Interesting idea.. But yeah... I don't know what to think of Engineers. Not exactly the 'gunner' class I had in mind.

Aion should have been released with all the updates that it currently has, it's a much better game now, but sadly I lost interest in it. About GW2 I seriously can't wait, I played GW from day one and am really pumped for GW2. Also beta was announced for the second half of 2011, I assume it's closed beta though?

That does sound like it could be the case, but it doesn't seem all that strange when you look at the lore changes: It's 200 years in the future, the Charr has turned into an structured industrial powerhouse, and there are now guns.

I don't think it's as big a difference as you're making it out to be. Warriors aren't based on magic either, and rangers and thieves make only secondary use of it (spirits and shadowstepping). We've known guns were in the game from the second profession reveal (warrior), and we'd already seen two professions get them before the engineer. The Shatterer video from ages ago had those turret things or whatever they were that you could use to help in the fight. And GW had explosives and big mechanical doors and stuff (I mean dwarves, not asura). Of course, engineers are making heavier use of technology than other professions. But I don't think it's as divorced from what we've seen as you're suggesting. You still might not like Anet's choice to include this much technology, but I think the engineer is just a little ways farther down a sliding scale from the other professions, rather than an entirely different sort of thing. Edit: And yeah, plus all the other lore stuff they've been revealing in books and interviews that made it clear that the Charr are the steampunk-ish masters of technology in Tyria.

This is the most that we know, I think: On May 17 2011 13:21 Regina Buenaobra wrote: Our release date remains "When it's done" and our current beta timing is still closed alpha/beta this year, with public beta and release to be determined based upon feedback from closed alpha/beta. And from the FAQ: When will there be a beta? We will be conducting small closed alpha and beta tests in 2011. The feedback from these tests will determine when we will do public beta tests and ship the game. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it. And from somewhere else that I don't want to track down, the alpha will be a friends and family thing. So I guess that counts as super-tight invites. I don't think they've revealed anything about how closed beta invites will work or how numerous they'll be. I also think they said somewhere that they weren't going to take the GW1 approach of months and months of public beta weekend events, but I don't want to go find that either, and I could be misremembering. At any rate, there's no guarantee of anything but small closed tests this year.

Thanks for the great support from TeamLiquid Staff and Community, here is an announcement: _______________________________________________________________________ As much as we'd like to recruit every TL member out there, beta has been roughly announced for the second half of this year, and we're nearing our cap of members. If you'd like to apply, and have the background to be accepted, please do so soon, before the doors are closed and we finalize the structure of the guild. There are hundreds of TL posters like yourself, from all backgrounds and experiences, from Top 50 guilds/players in WoW/GW1, to multi-LAN winning FPS competitors. If you have the competitive mentality and consider yourself a fast-learner, we want you. _______________________________________________________________________

This would be my first MMO in like 4 years that I'm genuinely interested in playing, and I dont want to go into it with a competitive mindset. I just want to go in to have fun and dick around in WvWvW
