ATM leg gems are 100%+ droprate from RG's. Haven't been able to test upgrades though because every time I get to a higher level rift the game becomes non responsive(doesn't disconnect even after 5 minutes, just appears to be one).
Pet crit chance one is hilariously strong. If you rerolled for CC, taking off crit chance from a a ring is a no brainer. Bane of the powerful is mediocre until you get a ton of levels into it. Once you get it up into the 50s+ range though, it's probably going to be sick, with 30% increased damage up constantly. The smite one hits pretty freaking hard. Moratorium you'd still need to upgrade I think. It's sort of a mini-unity, and protects you against burst, but the incoming damage can very easily still overwhelm you.
Depth diggers+simplicity gem is probably going to make the smiter barb and generator monks pretty good. Maybe krider DH as well.

"gem of damage after elite pack" is going to be the new SoJ. imagine it in a SoJ, plus 50% to elite packs. yummy.

if you guys launch the game from battle.net client do you have to log in to the game now? it used to log me in automatically until around yesterday

o op pet gem lol At some point that gem is going to get strong enough that you gear OUT of crit chance, and then stuff gets really, really out of control. Being able to roll for 750vit on helm in place of crit for example.

It's based on RNG whether or not a gem gets upgraded? Sounds rather silly.

i feel like if the gems are meant to be super powerful they should have a break chance or something when being upgraded. like give them a 100% chance of seeing the upgrade guy but have a downward scaling fail chance where if the upgrade fails the gem breaks

Yeah, no. That would only result in more keyboards in monitors. A chance to break after investing after investing potentially dozens of hours? How would you feel?

All these +% damage gems, how do they stack with all the other +damage things in the game?

Some of the gems are going to be insane once you upgrade them enough though. The mini conduit is almost 100% uptime, and you can get in excess of 3000% damage per second from that item. Pet one is going to double your current dps, while also allowing you to gear out of crit once you have the gem upgraded enough.

wow didnt realize they can upgrade. seems like something that dominate previous content again. hamster's new wheel

On July 11 2014 23:00 oneofthem wrote: wow didnt realize they can upgrade. seems like something that dominate previous content again. hamster's new wheel was thinking the same. they simply increased monsters hps and added new items that, over time, will close the damage vs hp gap. and upgrading 3 gems 50 times with a 40-60% chance per greater rift will add incentive for maybe 300 additional greater rifts per character. so after two or three months, almost everybody will have his 2 or 3 main chars fully upgraded anyway. the gems and their upgradability are a nice idea, but nothing that adds long-term replayability.
i also dont like that they chose jewelry as the slot for gem sockets. amus and rings were among the most interesting items since almost all classes or builds would have liked at least 5 of the available primaries on those slots anyway. now we have to think even harder which additional primary to sacrifice on rings and amus for the mandatory socket... meanwhile, items like pants are still completely dull. mainstat vita 2 sockets and either allres or armor... yawn.
at least they could have allowed the ramaldi...-whatever-thingy to add sockets to all slots that can have sockets, not just weapons...

All the Gems are very early in development stage, they will chance alot and I'm sure some too OP gems will be removed/replaced.

Asheara's set could potentially be godly if you get a ton of upgraded gems. A well geared follower has ~200000-300000 weapon damage, and in conjunction with a ton of onhit effects you can get absolutely disgusting damage out of a follower. Not going to be viable any time in the near future(you'd need 12 gems upgraded to massive levels), but maybe in a month or two, you'd see a quad smite quad mini conduit with
Put Gem of Efficacious Toxin onto scoundrel with the multishot + Show Spoiler + Poison all enemies for 1000% weapon damage over 10 seconds. Upgrading increases damage by 50%. Total of 3500% at Rank 50 Rank 50 bonus: All enemies you poision take 10% increased damage from all sources.
This gem on the other 2. + Show Spoiler +Critical hits cause the enemy to bleed for 500% weapon damage as Physical over 3 seconds. Upgrading increases damage by 50%. Total of 3000% at Rank 50 Rank 50 bonus: Gain Blood Frenzy, greating you 2 increases Attack Speed for each bleeding enemy within 20 yards.
They may not be the strongest, but they'll easily be doing 10m+dps each to everything(mini conduit), along with probably 20m dps from the other stuff.

are followers considered pets?

well, the player himself will get his overall damage buffed by something like 100-150% if he wears 3 fully upgraded gems. on shotgun crusaders, for example, you have an average dps of maybe 90 million... so thats something in the range of 200 million dps with all the gems. im not sure if another 30 or so million will make a big enough difference to justify using up that many gem upgrades and using that set...
