Suppose you somehow get an unrealistic amount of MR, say 300, this would equate to 75% magic damage reduction. Healing 5% of the reduced damage will be 75% * 5% = about 3,5%. The damage done to you will equate to 25% - 3.5% = 21.5% of the original spell damage. That's around 60 more magic resist, but don't forget we're already talking about 300 MR and the recipe itself costs 600 gold. For lower values it's even less benefit, if you have 100 MR, that 5% equates into getting 10 more MR, WHAT A DEAL!!!

)The magic Thornmail is OK I guess for carries who need MR without giving up too much killing power.

Runic Skin(Passive)- "Galio converts 60% of his total Magic Resistance into Ability Power." Bulwark- "Galio shields a friendly champion, reducing all damage suffered by that unit and converting a portion of the damage into health for himself." Idol Of Durand- "Galio assumes the form of a statue, taunting nearby enemies and storing concussive energy as they attack him. Galio then bursts from his statue shell, releasing the stored energy to damage surrounding foes." Resolute Smite- "Galio fires a concussive blast from his eyes, slowing and dealing damage to enemies caught near the impact point." Righteous Gust- "Galio claps his wings, unleashing a gust of concussive wind that damages enemies and leaves a directional draft in its wake that increases ally movement speed." Adding more Magic Pen items might help but those items would also need to increase our AP as well since tanks are getting MR and HP off the same items.

Stark's is 20 Cleaver is 12 x 5 and if you're gonna count Stark's, you also need to count abyssal scepter, which is another 20 for Magic Pen. and you really should also point out masteries if you're gonna point out Runes, which is 15% for Magic and flat 6 for Armor so like, it's really: Last Whisper 40% Bruta 15 Ghostblade 20 Stark's 20 SotD 30 Cleaver 12 x 5 = 60 Runes 18/12 Sunder 6 Sorc 20 Guise 20 Abyssal 20 Void 40% Runes 9/5/5 Archaic 15% so, yea, definitely still not balanced or anything, but it's not quite as bad as you made it out to be. I think the thing that they really really missed was how changing the order of penetration did very little to Armor Pen since most of the time Armor was either a bunch of flat pen or just saying fuck it and grabbing just LW, whereas it completely boned Archaic Knowledge, which was a staple Mastery for Casters.

1st, how does one build kayle to be the queen of destruction? I have tried some different builds, but havent run into anything that has given me enough success to think she was op. 2nd, As i near level 20, what runes should i get? i think I'd like one page for melee characters and another for ranged, but i just dont know what to get. or should i build them differently?

FotM Kayle rapeface build is doran's ring -> zerker greaves -> Guinsoo's Rageblade -> Nashor's Tooth -> triple elixir pump. Ghost/Cleanse, masteries and runes are really w/e you want, she's flexible enough that you can legit just use them to customize towards how you like playing. Melee vs. Ranged isn't much of a deal for runes, it's much more about 2 questions: 1) do my characters use mana? (if yes, get mana regen/level seals and glyphs, if no, get flat cooldown or magic resist glyphs and HP/level or Dodge seals.) 2) do I rely more on physical or magic damage in team fights? (if physical, get armor pen marks, if magical get magic pen marks) quints should probably be armor Pen if you play mostly physical damage carries, but flat health quints are the most versatile... no one is sad to get 97 health from quints. I went through a long period of only using flat HP quints, but I eventually got over it. That being said, they're still good and IMO are a really solid investment when you're just hitting tier 3 runes because they work for everyone and are very forgiving whereas Movespeed or Armor Pen Quints might make for trickier early game if you're still learning your characters etc.
