Original Article found here: http://teamlegacy.net/topic/2830-5-reason-not-to-be-interested-playing-devils-advocate/ It seems to me he is just theorycrafting. Most of the things he says are only possibilities, that depend on assumptions from experiences with completely different MMO's. I'm not saying he is wrong per se (I don't have lot's of MMO experience) but he does assume a lot and he has the viewpoint of a competitive player. 1. I'm completely not qualified to talk about this topic (which system is better), but it seems to me that he has the viewpoint of someone who is used to a certain system and has a bit biased of a view due to that. I can say that for soloing the gw2 system seems more fun (but again little to no experience on my side) 2. It seems to me HE doesn't like it. Personally I think the chaos he talks about will be lot's of fun, because you can play casual (if you don't like that I agree you probably won't like WvW) If you die, you don't feel bad because it doesn't matter and if you kill someone you feel good. You can't ruin the experience for better players than you etc etc. Also it's optional and there is normal pvp for competitive players as well. 3. I agree, but in most games pro's step away from RNG abilities, because they aren't reliable. So this problem might solve itself. Also, again for casual players, a bit of RNG adds to the fun (like critical hits) even dieing by a RNG event makes for more excitement as long as there's nothing on the line (and I believe there is barely a death penalty in PVE) 4. Only having 8 skills. I don't disagree with this one, but it all depends on the skills you get. He assumes it will be the same as WoW skills. But compare it to DOTA, you don't need 10 skills in DOTA, because that would be hard as hell. Also, I don't see weapon switching not being used, unless the balance is terrible enough to make every skill of the other weapon useless in a build, but we need to wait and see on that one. 5. Fun for casual but extremely hard to balance. I agree with his point here and I hope arenanet has a knack for balancing. Also, don't worry be happy! It will probably be good, with potential for great.

I sure hope they don't expect to just show off the WvW part and think all the high level community from the original will be satisfied. I'm sure they will at least talk about arena a bit. They'd have to. Arena is as much PvP as anything else and to just show WvW would be like you said, cutting off a part of the community.

It was what made guildwars. If we don't at least get a taste of its replacement it's seriously going to alienate the serious part of the pvp community.

Original Article found here: http://teamlegacy.net/topic/2830-5-reason-not-to-be-interested-playing-devils-advocate/ First of all, GW is not (and never was) WoW and that's why so many people liked it. It had different engine and mechanics and that was fine. I really don't get it how can someone prefer this: ![]() Over this: ![]() GW UI is far superior to WoW, thanks to the simplicity of it. Also, the ability to pick only 8 skills means that you need to be smart and possess considerable knowledge about the game when you want to be successful at later stages (picking skills that work well with each other and will work best for the role you're going to take). Weapon switching has always been a big factor in GW, especially in PvP where you usually had 2 sets, each with different damage type so you could bypass physical/elemental armour according to the situation. Why the fuck are people trying to compare everything to WoW and then bitch and whine when it's not the same. If you want WoW than go and play WoW by the gods.

I dont disagree with you that GW ui looks more clean and simple, but I would argue the claim that simplicity is better than complexity, especially in an MMO. I personally enjoyed the complexity of WoW and having 50+ skills ready to be used. As you can tell in wow, there is much more information displayed on that screen and while it might be not the best way to track all of it, it is useful and is part of the game. I was able to display as much or even more information on the screen before but in a much more elegant and minimal approach.

GW UI is far superior to WoW, thanks to the simplicity of it. I could create a WoW UI that has less stuff on the screen than a GW UI and still give me enough info during a raid. Your screenshot example is so biased it's not even funny. I quit WoW in December, I want competition, I really don't give a shit which one is better, but can we please stop with the fanboyism, it's insufferable and put's me off playing any of the new gen MMO's.

I've been playing MUDs for x-teen years. Now I want to play something where I can _see_ stuff happening displayed in graphics, not another game with row upon row of text and numbers (there was quite a lot of that in EVE too).

I don't claim to be a pro on the subject, but WoW cannot easily be compared to GW1 in mechanics. they are a very different beast, as GW2 will be.
