If you play with fast combat and movement your game length is reduced a lot. Then I guess it's just play style. By playing slower you'll make less mistakes if you carefully check everything each turn, but I'm a bit lazy :p To be honest for a science victory, most of your time should be spent in the first 150turns, after that it's a spam fest of end turn only stoping when your cities grow or micromanaging specialists and trades. If you are going for domination your game time like triples due to army micromanagement. Higher difficulty AI turns also take a bit longer (due to number of units and caravans).

I just completed TSG82, took me 3hours When you fail to build a wonder before someone else, all your work is vain and the construction abandonned. My normal game time is somewhere between 5 and 12 hours depending on the map size. And yes 5 hours is too long as I really only enjoy playing Civ in a single sitting.

(strategic view) playing a game like this setting, will take you days or even weeks ... shamelessly promoting galactic civilization 2.... before 3 comes out ![]() back to civ5 haven't played in months now... playing it almost took me a day.... what i said about taking it in an hour is me having defeated. always playing on normal game settings... with the exception of ai from emperor to diety sometimes....

Overall I have Civ V to be the best of the Civ series...edging out 4, better than 2...and light years better than 1 and 3. The AI is slightly better than in the prior civs as well, but I still feel like if you just stay alive you win. Or at least in my games that is the way it happens.

Alpha Centauri was one of my favorite on the genre until I realized how to moreless used psionic units to win any game on any difficulty. Overall the appeal Civ has even when it is at times inferior in certain gameplay aspects is that the history element is just so cool. Sins of a Solar Empire was a really good one as well.
