Beating Cynthia in particular would be pretty much impossible, since she spams Full Restores like nobody's business and has a team that wasn't assembled by a complete scrub (aka everyone else). I wouldn't be too worried about Cynthia. She starts with a Spirittomb which doesn't do too much damage (except Confusion Ray). Just have a high level Gyarados, use Dragon Dance 6 times, then completely sweep her team. In fact, Gyarados is crucial in this kind of games. You need pokemon that are reasonably bulky, has few weaknesses, and can sweep easily. Gyarados is only weak to Electric and Rock, which is excellent. It's also extremely common. The real challenge is the general randomness within the game - sometimes something can randomly do a critical hit... and your pokemon is dead. But you are right. Cynthia's team is no scrub. All her pokemon has perfect IVs. On July 24 2010 12:55 SaetZero wrote: I'm doing a similar challenge in FR myself. But I'm testing some other rules, while less confusing, might be just as difficult (possibly more so) + Show Spoiler [ my challenge] + 1- If your pokermans dies, release it. If you lose a battle, release all of them. 2- No buying ANY items from ANY shop for ANY REASON. 3- Battle mode set to SET, not SHIFT. 4- No running from any battles. Period. 5- Saving is only allowed as you shut down your system. (aka, Going for Moltres? You cannot save right before... you will have limited pokeballs and 1 chance at him,) I think this will get real interesting, because: -You can only FIND pokeballs. -You can only FIND status healing. -You cannot buy anything for Celadon Dept Store! ![]() -Elite four? Without stocking up on Items prior to running it? With no revives? Have fun with that. Good luck with your challenge! I think HG/SS will be interesting... because.... well.... have you thought about how your gonna be Red at the end? rofl. If you are not allowed to buy pokeballs, this will be extremely harsh. I estimate you can find about 20-25 pokeballs of various kinds throughout the game. This means you can catch about 25 pokemon at most (provided that every pokeball catches a pokemon without fail). This basically means that you will not be going for any rare and powerful species as those usually have very low catch-rate (in combination to low appearance rate) If we restrict ourselves to only pokeballs, and assuming bulbapedia's formula is correct (but it is not), then we should only try to catch pokemon with higher than 200 catch rate (and this is also assumed that you already have a complete apparatus of False Swipe, Hypnosis, etc. for catching pokemon. I am guessing with the exception of your starter and the Eevee (as well as other possible in-game trades), the following are reasonably common and reasonably easy to catch and have reasonable statistics/movepool: Pidgey Oddish (needs Leaf Stone) Magikarp Geodude (needs trading) Bellsprout (needs Leaf Stone) Goldeen Nidoran (both versions; needs a Moon Stone) Spheal Staryu (needs Water Stone) Poliwag (either needs trading + King Rock or Water Stone) Looking at these I am fairly sure you can beat the game with them. All that is needed is to survive the early game then grind yourself up until your levels are so high that you can crush everything easily with one move regardless of weaknesses. Once we choose a Fire starter, using this setup will give us a very good type coverage. At the end, I think there is no technicality in this challenge. It's mostly about luck - luck about your opponent's critical hits as well as confusion, paralyze, and other low-accuracy moves. If I recall correctly no trainer (except Battle Tower) uses 1HKO moves.

When I finished this, I did it again with a Growlithe named Charles V. Now I am doing with an Ursaring named Victoria. Maybe when I want a challenge I'll try it with a Butterfree.

However this... is insane. No items means lots of frustration and I'll fear losing a pokemon so much I'd go back to the pokecenter seven times for one rocket hideout. Not worth it. That's what adds to the excitement. Also if you feel bad releasing your pokemon, you can do what a lot of people do and just put them in a "Graveyard" box in your PC.

Water pulse is so fucking OP If anyone is starting this, I recommend not choosing charmander, cause if you don't get lucky catching a fighting pokemon, you might be screwed.

Miles, level 13 Totodile Rochelle, level 13 Geodude Derek, level 12 Buterfree Kaitlyn, level 10 Zubat Lucian, level 10 Ghastly Tamara, level 8 Sandshrew Not very far yet, about half way through Union Cave. This is really making the game a lot more exciting. I had quite a bit of trouble with sprout tower because Totodile and Geodude both got pwned by vine whip and my Buterfree was still a Metapod which could only harden. Normally I would just blow though sprout tower with a Pidgey. It wasn't even on my radar as somewhere that could give me problems.

1. If a pokemon faints, you must release it as soon as possible. 2. You can ONLY catch the first pokemon you encounter in a route/cave/town/area (You get the idea). If you defeat the first pokemon you see, tough shit, you get nothing from this area. 3. Obviously if you run out of pokemon, you must start again. 4. Potions, healing items of any kind infact, are DISALLOWED. 5. Can only use pokeballs. 6. SET mode for battles. Lost: Rattata to poison Charmander to Brock's onix (rock tomb T_T) Pidgey to poison (At this point I only had a kakuna left) Spearow to poison Spearow to poison I hate poison.... I might be implementing any of the following later: Capitalism - No pokecenter use. Mom's house/forced heals okay. Health Insurance Deductable - pay 250 every pokecenter use. In The Nude - No Item Use (E4 exception) Scavanger - can only use found items Bawlz - only pokeballs can be used Out of Ammo - Can only use 1 ball per pokemon No Grinding - Pokemon can't be trained over next gym leader's highest level dude. Hometown Hero - Use only Ash's pokemon from the series. Imposter - Assume the guise of a trainer and only use those pokemon. One Life To Live - release/box fainted pokemon...treat as dead. Rare Artifact - Can only use pokeballs given or found The Bandaids Won't Stick - No healing items allowed. Aspiring Gym Leader - Use only 1 type(fire, grass, etc) of pokemon (HM Slave allowed) 13th Amendment - No HM Slaves Defeatists and Cowards - Cannot flee Naturist - berries only healing items

So far this shit is surprisingly fun. My rules (modified a bit) Faint = dead battle style = set can only buy pokeballs, nothing else can use items picked up, but only outside of battle must catch the first pokemon in every area, and only that one no saving or dodging trainers (must battle every one in each area) nicknames! nicknaming is actually pretty hard lol.

For every wild pokemon you encounter (other than the one per area you choose to catch), you must flee. Aka, no training up on wild pokemon. I actually played with this rule through Emerald, albeit without the other Nuzlocke rules. Shit was retarded.

Started a new challenge with the following rules: 1. No recovering HP or status at pokecenters. Recovering PP is ok (impossible otherwise). That means all pokes have to be at full health with no status conditions before using pokemon center. 2. Can buy any item EXCEPT revives. Using revives you find is ok. 3. Must run from wild pokemon whenever possible. It's actually been pretty easy so far and pretty fun too. Maybe some more restrictions would be good.
