respec is for sissies...when d2 was at its peak you would just have tons of chars. We played always HC and when you ripped, you would get to lvl 60 in 3-4 hours again. That wasn even fast and we played 100% legit without MH or anything. Just need some people who could "play the game". D2 was fun because you would calculate the shit out of your new char to fit every new item on him with max life. Of course it was a struggle, but the hell rush and lvling was fun when you have a reason for doing it. Why would i rush through the acts now, when i can just respec my char? I cannot even understand who can have fun playing Softcore...this is just not right. You play the game with every char once....thats it. Why would you walk through the other acts again....makes no sense.
Some people dont want to play that game so intensive like maybe myself...but they shouldnt consider themselves enthusiasts.
That beeing said, im eager how blizzard will work out DIII. I think they can do it right, but there is much room for making it "wrong" or "not satisfying". And i have never played any alphas or anything of D3...so i dont want to judge them.

A compromise might be to have:
- Respec allowed in Softcore - Respect disallowed in Hardcore

That's great you're reserving judgement of the game until you know more - it's just a shame you don't extend that courtesy to anyone who does not want to play the game EXACTLY like you do.
|
Respec is fine, just have some limit on it, like 1 time respec...
|
I let everyone play like they want to - as long as i have the opportunity to play the game like i want to - too. The respec topic is just an example. But IF the game would be like what has become of WoW since the first addon until now (which destroyed the game for me) - then i would be a very sad panda because i hope it will be as enjoyable as Diablo II was. And i want to stir some people up to play HC rather than SC
[EDIT]PS: I want to have that face at the end again Link to pic

Many of you are making arguments for/against features assuming that the rest of the game mechanics in Diablo 3 will function exactly as they did in Diablo 2. The truth is that they won't. Obviously the core of the game is still a fast-paced click-fest item hunt, but many updates have been made.
The skill system has been entirely revamped with 7 active skills and skill rune modifiers. Blizzard has explicitly stated their intentions to blow up the number of VIABLE builds. With such a huge number of possibilities respecs become almost mandatory. Yea yea, we know you had a bunch of characters of the same class, but would you really like it if you had to multiply that number by 100, or 1000, to really explore the build possibilities for just a single class?
Going back to the core item hunt game mechanic, Blizzard has only said that they essentially want to "spice it up". Instead of running the same boss over and over and over, they only want to enforce a little variability in our search. I fail to see how that's a bad thing.
Keep in mind that not every new or updated feature has been revealed. We're still speculating on incomplete information but as was said before, this is a new game. It's not a reskined 3D Diablo 2, but something completely different. If you want more of the same, you're free to continue playing Diablo 2 and even get involved in the modding community.

It would be really cool if they made the item drop something in between normal D2 drops and countess. where certain bosses and mobs have a higher chance(but not guaranteed) to drop a certain class of items. say some tanky lookin dude has higher drop chances for armor.
as for respec i think its fine if they cost it appropriately.

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with these sentiments. This thread is starting to turn into "I play the game the right way. Anyone who doesn't play the game this way isn't a true fan." It is an absurd notion for a game that isn't even out yet, especially one with a lot yet to be revealed. At first I was disappointed with some of the decisions like respecs and autostats. I thought that they were killing the Diablo genre with this game. I got over my preconceived notions of what the game should be and am now looking forward to it. Some of the new mechanics like skill runes look pretty cool.

have they said how much respecs will cost?

All I have to add is that a Kill Counter would be awesome (I know someone else suggested it already) but think how cool it would be to look back at the first character you made 3-5 years ago and see that it has over 3,000,000 kills with over 500 Diablo kills or something crazy. It would also be cool if they eventually made a top 1000 list or something for the people who have the most overall kills and who have the most boss kills etc.
I dunno, just seems like something cool to explore.

Yeah come on. PK'ing in hardcore was really fun and made it exciting

Ahahah I've been PKed in HC so many time in the past. PKs were my most nightamre. I restarted playing D2c HC, since last month. PKs tried to kill my chars like 5 or 6 times, but now I'm so prepared that instantly alt+f4 when I see i'm getting hostiled.
Killing players become impossible when the players have good reflexes. You can only kill an opponent who is surprised and doesn't know how to react. PKs are an important part of the game imo. This is Diablo god dammit, your are supposed to experience hell.

Bear in mind that running a character to lvl 60 in a few hours was NOT the way the game was supposed to be played. It ended up being the norm anyway but this is 2011. Video games are expected to become better and better, leaving exploits like this is not the norm anymore.
Blizz will design the game to be fun and playable WITHOUT requiring people to run their chars. (I did it so I know what I'm talking about).
Since I'm not a student anymore, I don't have as much time as I used to, to play video games so the idea of having to re-roll my character every time I misclick a skill or realise that my build won't be optimized is depressing. That's why I pay a premium account on world of tanks, but that's another story.
Anyway, I think all the nay-sayers should calm down. It's blizzard, they never fucked up a game* and Diablo 3 is looking to be a spectacular experience, just take a breather and wait for the beta before you start declaring the game is doomed.
* IMO: WoW was a great game and I'm sure it still is. It ended up the way it did because they ran out of stories to tell in a game that never ends. It was doomed from the start but everyone who played it had a blast.
Starcraft 2: The only thing that dissapoints me about this game is the lack of custom maps like we saw in Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 1. The rest is fine.
Stop complaining, be happy.

D3 is gonna be EPICCCC
Who else plans on pulling an all nighter upon release?

Regardless of what info comes out about the game you all know your going to buy it and try it and until you do that no one knows if its going to be fun for you or not. Btw anyone know if blizz has at least given a timeframe when this will be out? Like mid 12' or end of 12' or something?

They have said that they intend to have a component of it be a gold sink. They've also said that it will be more of a per skill basis instead of full resets. Other then that they haven't said much, or if any of those plans have changed.

They said on twitter earlier this week they are still targetting the end of this year. Whether or not they make good on that is yet to be seen. Knowing Blizzard they won't, and it will be sometime early/mid next year.
