This means what in coherent english? herpaderp is when you sprint double melee while the other guy is shooting. 4 dmr shots is slower then 2 melees and you get a free kill. thus, herp-derp i killed you. first comment, reach is really stupid ><

It's not Sprint though. @ Hurricane: I want to help test your map. I did a run through of it last night, and now I'm really excited to play an actual game there.

AA = autoaim? they reduced reticule bloom a lot which is really good. bah time to check mlg rules.. k so v1 had no sprint and v2 has: 110% player speed + sprint 75% melee 150% gravity. this is v1: 120% no sprint 100% melee 200%gravity so i guess double melee isn't gonna happen. That kills my hopes of competing next year T_T. oh well playlist should be fun

Has this happened to anyone else? Does the skillset from Halo 3's multiplayer not transfer well over to Reach? Or am I just failing at transitioning well? And does anyone know why? (The two games really don't seem terribly different.)

What confuses me the most is that I'd say I was pretty decent at Halo 3 (I got frustrated last night and booted H3 back up, and went +15 and +13 in the two games I played, lol. Arena is a team playlist that uses an FFA ranking system, so to get Onyx pretty much just means that you're the best player at being a selfish asshole.

(The two games really don't seem terribly different.) I suffered from this a little bit as well. Sometimes I think it's because I'm not as young as I used to be, there's a reason that most progamers are in there prime before their mid 20s. I think Reach is a harder game and takes a lot more of my concentration. The AAs can all be rage inducing as well, armour lock being the most retarded thing I have ever seen in the spirit of competitive play. Some of the maps have many great camping spots for the whole team to hold, and no DMR starts are hard to work with too. Once I started really focussing on what I was doing then it seemed some of my ability came back. I haven't had to really concentrate playing Halo since I booted up CE a while back, so I think that's a good sign of what kind of game Reach is.

I think the biggest problem with people not doing well when transitioning to Reach is they are either not transferring the proper skills, or never took the time to learn the core skills that you need for halo. Age has little to nothing to do with improving at a video game. As long as you take the time to actually think about what is going on an focus on training and improving, you will get better.

I think age has a lot to do with it. http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&safe=off&biw=1280&bih=612&q=cognitive decline age&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=88cb7920cd7f9302 I remember reading an interview with one of the coaches of a BW pro team saying that he wouldn't take any new practice partners/players into the team house if they were over 20 or something similar because they were too old to be able to become a progamer. All of the oldschool BW players had a decline in their performances as BW and themselves aged. I agree with your first two points though. The skill-set for vanilla Reach is very different from vanilla H3, which again is different from vanilla H2, which is different from MLG H2 etc. etc. I believe that MLG Reach has a very similar skill-set to MLG H2/3 though.

I'm saying that most people don't understand what they are doing wrong or what they need to focus on to improve. If you sit down and realize what parts of your game need improvement and actually take the time to train them you will be doing very well in Reach. The vast majority of those carry over to Reach, unlike what most people consider "skill" to be in Halo3. A few examples of core skills are Routes, Spawn Knowledge, and Positioning. Pretty much anything regarding specific maps or weapons is not a core skill and will not help you with reach, like leading shots and grenade bouncing. EDIT: I never see you online lemons =[
