! Plus, you wont get griefed much by greifers due to the fact that your not right outside the SPAWN!

Isn't grack pubby space anyways?

Yes. Most substantial projects are not happening there as a result. If you're going to build public, you should build remotely. Grack is not remote

Has anyone else had problems with lag? I just bought the game and have an annoying issue with lag. When I play online, within a minute or so I seem to lag out. Anything I say doesn't go through (typing /help brings nothing up) - and if I, say, leap off a tall tower, nothing happens when I hit the ground.
My computer is quite strong (SC2 on ultra is no problem) and I've even turned down all the in-game graphical options - no help.
Anyone have any ideas? =/
Thanks in advance!

It's a beta issue. To give you an example...
I used to run a 40 player server on a dual core i5 and 3 gigs of RAM. My current server runs a quad core Xeon and 8 gigs of ram, yet I can barely manage 30 players before lag starts kicking in.
Basically, beta requires more than twice the hardware that alpha did to get the same results. Was kind of hoping now that Notch is finally back from his holiday break we'd see some performance tweaks... but apparently he has decided to add a new monster and the ability to paint to the game to further degrade the performance.
Rather poor decision, if you ask me :/

Also, I hear chunk errors are worst in Grack.

I had also lost multiple stacks of redstone because i put them all in a case right before the crash. It was the worst thing that could happen to me.

I have a bit of extra redstone if you want it (I grossly overestimated how much it would take to complete the combination lock for my fortress' door).
My MC name is ThunderFlesh.

Is it possible to get a cartograph readout of the current map of the percentage composition of certain items?
I just want to have a good handle on the rarity of certain items (yeah, i know it will be skewed based on biomes present and area explored) ... but I would like to know say how rare clay is, or how rare diamond is for example.

This is just impossible... Ever since the latest Mac OS X update, Minecraft has been crashing constantly. I am literally unable to play right now to sate my addiction. =(
Notch, why can't you just focus on optimization instead of new content, especially since you said yourself the beta's primary goal was such?

0_0 glad I haven't updated yet... you mean to 10.6.6 right?

It would require a separate map for each block ID, and I already can't figure out a good way to upload a map because of it's size.
I can give you the block data, though.

The only carograph program i ever used was this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13134
It renders the map, and also outputs a text file like here: + Show Spoiler + Map surface is: 0 square meters Block amounts: Air: 31016687 Stone: 24892232 Grass: 216344 Dirt: 2583462 Snow: 12914 Snow blocks: 0
Water: 752111 Ice: 12522 Lava: 202898
Obisidian: 2842
Trunk: 12847 Leaves: 155892 Wood: 0 Cactus: 35 Pumpkin: 20
Sand: 536885 Gravel: 821487 Clay: 367
Gold Ore: 16176 Iron Ore: 154347 Coal Ore: 286488 Diamond Ore: 6919 Redstone: 55331
Cobble: 14157 Glass: 0 Cloth: 0 Gold: 0 Iron: 0 Diamond: 0
Farmland: 0 Crops: 0 Reed: 52 Torch: 878 Jack-O-Lantern: 0 CraftTable: 4 Chest: 87 Furnace: 21 Wooden Doors: 2 Iron Doors: 0 Signs: 0 Ladder: 38 Railtracks: 988 Wooden Stairs: 0 Rock Stairs: 0 Lever: 0
Buttons: 0 Pressure Plates: 0 Redstone Powder: 0 Redstone Torches: 1 Redstone Torches: 1
Bloodstone: 0 Slow Sand: 0 Lightstones: 0
I can then put all of the relevant data into a spreadsheet and find percentages, and thus rarity of certain items. I am not particularly interested in the image, but rather the output data.
