The randomness of Armor Abilities seems to make it more of Rocks, Paper, Scissors (this works for games like SC2, but not shooters) than an FPS.

I think this is partially what annoys me about the game, and probably part of the reason I don't want to play. Plus I hate playing with my friends, but I see them often enough to have to deal with them bitching about me not playing with them when I'm online.

I agreed with all of your post apart from the bit that was about age, which was directly related to the original part of my post that you quoted. If you sit down and realize what parts of your game need improvement and actually take the time to train them you will be doing very well in Reach. The vast majority of those carry over to Reach, unlike what most people consider "skill" to be in Halo3. I agree with this. On November 15 2010 11:09 Hurricane wrote: A few examples of core skills are Routes, Spawn Knowledge, and Positioning. Pretty much anything regarding specific maps or weapons is not a core skill and will not help you with reach, like leading shots and grenade bouncing. These are all map dependent. I might need clarification on what they mean to you exactly. Almost anyone from the age of 12+ could learn these, for example I could tell anyone that P2 on midship is a good spot to be, and I could tell his team mates where they needed to be. But I'd say having an understanding of these things is a skill, and understanding how to use them to your advantage is a skill. Core skills in a console FPS are: A) hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, reaction times B) teamwork, communication, outsmarting your opponent, tactics (the reasoning behind moving to a certain spot or shooting at a certain player on your own impetus, I don't know if this is what you mean by positioning and routes) Skill set A is something that a player has naturally, but of course the skills can be honed. This is where I believe age is a detriment. Skill set B is something that can be taught to almost anyone. They can be broken down enough to be learned. To be a good player you need both skill sets. Some players might have all the skills required from A and B but still not be able to match them together at the speed that a game is played. When you talk about the skill sets required in Reach I think you're more biased towards skill set B, whereas I think A and B are equally important.

Spawn Knowledge is using the spawn system of the game/map to your advantage. Knowing how to position yourself to abuse the spawns of the opposing team, or to provide your team with a better spawn location. Positioning is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your position and how to exploit it. These are skills that you can train and once you fully understand each concept it becomes very easy to apply to each map which makes them a skill that transfers between games. Yes reaction time and aiming are important but those are obvious and everyone knows the better you can shoot someone the better you'll do. Too many people don't understand the three skills I just listed.

It's all about preference. The vast majority of pro's play on 3 or 4. I would not recommend going below 3 or above 7 for Reach. Also, the field of view for Reach is wider than for Halo 3 so if you had a sensitivity you liked in Halo 3, you should bump it up one in Reach (I used 5 in H3 and use 6 in Reach and it feels perfect).

Not sure I'm happy with it right now, but the general idea is there. I could also take this idea to an asymmetrical map, dunno yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

So I basically just took the pieces and put them where I want them =p To be honest, the components are not hard to make, they just take a long time. The hardest part would be getting the specific numbers for the size of things.

Believe it or not, I've been playing with 1 for all my life. So today I put it at 4. I'll probably just grind Gruntpocalypse so I can get better with the DMR. Would you be up for some MM or Octagon stuff? I'm scared that if I play actual people now that I'm going to be pulling off perfect nine shots. Lol
