The way GW1 made money was because they released new expansions every few months. Iirc they didn't add the cash shop in until halfway through factions.
I'm fucking ridiculously excited for this game. With the way free games have been trending lately I honestly think this could be the next big thing in MMOs.
Not only that, but gw1 also had a fairly decent proscene for a time. Maybe it canbe the first mmo type game to really break in to an esport.

I think they will be adding the cash shop from day 1 in this one, but I could be wrong.
The big limitation for any mmo is the fact that players could not reach other to other players around the world to organize a larger event, due to server limitation/transfer limitation. If the system in GW2 works as promised you will freely (within reason) be able to transfer your character between realms. It will not be unlimited, but the option will be there.

Post deleted. Accident with editing main post.
It had something to do with along the lines of world pvp, but i see Pyrthas explained it pretty well.

I would very much like to apply for the guild, however the applications forum is locked to me. Does this mean that the guild is full?
|
It means you need either register or login.
|
Eh, decided I don't really want to guild hop so much starting out -- guess I'll apply.
|
I registered for the site and applied a long time, but I forgot the site location and couldn't find it again till now. Now, when I log in it says I can't access this forum and whatever button I click to navigate the site it just shows "#1000 You are not allowed to visit this forum." I can't even click the help button for help. Anyone know what's up/can help me out?

As a show of respect however, keep in mind that were looking for experience, mentality, and maturity.
If you lack experience for example, I.e. never competed in an online venue, let alone an MMO, please hold out on applying just yet (we might have other options for you casuals later). That is of course if you can provide a strong argument of why you'll be all of a sudden more focused in GW2 than you were in your past.
Call it as you will, but id like to think of this as the guild's way of giving it you straight without any hidden bullshit. The people doing the recruiting are all mmo/teamliquid/community vets that only want the best for our image. Please respect that and don't bother applying if your just applying to be "cool".

Seems a admin has to validate my account for me to be able to post.

Ill fix it right now.

I hope the last class is a really beefy one. Warrior is, well, it's the warrior. And Guardian just doesn't look fun. I'll have to fall back to Ranger if it isn't amazing.

I assume by beefy you mean "Tanky" which I'm fairly certain is the role the warrior will fulfill and maybe also the Guardian. I'm sure the last class is going to be an archmage type or some sort of glass cannon magical thing, like that. Supposedly its rumored to be the Mesmer. Just a guess though.

If they stick to their guns, even a class such as the elementalist will be able to fulfill the role of tank with the right loadout. That's what theyre aiming for however.

This sounds absolutely fantastic. I am confident I can fit into any Guilds no problem minus the hardcore time commitment part as university studies come first.
GW2 is something that provoked my interest. Looking forward to it.

SUcks that they didn't show GW2 at E3. Guess we have to wait a couple more months for any real substantial showing of it.

They outright said in PAX they beat a hard instance with 5 Elementalists. But it was extremely hard.

So are they going to be making their money through micro transactions? I'm really interested as to how much this will cost people to play.

Why don't people read.
$60 to buy it most likely
No Subscription fees
Micro Transactions for appearance-based items (IE: Make this item look like that one, etc.) and not for actual items.
Lots of expansion packs.

I'll have to fall back to Ranger if it isn't amazing. We know the last profession will wear light armor, because we know there will be three "scholar" professions and we've only seen two (ele and necro).
Edit: And yeah, most folks are guessing it'll be the mesmer. That's all but guaranteed by now, because we know the last profession will be one returning from GW1, and it still has to be a scholar profession. GW1 light armor professions: monk, mes, rit, necro, ele. Necro and ele are already in, and monk and rit have been subsumed by other professions.
Even setting the light armor professions aside, warriors and rangers are already in, sins are thieves, dervs aren't an option (because there aren't any scythes in GW2 yet), and paragons have been mostly subsumed by other professions, too. (Also, no spears in GW2 yet, I think, although they're less of a defining feature for paras than scythes are for devs.)
