Elite skills are quite expensive But I heard that it's also used for high-end gears crafting.

I haven't dived into the PvP yet seeming I figure I should feel comfortable knowing wtf I'm doing first of. Have had a prefference for 2handed staffs so far. Any specific tips?
Im level 28 at the moment and have used primarily just the staff. From looking around at various sites and videos you basically want to have Glyph of the Lesser Elemental when you are doing PvE so that it can tank and you don't have to kite so much. As I am sure you can tell most of the Attunements are AOE. I personally start in Earth Attunement first for the single target CC (5) and then place Eruption (2), switch attunement to fire and place lava font at the same place as eruption for a combo blast and make damage giving you a bleed and possible burn.
Air is good for more single targets or 2 targets. Also make sure you get arcane wave asap, I am not sure if you know about combo fields but you can give your self 7 stacks of might for a big boost in damage.
Basically the idea is to kite, kite, kite. When you get higher levels I hear that conjure Lighting hammer and Earth Elemental work really well. I havent tested it yet need another skill point Frost Bow isnt to bad but I wouldn't spend points on Flame Axe. I mostly try to get bleeds with eruption then dps down in Fire with my lesser Elemental.
Look at these sites for some good reads on Elementalists and Staff play
Level 63 elementalist here, and I would say that in higher level you will generally have to switch attunement more often than lower level. However, it also depends on your traits, weapons and utility skills too.
For example, I am running with a dagger/dagger build right now. Dagger/dagger has high damage burst output with the Fire touch skill (deals extra damage to burning foe) so I use arcane power as one of my utility. But if I stay on fire attunement for too long, I would have no control or support at all. So I needs to switch to water for chilling and earth for knock down couple with utilities that would help increase my survival like arcane shield. Also, dagger/dagger is quite vulnerable if conditions start to stack against it so a removing condition skill is also nice. So mainly, I play with fire and earth, with occasionally switch to water and rarely switch to air.
However, if I want to play staff, I might have to switch attunements more often than dagger because staff skills rely and compliment each others quite heavily. For example, fire skill 2 has high damage output but you need your foes to stand on it. So you pretty much needs to lay down chill field or immobilize enemies first from water or earth before switching to fire, etc etc.

if i pick skills can i change them later on if i dont like them?
For skills in itself, it doesn't matter if you make a mistake because sooner of later you'll get new points for free. As for masteries, you have to pay but it's affordable even for low levels.
So, something thats been confusing me a little: PvE leveling is completely irrelevant to spvp correct? So if I only really want to play sPvP then there would be no point in leveling my characters?
Right now I'm running a guardian focusing on meditations and a ranger w/ 4 spirits. The guardian is strong and can do decent damage while giving great support. I think i need to tweak my build a tiny bit but otherwise i'm enjoying it. Instant cast meditations that heal you are quite useful, but I think they need to buff the condition removal a tiny bit because I still die really easily to mass condition damage.
Spirit ranger seems borderline imba, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a nerf coming. The elite skill is insane, great heals and i'm pretty sure it also removes conditions from everyone. The other 3 spirits provide swiftness, protection, and some burn damage effect to everyone (myself included) close to 100% of the time I'm in combat.
As far as weapons go, I'm currently running sword/torch and scepter/focus (iirc) on the guardian and shortbow + axe/warhorn on the ranger. Anyone have any suggestions for other weapon combos? I'm contemplating switching to sword/warhorn as opposed to axe/warhorn on my ranger but I'm not certain.
Side note: Does anyone know the correct way to trait the thief venom build? I think i have it down but I'm not 100% sure.
What is the best/most reliable way to get weapons that are appropriate for my level? I'm level 56 and still run around with my level 45 greatsword because the area completion and personal story only gave me armor or stuff i couldn't use. My crafting character is stuck on level 45 gear since the crafting takes a ton of rare stuff (venom sacs, claws, etc.) that i don't have enough of and can't buy from the trading post since it's down for maintenance since forever.
So it has been out for some time, any first resumee how GW2 PvP matches against the (imo) godly GW1 PvP? It's hard to imagine it being able to be on even footing with its predecessor, especially since a dedicated healing Charakter is missing (I don't know how good the Guardian works, but as far as I know it's not like the Monk at all). I don't claim PvP in GW2 won't be fun! I mean "good" regarding competitiveness, in which GW1 really shined (in a good parallel universe no one is playing DotA but GW1, at least I hope so) with it's great classes and rolls withhin PvP. Basically making only melee chars the real damage dealers, monks not primarly healers, but dmg preventers and the rest support was a really good system.

In short: Not half as good as GW1 PvP but still better than in any other modern MMO.
Then again, comparing it to GW1 might raise the bar slightly too high. If GW1 had dedicated casters and streamed tournaments it could have been what LoL/DotA is now

After you do heart quests the vendor will sell you gear for karma. If you really feel you're behind on a particular item then the costs aren't too expensive and it will be very appropriate for your current level (presuming you're not down scaling for a particular zone etc).
Usually you can chose between cheaper blue items and better green ones.

A lot faster paced. Not as much emphasis on tactics and such as much as raw dps. Although i'm sure that'll change once people start to figure out how to stack effects and stuff correctly.
the maps are pretty decent, people actually want to HOLD their territory and the whole supply mechanic is pretty good. It seems to be too complicated for the average gamer, but i think there can be done a lot by guilds.
Its allready better than warhammer was, and that game was focused around world pvp.

too bad the queues are several hours.
I am starting to get like this too. I started WvW at level 15 and my last 14 levels have all been in WvW lol.
Jumping Puzzle in eternal battlegrounds I didnt even know.
This must be where all our players are at night lol. I love Anet puts stuff like this in the game.

Same here. I've gotten my past 20ish levels from WvWvW. The best part is if you go to one of the battlegrounds where you don't have anything you get bonus to exp magic find and something else. Great for leveling or gear farming. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to explore the actual world as a level 80 to get all the skill points.
