Just wanted to pop in and say i just won my first ever Constructed RtR Block match =D.
Beat a Boros Blitz Deck 2-1.
1st Game I won thanks to a Druid's Deliverance =D. He swung for fatal, popped this and he insta gg'ed
The 2nd game i lost cause he started the game with 2 red mana and 3 burning tree emissary 1 Firefist Striker and 1 legion loyalist in his hand. (on 2nd turn it was like 0.o") nothing beats that right? Idk how u can draw luckier than that except maybe getting ur 4th Emissary in there. (-another loss today in a match... guy played 4 boros reckoners by turn 7... he started with 2, drew the other 2 one after the other.... game just wanted me to lose that one)
3rd Game I managed to get a Advent of the Wurm on the board after he Mortar'ed a Loxodon Striker, he was down to 8 with 4 creatures ont he board, i had 2 creatures on the board (one of which being the wurm) He swung to take me down to 2, I popped Druid's Deliverance again, copied the Wurm token and he GG'd out.
Not a bragging thread at all. im really new to magic and was just super pumped to be 1/1 in constructed RtR block lol.
(i dont like playing standard... too many cards i know nothing about ive only been playing for a couple months with <50 matches, most of which were just for fun plays.)
idk I wish the format was more popular as there are a LOT of gimmicky combos outside of block. (Played a guy who used Possibility Storm + Curse of Exhaustion... I had him at 2 Health when he got this combo up and he just started Lol'ing nonstop... and i realized why after my next turn i realized i literally couldnt play, cast, or do anything besides drop a land ont he board. couldnt play creatures, spells, nothing... made me dislike standard >.>)

Still tuning UWR and Esper and figuring out which one I'm gonna play, debating if I'm going to SCG Dallas or if I'll just stay in Houston for the TCGplayer 1k this coming weekend.
Current UWR build: + Show Spoiler + 1 AEtherling 3 Augur of Bolas 3 Restoration Angel 3 Snapcaster Mage
4 Azorius Charm 2 Dissipate 1 Searing Spear 3 Sphinx's Revelation 2 Syncopate 3 Think Twice 3 Turn//Burn
2 Pillar of Flame 2 Supreme Verdict
2 Ral Zarek
4 Hallowed Fountain 4 Glacial Fortress 4 Steam Vents 4 Sulfur falls 4 Sacred Foundry 4 Clifftop Retreat 1 Desolate Lighthouse
SB: 3 Clone 2 Izzet Staticaster 2 Dispel 2 Renounce the Guilds 2 Rest In Peace 1 AEtherling 1 Jace, Memory Adept 1 Pillar of Flame 1 Supreme Verdict
It's been playing out pretty smoothly so far. Could see adjusting the mana base somewhere, maybe swapping some RW duals for basics... could also go to 25 lands and cut the loothouse. Ral Zarek could easily be either Jace or some split of removal spells, especially at 25 lands. If only I could play Far//Away in UWR...
Haven't messed with the Reckoner build in a while, might have to if Reanimator or Jund ends up being bad for this build.

Dont play Esper. The deck is terribly placed right now. If you do, run Syncopated over Dissipates and have a reliabe creature back up plan.

Hasnt Esper been consistently playing high in pretty much every tournament for the last few months? how does that make it terrible

Because Sire of Insanity exists and you can't beat that card.

Yes, almost like counter spells and instant speed removal doesn't exist. Does it beat current Esper decks? probably. But its not like people haven't adapted to change in the past, and will adapt in the future.

Heres the thing. Your match up against Junk is miserable. Always close but never winning. Your match up against Jund got harder. You now have to deal with Voice decks which isnt easy. UWR players stopped being retarded against you so now its in their favor. Bant makes better use of Aetherling which coincidentally makes what-use-to-be only annoying Thragtusk a serious tax on your resources.
Please construct a 75 where you can handle all the boogeyman cards efficiently AND consistently. Oh without jeopardizing your Augur hit rates which by the way is make or break.
Its not any one single deck its the field.
Edit: And we live in an age of rapidly shifting metas. A week is an eternity let alone a few months.

My problem with MTG currently:
Boros Blitz decks.
Its not that I cant beat one, but if they get a lucky draw/starting hand it seems like its not possible to beat.
I dont like the deck especially because i feel like it requires the least skill/thought to play, but its a serious threat just because of how/why its built this way.
Like if u start a game with 2 Burning Tree Emissaries (:or ffs 3 like my opponent last night) in ur hand, along with 2 mana and 2 other 1 mana creatures like Legion Loyalist..... ur dead by turn 3?
What skill does it take to draw the right cards at the right time?
IDK i im new to magic, but i feel like if my friend was brand new to magic and was going to play a tournament, I could hand him this deck and hed prob have a pretty good shot at winning most of his matches....
idk its just..this is all u see on MTGO lol so what hardcounters this? Ive beat it everytime i played a Bo3 vs it, but everytime he would just draw the nuts at least 1 game in which case its over by round 3.
what should u do vs this?

The thing about aggro decks is that they're inconsistent, but punish decks that stumble. If a control deck misses a land drop versus a decent draw from the aggro deck (which is like 70% of the time), they die. If a midrange deck doesn't have ramp or a low drop creature against one of those 70% draws, they die.
Luckily, there are a bunch of good sideboard cards against aggro decks (Precinct Captain in block, Rhox Faithmender, Centaur Healer, Trostani, Detention Sphere, Rolling Tremblor, etc.) and if THEY stumble, it becomes nearly impossible for them to win against a decent deck.

Magic isn't a particularly skilled game. Most of the skill in Magic is in deck-building or drafting. There isn't a ton to know about the actual mechanics (except putting things in the right place on the stack, performing actions on opponents turns, etc).
I've been playing for a month and I've beaten players that are judges and have been playing for decades just by using OP decks. So don't worry about losing to a Boros Blitz deck- there isn't actually any "skill" in winning with it. If you want skill, go draft- lots of mindgames.

hm maybe i should sideboard in Centaur healer vs it... or maybe even Heroe's Reunion hrm

The skill in naya blitz lies to knowing what hands to mulligan and how agressive you should mulligan. Still, beating blitz decks nowadays are kind easy, they often stumble on mana, but all you have to do is just keep playing answers.
RGs are better positioned right now.

Rakdos burn can be super fast too, and I'm working on an Izzet burn deck. More info later :D

Is this relative to the playing difficulty of other TCGs? Because depending on the archetypes and matchups, MTG games seem, to me, like they can get rather intense. To me, the harder a game is to "play perfectly", the more skilled it is, but I have little experience with other TCGs.
