Yeah I meant liberty. I've been trying to mix liberty and tradition, because tradition finisher is awesome, but so is a free settler/quicker settler production.
Dear lord Deity is a bit insane, the Great Library went on turn 27. Like really? wtf.... I couldn't even get the pyramids, and usually the AI ignores that one (in my whole 2 games of experience...).
Thankfully I was paranoid about the AI's rapid expansion and barely managed to lay down my 2nd/3rd city right before the AI completely boxed me in...
My starting spot is really weird. There's a ton of jungle everywhere in my first 2 citiies. Which sort of seems OK if you're going for a science victory (eventually). But it literally takes like 14(?) turns to cut down the jungle and then improve a luxury. Normally I can sell my initial 1-2 luxuries for some gold, but it's taking so long to cut through the damn jungle that I was throwing down my cities and needed the happiness by the time I could sell them.
I also think the entire left side of the pangea map is cut off by a giant chain of mountains or something, because I can't find a way through and have only found 3 of the other 7 AI's....which isn't ideal. and I don't have a coastal city to get a boat...not sure what to do about that.

The AI gets increasing advantages beyond King level. At Deity those advantages are pretty ridiculous, particularly in the early game since their production, science, and growth requirements are much less than yours.

Jungle is good for secondary cities but avoid at all cost in your capital (or only let a few jungle tiles for the late game).
Also yeah you can't really get great library in Deity and usually most of the early wonders are fast gone. The Ai has a huge bonus in production and growth (science) and starts with a free settler and a few techs already researched.

I have played a lot of total war tho. I feel kinda uncomfortable going in blind, I usually prefer getting to know some of the basic mechanics of a game before I jump in. Is the any good guide or YouTube video which goes over the basics, what to do early game etc?
I'm not sure about a guide to explain the basics. There are some decent deity players making let's plays but if you have no idea what they are doing that won't really help you.
I suggest just starting a few games to at least know how the game works. You have a tutorial in game and a in-game help/manual.
The game is fairly intuitive and streamlined to be honest. It may seem daunting but you should pick things up as you play and if some stuff are really unclear you have this forum, the in game help and the wiki. It's really less opaque than a paradox game to be honest.

The easiest way to play and the learn the game is to focus on a few high food/population cities while beelining all of the important science techs. If you figure out how rapid tech works, most everything else falls into place.
EDIT: The other important thing to know is a good 75-100 turn opener that nets you a few cities and the national college.

Hmmm. I just got my universities ASAP to take advantage of the fact that I have so many jungle tiles. I'm really really uncertain whether I should place 2 specialists inside my universities ASAP or not. On the one hand if it gets me an extra GS that's like 10k beakers at the end of the game (or an earlier academy, both are good I reckon). On the other hand, I'd be working jungle tiles with 2 food/2 science, so I'm only gaining 1 science point per specialist and losing out on a lot of growth for a long time...
Hmmm. I think I'll wait until I have the rationalist +25% GS production and then stick them in? not sure.

It;s only turn 100(102?) so my cities are like 6-9 in size with my capital being like 13 or 14. I want them to grow as big as possible for science output (aiming for science victory).

Game 3 Deity science victory on turn 245! :D I've wanted to win a game on deity since civ3 like....10 years ago :p
time to start going for warmonger wins!
|
|
So my game started eating up all the memory on my new laptop that leads to totaly shut down, anyone else encountering this? Do I have some damaged memory piece the game is trying to access or what precipitated this random and negative development.
|
Have you tried to simply run some RAM check ?
Or do you mean you can't even start it up anymore ?
|
No I can start it, but after lets say 150-200 turns Ill get a 'you are out of memory!' and once I exit the game the computer itself crashes. Yes I guess Ill run a RAM check. What a weird problem to randomly appear.

Domination victory on Deity is basically science victory on Deity squared. Especially with BNW.

One goddamn turn left before I win my first game on King difficulty and someone else gets the science victory before I do.
Hnnnnghhhhh
The thing is, I could have done it much earlier, but I was trying for a cultural victory instead and wasn't building ship parts. When I realized that this was taking longer than I expected, I switched over to science, but was one turn too late.

Do people on TL partake in the GOTM on civfanatics ? (well its actually called TSG for training series).
It's usually a great way to ask questions and learn a lot of stuff on the game. Basically, one game is released by moderators every 15days. You then have a month to download it, complete the game, and submit your save on victory turn. A victory condition is imposed and sometimes they mix things up with map settings.
Rules are simple. Do not replay turns, play the game only once and try your best to have good finish turn times. Each game is divided in 3 thread. An announcement thread where you download the game, a Opening moves thread where you should go only after 100ish turns and post your thoughts and finally a post-game thread where you can share thoughts once the game is finished.
If you're interested, you can give a look to the current 2 games: Washington, Science V., Prince level: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=522768 Catherine, Diplo V., Renaissance start, Emperor level: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=523403

When you fail to build a wonder before someone else, all your work is vain and the construction abandonned.
