I played some GW1 and I remember specifically that I found it REALLY cool, but I don't remember why I didn't play "for real". This thread and even the TL guild is getting me really hyped for GW2 and I think I'll join the action starting day 1. Can't wait!

T_T Not to mention my ever favorite SS Nuker.

Engi looks kinda cool...but I can never stand those steam-punk based classes in MMO's, always seems forced.

Many of the skills I've seen revealed control area. This fits with the whole self-healing with no dedicated healer type thing. Interesting to see how it will turn out. Engi looks kinda cool...but I can never stand those steam-punk based classes in MMO's, always seems forced. i have to agree. it doesnt really belong in a fantasy mmo imo. engineers exist in real life and their skills usually are bland and redundant. im hoping this class will be better than what i expect it will be.

Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers tinker with explosives, gadgets, elixirs, and all manner of deployable devices. They can take control of an area by placing turrets, support their allies with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs, and grenades. Like elementalists, engineers use a single weapon set at a time, but they complement this weapon set by equipping special utility and healing kits. These kits provide the engineer with special weapons and backpacks loaded with a full set of skills to replace their current weapon skills. Weapon Kits—These are utility skills that equip a new weapon in the engineer's hands when activated. For example, the flamethrower kit creates a short-range AOE weapon the engineer can use to overwhelm foes. The flamethrower has skills like Immolate to damage nearby enemies, Air Blast to defend from ranged attacks, and Backdraft to suck enemies into range of the weapon's powerful attacks Backpack Kits—When activated, these special utility kits equip a backpack that replaces the engineer's current weapon skills with a set of more specialized skills. For example, a bomb kit puts a backpack on engineers that allows them to deploy bombs with a variety of effects including smoke, concussion, and fire. Turrets—An engineer can deploy turrets: immobile allied devices that help defend and control an area. When a turret is deployed, the skill in that slot is replaced with its overcharged version. For example, an engineer can deploy a Thumper Turret to cause AOE damage, and then activate the overcharge version of that skill for a big thump attack that knocks down nearby enemies. An engineer can interact with deployed turrets, packing them up and moving them around. This removes the turret—and the option to overcharge it—triggering a short recharge before that turret can be deployed again. Only one of each type of turret can exist at a time. Tool Belt—An engineer tool belt is a set of special skills above the weapon skill bar. It enhances the effectiveness and functionality of the engineer's utility and heal skills. The tool belt can add a self-destruct skill to turrets or a detonation option to all mines. When paired with the grenade kit, the tool belt allows a grenade barrage; with the med kit, it adds a self-healing skill. Skills video: Weapons: Main Hand: Pistol Off Hand: Pistol, Shield Two-Handed: Rifle Backpack Kits: Tool Kit Grenade Kit Bomb Kit Mine Kit Med Kit Weapon Kits: Flamethrower Elixir Gun Turrets: Rifle Turret Thumper Turret Net Turret Flame Turret Healing Turret Screenshots: + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I've found my class. :D Looks like crap to me tbh oO Anyways, anyone else noticed how familiar those bugs (first NPCs to be killed in the video) sound?

The engineer brings to the table a lot of versatility that I think can only be matched by the elementalist. It looks to be the class of choice for intense situations where you need a tool to act quickly to your threat. I also see them being invaluable as partners as well, much like for example a rogue or hunter is to a BG group in warsong. Their tools and abilities offer a paticular edge that other classes don't have. Im still rolling a theif. But I have a feeling ill be fearing engineers the most.

I was mid-typing another post and I just started to browse halfway through for some reason. I'll explain. I think it looks...weird, in a way. As I said on another forum, I personally believe it all comes down to how powerful Turrets or Grenades are. Let me focus on some of the spells shown on the page in the videos. The first spell shown is a jump shot. You jump, do damage around you and land somewhere and do more damage there. I can see that being good to get away, but it is being shown as an offensive tool. However, when you look more in depth, it looks completely useless. When I think of that spell, I think of the like 15 different spells everyone else has to close in on someone almost instantly or to practically teleport away for almost every class so far. I'm not saying this is useless, but it seems more of a positioning tool than a fighting tool. It's a solid spell, more or less for this type of class. Then there is glue shot. Your cookie cutter immobilize, I need not go into this in depth. Then there is absorb. You have a shield. You absorb a spell and shoot it back. I know they are trying to make a class have multiple roles, but I just find this so counter intuitive. First you are a gun-toting techie and now you are a sword and shield guy playing a tank-support style for your teammates? When you juxtapose it with the other spells shown before and later, it makes no sense to even exist for them. Turret. As said before, how powerful this is makes or breaks this class. I have gripes with any class or character or hero that gives you something like a turret. It either completely breaks balance by being stupidly overpowered, or it is completely useless in the metagame of the class. That's how I feel about the turret. Then there is the grenades. Flash grenades, concussive grenades, ice grenades, fire grenades, poison grenade. I dont think I need to explain how I am concerned about how these turn out. It's not that it's necessarily "bad", it just doesn't look right.

I already play brink, and engineers who play like TF2 engineers ruin the game for everyone. Just like engineers in HoN going mines doing nothing but being dicks and mining chokepoints all game. Engineers, in videogames like in real life, can be fully included in venn diagrams that for the most part intersecate the diagram of people who happen to be dicks.

Three of the races could use a class like this: Charr (in the picture), Asuran, and Humans. Charr are becoming more industrialized now, which is why they are using them to display the class. And its a new and unique class and it would make perfect sense if it was the 2nd class to use rifles, since we only have one right now. Hah! I knew it. Definitely looking forward to this class, it was my favorite class from Warhammer Online, favorite class in TF2, favorite profession in WoW. And while I know those are completely unrelated to how the class will be in GW2 it just shows the kind of gameplay I enjoy easily translates to several different games under the same name. ![]()
