i like the balance now as you can relatively quickly ~20ish hours gear up to get your feet wet in t6+ and GR30-40 but to be competitive you'll have to gear much longer and optimize much, much further to reach the 60-70-80 (who knows where season will end up). I greatly dislike the parity between solo and group play and the focus on XP farming though. Paragon levels are boring and in the competitive world, mean just about everything for the first 80% of the season. People are already hitting 800+ and it's not even been a week. The XP power creep is just too much and needs to be revisited. It's not really that fun to focus on Plevels over playing the character you want, or finding cool items to try builds.

farming for gears just to see how high i can go in greater rifts doesnt seem fun to me. diablo 2 really got it right in this aspect. uber tristram was THE end game, but getting to it required you to grind like mad (which is what d3 players are doing now). also the incentive of actually completing uber tristram was you get the charms which are great in pvp once you are stacked. basically what im saying is there was a clear goal to grinding in d2 and it was much more rewarding. when d3 gets something similar ill buy it then

The endgame of d2 was a combination of pvp, baal runs for leveling up, MF runs/farming, socializing/hanging out with people, and trading. D3 is currently missing out on pvp and the social aspect.

do you know what end game means? uber tristram could be done by other classes, it only takes a quick youtube search for you to find that out. smiter dins were the noob friendly way of doing it. and thats what made uber tristram such a good end game content. it was extremely difficult yet extremely rewarding. completing (or even trying to attempt) uber tristram affected pvp, trading, socialising (bragging) etc which according to you is what good end game content means so not sure how the fk you dont see uber tristram as diablo 2's 'final level'

uber trist wasn't difficult it was stupid and terribly designed, 95% of builds couldn't do it because every monster was immune to everything. It had zero indication as to how well you've progressed in the game. Sorry I think you're an oddball with this.

There are real leaderboards in Diablo 3 that take real skill (as well as time, gear, and strategy) to climb. In Diablo 2 there were 2 buttons to push and 1 if you wanted to keep an aura up...it was one of the most disappointing sequels of all time for me simply due to its UI and lack of options and gameplay. Diablo 3 has allowed the community to shape the game (hello Greater Rifts), allowed characters to combine 6 skills rather than 2, gave the players the Auction House they wanted (RM auction house though, meh) and then took away the Auction House they realized was helping to ruin the game. Diablo 3 doesn't seem as ominous as Diablo for me, but it is definitely not just a prettier but also a better game than either of the prior installations. Even though the PvP arena ladder didn't come to be.
