So I've finally figured out why people should focus fire Mordekaiser. And the answer is Poppy.
Here's the story of my games last night in duo queue with my friend:
Mordekaiser ults the carry (whom we "fed" a little bit early on - meaning both intentionally died to them once). Poppy ults the carry and they die (because that's what Poppy does). It's now 6v4.
Do you focus the AP Poppy who can hit for 1.2k every few seconds or let Morde get a quadra-kill every teamfight? The answer was it didnt matter you're team was dead either way.

Same thing in DotA and WoW, those games had/have HUGE playerbases but they never got huge as competitive games because the majority of the playerbase doesn't care about the scene because the game isn't regarded as a game you play competitive.
I think that can be changed, but as I mentioned in my edit, that's going to be directly dependant on "the middle zone" of player skill. Bear in mind that I feel LoL is a significantly better spectator game than DotA/HoN because it encourages action from the start - the lack of denying etc. leads to more fast contact and conflict, and so it's a lot more action-packed. You also rarely see one guy farming all game, leading to a lame 4v4 game that turns into one super carry 1v5ing. As such, I think LoL replays/obs would be more "viewable" for normal players (hence the popularity of CLG's stream) - this coming from someone who would not touch DotA replays because those games are long and comparatively boring. If enough middle-tier players feel the desire to be competitive, you'll generate enough of a competitive playerbase to make things interesting. It's a bit like Starcraft - really, only the top-end players will amount to anything, but enough people play it to win and get better that it naturally becomes highly competitive. That doesn't mean there's a lot of bad SC players and/or bad players who have no intent to get better. Just look at the bronze/silver/gold divisions of SC2... most of these players probably don't intend to get that good.

People play this game to win, people care about winning and doing well, they COMPETE. They are competitive. The game has competitive players. The game is played competitively

While true in nature it doesn't mean much. Yes people play this game to win but that doesn't mean they play it 8+ hours a day in the hopes of being in the next $87,000 tournament.
Being competitive (i.e. playing to win) and playing competitively (playing solely with the intention of being in tournaments with prize pools) are two very different things. LoL lacks the latter of the two.

Wait in q for 25 minutes to bash on some 1300 ELO premade is not my idea of fun and I gain nothing out of it. So my only option is to solo ranked where many games are decided by which team got the worse 1500 duo q. I just have 0 motivation to take this game seriously compared to when I play broodwar.
Arr, interesting >_> On the other hand the group I play with is filled with players who used to swear by solo Q but switched to team because we got tired of relying on luck etc. What drives us now is beating good teams filled with players we recognize, like the Aumz/TreeEsk/etc. team (wherein Smash did an epic 20,000 range Aegis for the looooooooooose) and also being amused by the random roflstomps of 13/14/15xx noobiez. But at the moment we are only 16/17xx as well and we see a lot of problems in our own play, so... dunno, I think we're not as dominant as like a team set up by you with other legit 17/18/19xx players :[ Interesting middle ground there eh.

As far as a spectator game, my brother who has never played a game of LoL in his life, stayed to watch LoL instead of coming with me and my gf to watch Flash vs Jaedong. (He has played some BW, but by some I mean, a few BGH...
there were a lot of people in the crowd new to LOL, and a lot of people there who had played, it was a decent success from a spectator stand point, Phreak does a decent job commentating and keeping people informed about what's going on, even from a newbie stand point...
I think LOL does have potential to be good from a observer stand point.. however, will enough people strive to be good.. I think it's possible with observer/replay modes, but if it takes too long to come out, we probably might lose any chance..
And there needs some kind of giant leap to happen, a weekly or monthly 3rd party tournament with a lot of entries and a big following.. for some decent prize... some kind of tournament run better than WCG... just something, there is a lot left to be desired if the game is to take off..
EDIT: Right now there is NO incentive for me and my duo partner to find 3 more people, grind ranked 5s, and learn how to be up at the top. I just don't feel the need to climb up the ladder.. There doesn't need to be a monthly 87,000 tournament like GSL, but there does need to be something. Also for me and my friend to get a team to be really good, we would need to have good teams to scrim, and put up with our badness for awhile.. your only as good as your practice partners . Replays/Observer mode not being available, and us not having some really good experienced player on our team, who has competed(but really there are like a handfull of these players in this game anyways), we would have to kind of wing it... so our growth as a team would be slow.
My Halo 3 team studied our replays, top team replays, worked on our strats etc, constantly... in a game that is even more team play oriented, not having that is a MAJOR weakness

NEW TO THE PATCH:
- Ashe's default skin has new character selection art - Ezreal has art for an explorer skin (with a mining hat) - Heimerdinger has new art for what looks like a mechanic skin (like auto-repair shop) - Twitch's Gangster skin, Ryze's Scholarly Skin, and Gangplank's Sailor skin all have load images - Surgeon Shen has none (fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu)

And apparently my previous cache of files had Swain's 3 splash files. Weird. You forgot the new GP pic + splash as well.

I think 3v3 LoL has a way higher chance to become the competitive bracket than 5v5. Getting 5 people with similar play times who are all good (you don't really have to be "good" to have play good LoL games) and actually get along well is almost impossible. Also 5v5 games take way too long and the first 10-15 minutes are incredibly boring to watch usually.

Guys so I had a dream I was Karthus.
At first I was throwing fireballs for some reason killing people left and right. And then I met some really sexy girl and she challenged me to a duel, and she turned out to be a guy with a mechanical suit that made him look like a female. It sucked. When I destroyed him with my Karthus fireballs his suit short-circuited and it exploded. He fell to the ground and ants started crawling everywhere. I was like what the FUCK? Right?

3v3 is a joke, you have to be pretty good to play top-tier LoL but most people are just really bad, and 5v5 games usually end in 30-40 which is still long compared to games like SC but is generally shorter than DotA/HoN.
