Yea, that's pretty much my take on it too - they're making the base game free to get people to try it, then slap out a pay-for expansion in a month, which people will have to buy if they want to play with their pals for more time. It's a sensible economic choice, and a nice PR move. While not super-hyped for an expansion, I'll be buying it and having fun with it as I've had with base GW2, i'm imagining. On-off love a month or two at a time, before a break.

I picked up GW2 a few days ago, level 55 Elementalist atm and I'm having a blast so far. Im not in a hurry to reach level cap and start doing endgame content, because Im really enjoying the world, the lore and just exploring every little corner in the game. Gotta hand it to Arenanet for making the only MMO I've played so far to be this interesting during leveling. So I'm wondering if anyone is still playing the game. Not looking for people to hold my hand and carry me etc, but perhaps I'll have questions every now and then if it takes me too long to figure some things out. Im on EU Desolation IGN: E Clip - eClip.3962 (not sure which of these two are needed)

PvP queues are very fast, 1-2 minutes max. PvE dungeons are fast as well, 5-6 groups looking for people at any time. So based on that, I'd say GW2 has a very healthy population, at least on my server anyways. I still havent participated in WvW, but I need level 60 for that, perhaps tonight when I resume leveling I'll get to see that too.

There seems to be quite a few people still playing it. https://newzoo.com/insights/rankings/top-20-core-pc-games/ It seems that more people play GW2 than GTA V or DotA2.

And of course nothing has been fixed since March regarding the fucking AoE spam. Guardian Trappers are abundant in the lower tiers along with boon corrupting necros. Both have insane AoE. This is overpowered as all hell in solo queue because retards will keep running mid and close, and you can't really communicate with them. A team made up of 2-3 trapper guards and 2 necros along with 1 say... druid or revenant is a complete clusterfuck. You don't even get the chance to control your own character. Just fear fear daze fear daze knockdown slow. But it seems warriors got some love and non-trapper and medi-trapper guardian builds have started to emerge. Ellies seem to have died off in the lower divisions, thank fuck. Bunker cancer got toned down by a long shot. As for PvE... well there's a content drought ever since the release of HoTs. HoT maps were pretty difficult and annoying to play because you had to taxi to servers that actually organised their metas n shit otherwise there was no point in staying in them, even skill point challenges required trains of people while in the vanilla game they were mostly soloable with the exception of maybe 1-2 SPs in Orr. The money grind has moved from Silverwastes shovel trains to Auric Basin. Dunno why and how, haven't checked out the PvE changes they did in May or so. PvE meta is largely the same. Elementalists with staff and camping fire are kings of all-round DPS for everything - dungeons&raids, fractals, open world bosses and mesmers and necromancers scrape the bottom of the barrel performing niche roles like chrono well spam for boons for mesmers and bouncing conditions with pandemic for condi DPS for necros. WvW I never really was much into so no comment there. This hurts me like hell because I main a mesmer T.T unjustified nerfs to the only good thing we brought to group play - our wells and chrono elite spec. While DPS has never been fixed for dungeons. We wind up the longest, and do the least DPS in short bursts. but HoT feels very obligatory if you want to keep playing the game. PvP the elite spec is a straight up power creep necessary to compete, and PvE AB is where you make the big bucks it seems. Since March I see a lot less activity in LA and PvP lobby, but on the maps I'd recon there are enough people to play with. Strongly recommend you seek out a guild for yourself if you want to play this MMO. It's casual, solo-doable for the most part, but the community is pretty good and mature for an MMO and cooperating with others comes naturally while playing. I'm on EU Desolation FYI.

Im not troubling myself with the issues you mentioned because they wont affect me as much as a new player. I dont expect the game to have enough content to keep me playing non stop for the next 3-4 years, no mmo can do that. Ups and downs are expected and thats ok for me. I still play Tera and I was looking for another mmo to hop into when Tera bores me, and having tried all mmos on the market, GW2 is by far the best second option. Yes there's WoW, but that game puts me to sleep with its incredibly boring combat. Cool, you're on Desolation too. Could you add me? Like I said before, Im not looking for someone to hold my hand etc, I hate to be the guy who always gets carried, but perhaps I'll have some questions from time to time and it would be nice to have someone who can help out. Cheers.

There are PvP reward tracks and I completed several of them, but Im not sure I should prioritize one over another or should I just go with what comes next and dont worry about it too much.

Guess I should start aiming for Ascended gear and map completion, and I planned to, but I did a few unranked PvP matches and that was incredibly fun, so Im doing PvP mostly now, experimenting with builds etc. Kind of leaning towards a mix of dps/utility with dager/scepter and focus. I also tried WvW, but I got bored of it very quickly and quite frankly I didnt understand what was the objective, so I just followed along. Just running around destroying gates and killing bosses to claim those towers with very little actual PvPing ... wasnt that impressed tbh. Grats on 80! I'll add you to my friends list once I get a chance to log in, however I've been limited with my gaming time for the past week or so ![]() You should focus on getting fully decked out in exotics first. I do believe that the priority is still in favor of berserker's stats (power/precision/ferocity) with maybe some mix n match of assassin's. But I'm not completely sure, you should ask some elementalists in Lion's Arch /map chat or ask around on forums (reddit or guildwars2.com). It's much more important to have fully exotics (every slot) than have an ascended piece in 1 slot, but nothing in another. Don't put the carriage before the horse. Ascended gear is a fucking mountain to climb. I shit you not. Do not go into gearing yourself with ascended items thinking it will be a breeze. + Show Spoiler [Ascended crafting RANT] + Stat-wise, the best power up %ratio from exotics to ascended will be changing your main-hand weapon. First, the sure-fire way of getting an ascended weapon is by crafting it. You'll need to get grandmaster weaponsmith or grandmaster artificier. bookmark this site now: http://gw2crafts.net/ This will show you the realistic costs of crafting from 1-400 and then 400-500 for each profession. Notice: 1-400 artificiering costs ~25gold (if you buy everything from the trading post). 400-500 will cost you 4x that (around 100g). That is JUST to get the profession up. The cost of an ascended staff is around 100g effectively, not to mention time-gated ingredients which you can only make 1 per day (around 21ish days of crafting them) And don't even get me started on armor pieces. I still have mental scars for light ascended gear and I talk to a shrink about it. And I made all 3 sets (light/medium/heavy) With that said, you could do some world-events and get a lucky drop. Tequatl for example drops a chest with an ascended weapon (don't remember if it's predetermined or you actually get to pick which you want). If you buy Heart of Thorns you can complete a certain profession's quest and at the end of the chain quest get an ascended weapon (elementalists get warhorn for example, thieves get a staff) Another thing you can do is some achievements. In Silverwastes if you do enough meta events, you can get a single piece of ascended armor gear that you want. If you find all unique exotics or buy them from the TP and unlock their skins, you'll get a chest that lets you choose an ascended weapon of your choice. For PvP reward tracks you want to pick the ones that give you unique armor skins at the end, just because they're unique and Fashion Wars 2 is very much a thing. You should also play ranked not unranked. Even if you suck at it at first, don't worry about it.

If you don't like the stats (Cond, Precision, Toughness), then you can use https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Anthology_of_Heroes this recipe to change to the one of your liking. Takes quite a bit of luck though, the drop chance for it isn't really that high.
