Well they have testers atm, several hundred from what I gathered. To be fair I just assumed it was some type of F+F type thing. I guess I just made an ass out of myself for calling it anything other than internal testing.

At 17.30ish in this video they mention usability testers, as friends. Not really sure if it counts as an Alpha type thing though, as it seems they were using em as an early test for events.

wow it looks amazing, never played GW1 but i played wow and Aion so much but there is no chance for me to getting this cause i dont wanna play so much and be really into the some game again like before.
|
well i would assume by the time this game launches you would be tired of aion, and especially wow. I dont think theres much more those games can offer before many people find them stale.

Aion sure, WoW no. You don't gain suscribers by putting out shitty expansions, the encounters are still fun to experience from time to time...which ties into my next on-topic point...
I have been following this thread and various other threads on other websites and some of the videos makes me wonder about how the encounters will be. There's a Shatterer video for example that looks really epic visually, but looks fucking dumb mechanically. I honestly have high hopes for this game to turn out fresh and fun, but some of the videos make it look really dumbed-down PvE-wise.
PvP is a crapshoot in any MMO, so I don't follow that stuff before I actually get into it.

you never played gw judicator? the pvp system was pretty good and had many many options.

Then they released factions.

I might want to join I am not 100% sure I will be getting the game though. I used to play GW1 a LONG time ago in competitive guilds such as XoO (when it was good) and ScaR. If i get GW2 I'm in though

Yeah it was definitely better than EVE in the way that it was easier to spectate for a noob, and it wasn't time consuming to get equipment and exp since there only was 20 levels and gear was limited, your main focus was your ability combination, reaction speed and teamwork. I didn't play the expansions but the original GW had very good PvP, the main problem was just that it got a bit repetitive since there wasn't much else to do, but it seems pretty well solved in GW2 with the dynamic world and various possiblities. I'm actually very excited for this game, and I generally hate MMOs. The artistic elegance is also a big plus, the people doing all the artwork and design here are among the best of all game developers.

This guy is so right. PVP was *everything* in gw1 until factions came out. Someone knows their history
I still miss the old PVP in GW1. But it doesnt stop me from hopping on my assassin every once in awhile and running random 4vs4's.

I wanna get in to GvG in GW1, where the hell do I start? :X
|
Me and a couple of friends played GW1 first day we hopped on some premades and got far in some tournament thing and won a deed to a guild or something? none of us had any idea what to do with it and we soon quit playing
Can anyone to this day tell me whether we actually got far and if the thing we got was actually of any value whatsoever?

Would you tell this to someone who wanted to start playing BW?

Guild wars had the nice option of creating a pvp character off the bat, meaning if you get the game (its 20 for 3 games on steam), you can create a "pvp only" character, which starts off max level, but cannot leave the pvp arenas.
Its a nice fun way to get straight into the action if you will.

You got a sigil, which is the hall of heros prize. They used to be worth plenty, then they tripled the chest drop rate and they became worth peanuts.

No, I haven't. I just don't like passing judgment on that stuff until I get into it, as in really get into it. It doesn't matter who or what tells me. It could be the best PvP system there is and I wouldn't care until I do it myself.
Still nobody answered my question about PvE which is what will make me want to log on in the first place

Would you tell this to someone who wanted to start playing BW? Not as much, for GW everyone just stopped playing during the year after Anet's announcement of the removal of cash prices on monthly tournaments.
Later GvG got revolutionized down to its core thanks to PvErs complaining about mechanics, which led to unskilled bads taking 1 monthly tournament, following which Anet decided to just plain remove the turning point mechanic of GvG.
Also the fact that Anet was openly supporting their flagship guild by making patches to the game that would suit their style, giving them inside info on them and releasing them on one case even on the night before the tournament. Also they had their position restored in a monthly tournament where they had been eliminated in the preliminaries, and they then proceeded to win the MAT.
Idk how the metagame is right now, I think I opened obs a few months ago to see a ranged-physical metagame with the return of a very old-school midliners, pure dom mesmers and no physical support, with a few BS ele here and there, but seeing the few names that were left I can easily confirm that you'll only be playing terribads who have been playing for 5ish years and sucking horribly until everyone left.
