In the casual room, you play standart? I was looking for some cards price online and there's a price difference in each edition, but same card, I think that's kind of weird.
You can play any format in the casual room, just choose the right option from the drop-down menu.
Price difference for different card printings is mostly based on aesthetics and rarity. You can play any printing of a card.

Price difference are because of rarity, Sometimes promo cards are cheaper then recent edition card, sometimes its the othe way around yet so long as any printing is legal in the format all printings of the card can be used

2 friends went x-1 on day 1, one of them got 15th. I scrubbed out midway through day 1 and just hit the dealer tables to sell Standard cards and bulk rares~

starcitygames.com will need to pay for the premium content channelfireball.com fully free
There are others. I highly recommend you not drop too much money at the start.

I've been watching videos on channelfireball. They are ~10-15 minutes long and automatically jump to the next game, so it's very convenient.

For limited IMO, my main recommendations are LSV, Owen Turtenwald, and David Ochoa. Some of the other videos on CFB are either uploaded extremely late, or of dubious quality, though they all will help at a low level.
As far as streamers go (again, for limited): I would recommend myself, Owen again, Josh Ravitz, Mike Jacob (be careful not to copy-paste his pick orders as he has very different ideas about limited from most people, but he's still insanely good), and possibly DzyL. There actually aren't very many good limited streamers on Twitch, Ravitz is probably the best one who streams regularly.

I had a good day in magic (finally!). I did a 3 booster RTR block draft (swiss) and won my first two matches (one of them I was 1-2 seconds away from losing when my opponent ran out of time rofl). I lost the third match; game 1 was kinda close, game 2 I got utterly manascrewed.
This evening I did a 4 booster sealed deck (RTR block) and won all three matches (two of them were very close). The reward for that is actually 6 boosters which I was very happy to learn (and a qualifying point, but I don't have much use for it). The heroes of the sealed deck tourney were probably Rogue's passage and Unflinching Courage, with honorable mentions for syndic of tithes, Progenitor Mimic, and Alive/Well.

I keep forgetting to write here so the short version:
5-3 drop at GP Houston. Punted a game I was 90% losing anyway (but killed myself because I read Ruric Thar as "opponents" rather than "players"), then just got flooded/screwed out of 2 matches against vastly inferior decks. I was playing 7 1-2 drop creatures with Gyre Sage, Mizzium Mortars, Ruric Thar, Deadbridge Goliath, and Molten Primordial.

I made my cards look somewhat less fucked up by placing them between two books and in front of a heater. They don't look too horrible now at least.

Hey just wondering if you guys can give me some feedback on this deck idea before I buy it because it's pretty expensive :
+ Show Spoiler + Creatures (16) : 1x Yosei, the Morning Star 1x Kokusho, the Evening Star 1x Jugan, the Rising Star 1x Ryusei, the Falling Star 1x Keiga, the Tide Star 4x Birds of Paradise 4x Adarkar Valkyrie 3x Wall of Denial
Artifacts (8) : 4x Demonmail Hauberk 4x Pentad Prism
Instant(12) : 4x Crosis Charm 4x Cyclonic Rift 4x Esper Charm
Sorceries (4) : 4x Tooth and Nail
Lands (20) : 4x Vivid Creek 4x Vivid Marsh 4x Vivid Crag 4x Vivid Meadow 3x Vivid Grove
My main gripe is the lands but the really good ones are all very expensive unfortunately, unless I'm missing some lands ~1.00$ or less that are better dual lands. The main reason I'm buying expensive cards (Tooth and Nail + Adarkar Valkyrie) as is is because I have ~70$ worth or cards to trade in after drafting Modern Masters. I might just put some basic ones in there depending on my primary colors, as I know the black ones and red ones are not very useful for me I guess.
Second thing is early game... I thought about putting something like Fiend Hunter, Dungeon Geist or even a Boros Charm or Lightning Helix, for either more defensive play or more offensive play, but I ended up putting the Wall of Denial as it's all around decent to stall. Any thoughts on that?
*EDIT : The combo is to equp the Demonmail to sac dragons, then revive them with Valk.... especially the black dragon that steals 5 life.

Is this casual or what? You need to clarify here as this is pretty expensive for a casual deck.
|
Yeah it's between friends. We are 10 or so... casual but some of the people play FNM and random stuff so they still have pretty good decks

At this point I'm glad I couldn't attend GP Las Vegas, it's going to be a nightmare with that many players. Supposedly 3000 registered players at this point 0.o

Well anyone want to meet up at GP vegas I have quite a large group going It's going to be amazing Modern Masters is already a really fun format.

After having undefeated FNM finishes a less than a month ago with my UWR control, it's gone nowhere but downhill since gameday, and it's starting to feel like I have to go UWR geist or use another deck. Keep getting rolled by different flavors of Bant, mainly, and even more standard matchups (G/R aggro, aristocrats) are becoming a pain in the ass. Bad luck or time to move on?
Also, tried izzet blitz at FNM last week, god it's a hard deck to play. Bought the budget version on MTGO last night and been trying to get used to it, burning vengeance is hot hot hot (lolpun), and I think that feeling of dread is indespensible.

Finkel said that UWR was a deck that always got "unlucky" aka it wasn't actually luck but an underlying problem. I'm inclined to agree, I think the deck is good but I've lost too many games that should be unloseable and the deck doesn't really get many/any free wins.
Dunno I like UWR but it's not powerful enough to put up with the swings imo.

I would just try to play more games of magic before spending that much on a deck.
The general issue with the deck (even for casual play) is that its gameplan is what people call "win more." If you have a valkyrie, a dragon and a demonmail in play, you can just bash someone for 13. You will pretty easily win without even using your creatures' cool abilities. When you actually play the deck, you're gonna find that you don't actually get to use all the cool interactions. Also, having all the lands come into play tapped is a serious drawback.
I would focus either on playing a valkyrie or a dragon based deck. Each one has plenty of interactions. Also, try limiting your deck to 2-3 colors, each color has ways to handle most situations.

Yeah, I totally feel that. I don't run restos, either, so I don't ever get that "free" 6 turn clock, and I have to use my deck's wincons, which half the time are just reckoners with slayer's stronghold or a turn 15 gisela.
