Yep.
People also need to realize that the exp boost is for grinding mobs, which if you know anything about Guild Wars 2 is the worst possible way to level up. Doing DEs, Heart Quests and just finding points to get 100% on map exploration is how you get experience in Guild Wars 2, which is already very easy to come by (level 80 isn't meant to be a hard level to reach). There's also no leveling curve like in normal MMOs so 79 to 80 doesn't take hours to get. It's just another level in this game.
Oh, also forgot daily achievements which give a ton of exp as well.
Yep... that small boost for grinding mobs which is 1000% slower than any other way to get exp will really make a huge difference!
You also get instant level 80 if you go to a PvP zone, which is the only place where your level matters. People love to bitch about anything, but ANet isn't letting you buy epic gear or anything such as that. It's too bad people love to demonize a game when they don't even know anything about it.
P.S : I can't wait for the 25th... I don't work that day, so happy. Although I work the following 5 days which will suck ass T_T, will only be able to play 2 hours per day when I work.
I ALSO forgot that your level gets capped by zones. So even if you're level 80, you will be de-leveled to the content level when you go back to content you skipped anyway! Another reason to not bother racing to 80.
*EDIT : If you missed it with the past 2 pages being filled with pointless arguments, stress test today 4pm-8pm pacific time! (5 hours from now). Woot!

Since the character you level with only really matters for pve and wvw, I want to pick a class good at these. My friend will play a warrior and off a guardian. So far I'm thinking thief, as they seem good at solo/duo pve and are good at wvw supply runs. Opinions? I'll plan on having probably an engineer and mesmer for spvp... maybe a necro as well.
|
I think mesmers will be a good bet for a while as it can be confusing dealing with all the illusions and clones. Especially in the first few weeks of the game when people will be getting used to playing against them.
I'm probably going thief as my first character. I played Ranger during BWE3 and they are a lot of fun too but since I unlocked all the ranger weapon skills already I'm going with something different at least for first character.
Elementalist and Engineer both seem pretty versatile in terms of skills because of all the switching they can do and for PvE both seem like a lot of fun.
To be honest the only classes I don't think look like much fun are Necros and Warriors (sucks because my GWAMM in GW1 is a warrior but it will probably be a minor character for me in GW2).
It changes often for me but I see it as this for how I will play the classes : 1- Norn Thief 2- Human Mesmer 3- Sylvari Ranger 4- Charr Warrior 5- Asuran Necromancer
6- Sylvari Elementalist 7- Human Guardian 8- Norn Engineer
Warrior/Necro are 4/5 because I want my first 5 characters to be one of each race and I don't like charr/asuran much so I put classes I don't think will be great for those races. I want to play engineer and guardian but overall like mesmer and thief more. Yes, I know I'm a huge nerd.

heads up for everyone, the stress test just started. Hopefully the servers arent as bad as yesterday.
edit: was able to log in right away

Had my first experience with GW2 today then, game ran without any hiccups for me, FPS around 30-40 with everything maxed, hoping thats going to go up a little.
Quite enjoyed the couple hours, although my Guardian seemed to do no damage in World PvP but thats with the lvl 3 mace+shield spells and items. I guess it's different once I pick up a Greatsword and some damage skills or something, definitely going with Guardian once the game launches anyway. However I couldn't figure out how to join smaller scale PvP.
Everyone having RP names shocked me a little though. Might have to go that route myself. : D
Seems like a solid buy to me, thought I wouldn't play another MMO again but feels like I don't need to commit to this which is awesome.

Just finished trying all the races tutorials and messing around in world PvP for about an hour and a half and this game really seems amazing. I just have no idea what I'm doing lol.
I'll probably end up rolling a Sylvari Ranger* for my first character but I'm so confused about how the World PvP and Servers and characters work.
Can we really only have 5 characters total or is that just a beta thing? Which server is this guild rolling on?
|
Can an HP laptop run this game without overheating? I was really thinking about getting it, but I doubt I can run it.

5 characters total by default, but I believe you can purchase additional character slots with gems, which you can get either with real money or in game currency. (Since you play EVE, imagine Gems = Plex)

Ooh ok. I've got no problem with that system then. I'm really excited for this game though now, before I actually tried it out tonight I was sort of looking forward to it but now that I've actually tried it out I'm crazy pumped; it looks really polished, the game engine just feels great, the environment is beautiful and I actually find the storylines interesting (for the most part).

I know its a stress test but.... DAT LAG. Its like I was given a candy which is nice, and whilst I was eating it I realized its only half sweet with the other half being a mixture of wasabi and tabasco sauce. ;_;

Also got insane lag. But was first time ever playing, so still found fun in it. And it's pretty hard to die a lot in the starter areas.
Really hoping the lag is far from this though for the full release.

Stress Test is exactly what the name implies, I'd be grateful to even be able to play for 20min (on a 4hour event) during this kind of test. The first beta I played months ago was better than this test they did tonight. Can't even begin to compare this to release.

I hope first beta you played was not BWE1, because that shit was unbelievably horrible when it first launched.

I played BWE3 and yesterday's stress test. I had a bit of lag yesterday (3 disconnects and some rubber-banding at one point). It's normal though... during the BWE3 I had 0 lag at all.

Are my specs good enough to run the game?
