AND religion!. I don't think it lets u skip G&K though. there are some other cool features in G&K that's better than vanilla but 90% sure u need G&K to get BNW | ||

So all his towns are now my religion, including his capital/holy site. 15 turns later I get 4 prophets in my territory..... granted I screwed her over as well with religion but 4 was a bit much to handle without declaring war. took me quite some time to recover from her spammage. edit : I know of the option in piety and religion but 4 was way more than she should have been able to buy. (wasn't because of Hagia Sophia either, wasn't finished yet in the world) | ||

On July 24 2013 13:55 nanospartan wrote: Just tried it out with my more experienced friends, seems a bit slow for me, and i fell behind quickly, is there any quick guide to get the basics down? try the civfanatics website, they have a very active community and are very civilized – basically the TL.net of civ. check out the war academy section and the strategy forum. a few tips that improved my game very quickly: - try to recreate the same scenario as best as you can, and experiment until you are comfortable. civ5 has a "spawn bias" that means until you deactivate it certain civs will always start at locations complimenting them. arabia or morocco will start next to deserts, england next to water, brazil next to jungle and so on. that also means that most of the time you will be near to the same luxury resources. pick a civ and stick with it at first, learn to play out the strength of their unique units (UU) and abilities (UA). find a tech path that unlocks tile improvements and buildings that are necessary, while getting to your UU as quick as possible. choose social policies that compliment your play style. - limit yourself. a common mistake is to build to much of something: too many settlers/cities, too many workers, too many buildings, too many units (at the wrong time) and too many wonders. each city you build will drop your happiness while increasing the culture requirement for new social policies and decreasing your science output (at first, without libraries etc), workers, units and buildings cost maintenance, and that gold you loose every turn could be used to rush buy certain things, upgrade units or bribe city states. it's very easy to loose yourself in the game, and end up with perfect cities that are soon overrun by enemies, or having a large army of archers and spearmen into the renaissance with no gold to upgrade. balance the production of your cities. - science is the most important resource. more science means getting to important wonders, buildings, abilities and units quicker. a very common strategy is to tech to philosophy quickly and build a national college asap to boost your tech early. if one of your cities can't build something meaningful switch it's production to science until you unlock new important units/buildings/wonders. - try to make each city you own a specialist: for example, one city (most often your capital) will have the highest production, use this one to build important wonders. have a city at a strategically important location with baracks/armory to produce units. in BNW, have one city at the edge of your empire with buildings that improve your gold yield from trade routes, and send your caravans from there. - if a powerful UU requires a certain resource (camel archers need horses, or samurai need iron) have one or two settlers ready upon discovering the tech that reveals the resource so that you can quickly build a city to grab that resource if you don't have one within your borders. - ranged units are better than melee units. only build 2-3 melee units to capture cities and let your ranged units do they heavy work. until the renaissance era archers/composites/crossbows are also good enough to bring down a city, you don't need siege units until unlocking canons. | ||
