How is that a beta announcement? There is no date... -_-
|
Announced, but still no date. Have to wait 2 more days for conference call.
|
Yeah, still a big update (on their homepage, too) considering the D3 site has been somewhat dead for the past few months.

I was so excited about D3, but this makes me sick to my stomach. I don't want to buy that game anymore.
First it kills the game so bad: "Oh you need a better sword but don't wanna wait ! Give some more of your money to Blizzard !: I always thought that paying with real-money for in-game items was so wrong, what ever the game is. You might never use it and that's fine, but everyone knows that really hardcore players will spend a ridiculous amount of real money just to be on the edge.
And before some people tell me : "Oh its great, you'll be able to make money !" I didn't wan't to play D3 to stress about my wallet, thanks.
Oh my, you havent read anything about what they said, didn't you? Blizzard takes only a very small portion of the sellings on the AH, and its always a flat price. Which they believe will provide enough to cover their expenses for the system. aka, blizzard arent earning anything on this.
They have always said this is a PvE game. What difference does it make for you if someone else pays 2000 usd to buy themself an ingame advantage?
This is a brilliant plan by Blizzard. They just got rid of their problem with illegal gold / item farmers in one elegant swoop. Would you rather they ban everyone, and in the process ban some innocents like they are in WoW? Its much better that they themself control the process

Also, it seems they're planning on allowing players to sell items to other players for real currency too: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/events/diablo3-announcement/index.html#auction:auction-faq
I found that really surprising. Creating a market to eliminate scams was an obvious step for them, but allowing players to cash out for items sold to other players? That's new territory for Blizzard

Have you never played diablo 2? The item selling stuff has been going since forever , i remember when i was 12 ( now 20 ) i was selling duped stuff all the time. We played HC at a lan big lan with 100 + pc's and we would make up to 100euro a day me and a friend of mine doing that for months.. Also visit d2jsp and rethink your post, they are just implenting it in their game instead of doing it on 3rd party sites.

"Which regions will be able to participate in the beta test? All regions will be able to participate in the Diablo III beta test; however, to keep the process as efficient as possible, and ultimately to release the game as soon as possible, we plan to roll out the beta hardware in waves, starting with North America. This means that players outside of North America who are granted access to the beta test may experience some latency issues. Once the new hardware setup has been optimized, we plan to roll it out in additional regions. This should provide a solid connection experience for beta testers in those regions who are connecting to the new local hardware infrastructure. "
Seems like everyone not living in the US will have to wait a little longer.

You do realize that people could buy items in D2 to there hearts content to outclass someone that didnt. Blizzard is just turning that black market into a real market, which will drive down prices for items cause everyone will be using it also you wont get scammed anymore. Stop being such ignorant whiners, in a game were you can trade people are obviously are going to use real money. I am glad blizzard is doing this. Now the people that actually have jobs can compete with the 17-19 year old poopsockers.

@jnkw: But thats the point of auction house, he? You can buy for real money from real players, or sell for real money from real players. Blizzard takes money only as transaction and listing fee. Also, those items sold are gained normal way, somebody HAS to get them by grinding dungeons.

Wow this thread really blew up since the NDA ended lol

This.
All Blizzard is doing is making it safer for you guys to do something you were going to do anyway.

People got banned for buying items outside of the game, it was never legitimized by Blizzard.
I quit the game before buying items for real money was common, and I see very little point in playing the game as long as pay2win exists. I play games to get a sense of achievement, not to get paid, and you can't have both with the pay2win model.

I just hope there won't be too many item farmers ruining the economy. If I find something extremely rare, best-in-slot item or such, I expect to make some money off of it.

i am just disappointed not being able to play offline, as a professional who is only home twice a week, i would have loved to be able to play the campaign in my hotel room or as such. =[

Yes? What do you think an Auction House is? Again, this is NOT a microtransaction model as seen in Bloodline champions, LoL, TF2 etc. This is only players selling items to other players for real money, which you could already do in Diablo 2..but now its legal

If you're not going to read the thread, at least read the proposal before commenting. There is an entire class of 'achievement' players out there: they are called hardcore players. They will not be able to buy or use items bought in the real-money auction house. If your sense of achievement is somehow tied in to how other players play PvE (I don't really understand this, virtually every game in existence has cheat codes or walkthroughs which do the same thing as cash does here but whatever) and you want to compare yourself to others, compare yourself to other hardcore players.
Seems like everyone not living in the US will have to wait a little longer.
It doesn't say that at all. It just says that to start with, people outside the US will connect to the US servers, so there will be lag.

Yes. This I could see become a very big problem for what is generally a singleplayer game.. I suspect Blizzard might implement something aka SC2 where you login once, and then you can play a month offline before you have to authenticate again

Can we sell D3 beta keys with their auction system ?
