Went to my first ever legacy tournament yesterday and oooohhh god, is this format unforgiving... Showed up with a Br reanimator deck I was playing in 2005 and that I had slightly updated. Stomped half my opponents (namely, non control decks... Turn 2 Jin-Gitaxias WHAT YOU GONNA DO???) and was demolished by all the others (threshold was such a tough match-up). All in all, not a very fun evening, I'm probably going to focus on modern as an eternal format

Hope you enjoy playing Magic, better bring your meal cause God knows you'll never get to eat lunch or dinner or see the light of day.

Does anyone here still drafts RTR Block? I've played 2 swiss this week and want some feedback for my draft.

This is so true, for those of you who have never played in a big tournament IRL. At Pro Tour: Berlin, there was no food at the venue. So some bloke set up a super ghetto grill outside on under 0C weather and was grilling patties and hotdogs, and selling them for 2-3 euro each. Needless to say, there was a crowd of people standing outside and eating out in the cold until someone would scream "PAIRINGS ARE UP" at which point everyone would scurry back inside, leaving many longing for sustenance.

I think the issue here is not so much the fact that there isnt food at the venue, but rather that this is a 4500 ppl GP with god knows how many rounds, let alone trying to leave and re-enter the building on time if a lunch break is planned lol

Yeah; in my experience lunch breaks are rarely planned. GPs and PTs almost certaintly go overtime, and they're trying to move things as fast as possible - meaning GLHF FINDING LUNCH/DINNER. I was just trying to highlight how desperate people were for anything to eat.

Too many dicks on the magic floor.
Edit: This place is hilarious. New slogan.
GPs... Where 5s become 10s!

Hey all,
have just started getting into magic online from the few MtG vids of Day9 awhile back, and I had a question for those more familiar with the interface:
I noticed modern masters 64 players drafts are being run pretty regularly, but the buy in is pretty steep at 9 tickets and you have to get in pretty far in advance; are there are any regular swiss/4-3-2-2 drafts that I'm missing or is that simply not being done on magic online? I'd love to try out a fairies or giants deck in limited, and doing drafts seems like a great way to build a collection for those starting out, but if there's only the 64 drafts I may have to reconsider.

Been a very long while since I've touched the MTGO client, but there should be Swiss/4-3-2-2 drafts. I don't think they're listed under tournaments though...but once again, very long time since I've touched it.
EDIT: Also...pretty sure you can't draft Faeries or Giants in the current set pool.

Yeah, I've been seeing RTR block and M13 as the only ones with swiss/4-3-2-2
and white/red giants seemed like it could be pretty good in modern masters; there's nice uncommons in cloudgoat ranger and thundercloud shaman, you get to grab bound in silence from the rebel decks and get your own removal in crush underfoot, plus kithkin greatheart is a 3/2 first strike for 2 without too much work.
Fairies I'm less sure of, but it seems like there's enough of them to make a fast flying deck, maybe not.

CHeck under the release tournaments tab.

64-man tournaments for MM is not worth it unless you make top 8. You're better off doing swiss or 4-3-2-2 if you're just casually drafting it. You can find them under: Play --> Tournaments --> Limited --> Release Queues.

I do swiss as I think it's the most friendly for newer players, however, isn't 8-4 better than 4-3-2-2?

For payouts yes, but that only applies if you are good. Not recommended for new players.

You are awesome Jugan =)
And micro, I'm with you basically: I'm new so I'd take swiss given the chance, but 4-3-2-2 feels like a slightly riskier/slightly higher pay off without me having to do, y'know, well.

The thing is, if you lose round one, you are out. You get no prize and you don't get to practice two more matches. If you do swiss, you get to play all three matches, even if you lose one or two of them. Swiss, to me, seems much better for learning. Also, if you have a really off two matches, there's a decent chance you will get a bye in round three and still recover one pack, at least.
Once you get good, I would think you would want to switch from swiss to 8-4... I just don't see a need for 4-3-2-2 in the interim.

Honestly, given the investment cost for modern masters ($7/pack) playing swiss is not that bad of a deal. Each win basically nets you $7 vs. other draft formats where packs are usually deflated. Limited is still akin to gambling; even the best players lose in the first round.
