I am fucking PUMPED for this game, nowadays. I haven't been pumped about a game like this in a long time.
I can't wait for GW2 to go gold. There's so much good ideas that have been implemented that it boggles my mind how anyone could not like this game. My only concern is, which isn't a concern for the TL guild I'd guess, how casuals will do. There seems to be a lot of strafing and stuff. I've raidleaded my fair share in WoW and I always had to appeal to our casual members as well, when it came to tactics. But since WoW is not as fast-paced as GW2 (from what I can tell from those few videos), I could manage and teach them how to do it.
With all the movement going on in GW2, I find myself wondering how casuals will actually be able to compete. I come from a rich background of FPS and RTS and MMORPGs, so I'm really excited for this game, though.
I'll definitely try to join up with the TL guild later, once everything is settled, because I can't tell how the gaming experience on a US server will be like. So I'd have to try out first hand, before committing right now off the bat.
How do you sign up for closed beta btw? Any leads?

I'm looking forward to seeing this game at PAX Prime in a couple months, plus I might be able to meet some of the devs!

GW2 is looking like the opener to the next generation of MMOs. I know a lot of games have been called that before, but this is the only one I'm expecting to actually live up to it. Maybe it will open a new standard for casual play as well.

I have been putting GW2 in the back of my mind for years now, or else my excitement might bubble over. You guys look like a dedicated and caring group, time to learn more about TeamLegacy. ^_^

A part of the event involves the Norn children of the man (who are hard to watch after as Norn children usually are) try to do a ritual to contact the Bear God to send them a playmate which involves spreading honey across the floor. Well, apparently their ritual worked too well and hundreds of bears descend upon the village.
That's it.
I'm sold.

Im looking forward to the Sylvari release. It will explode the popularity of this game.
For some reason elvish types = popular.

The whole lack of a subscription fee thing is pretty mind-boggling. How is that going to work? I guess they don't plan to provide dedicated customer support or any of that extra MMO junk.

Signed up on teamlegacy.net
Just tested, I have 104ms to an east coast server (NY). That's pretty good, I'd say. Should be flawlessly playable.

Matter of opinion. Im sure they do it also to keep paying for the upkeep of their servers.

They did it in GW1, which was a very successful game despite being in WoW's shadow. I see no reason they can't do it again =P. But no, their customer support is actually pretty decent. I never had a problem atleast, and they update fairly often.

And in a lot of cases, you have consistent content updates. GW had some, but they weren't nearly as frequent or as large as those of something like City of Heroes.

Player driven MMO's require a lot less upkeep than developer driven MMO's, reason being they don't have to release a new dungeon every month to keep the players entertained.
Also if its anything like GW1, they will release a lot of expansion packs and that will be their main source of sustained income from the game. Honestly I wouldn't mind a monthly fee on it providing they kept it as a PvP focused game.

Whether its player driven or developer driven, theyre still hosting the servers, and paying for enormous amounts of bandwidth. They are off-setting the cost by opening an in-game shop for this very reason.

One word:
Microtransactions.

The best part about their business model is that starving uni students like myself can pay ~$60 a year, and all the people with large amounts of disposable income can keep gw cheap with their 50 new $10 outfits/character slots/name or appearance changes.

Microtransactions are definitely an interesting twist on games these days. I think free to play has proven itself in large scale "traditional" (not instanced like GW1) style MMOs that used to be subscription based, so I'm pretty confident it's going to work out. I just hope server caps aren't a problem, but we'll see as release draws closer.
Of course, I would hope that cash shop items would be purely cosmetic as well (and I'll probably buy some, I'm sure..).
Thought it was really interesting a while back when they released that $20 mount in WoW, the internet raged about why it cost $20 when it was so cheap for Blizzard to make (usually fees/expansion packs are justified as a massive content add) but the justification is by having a high cost it has a high value. A strange mechanic that works in other parts of life as well...
Final thought- sorry this post is so disjointed. But I like the point that was made about player-driven games needing less content to be enjoyable, and I immediately thought of EVE online. I know it's subscription based but it's arguably "free" to play if you make enough isk in-game. And so much of that game is purely a construct of the players inside it. Heck, at this point a good amount of the in-game features were actually things players did on their own before anyway.
I think GW2 will be more themepark and less sandbox/player-driven as far as everyday content goes. But for my dollar, if the PVP / Realm v Realm is capable of creating those amazing moments week after week, then the game will be a huge success for me. I also think it's cool how mini-games are already something they're confirming. I know it's dumb but I think mini-games add a lot to MMOs, always loved the idea of throwing dice or dealing cards while waiting for a friend or whatever
